"Stayed last night and found it all a bit disorganised and chaotic. I emailed in advance to ask a couple of questions about hair dryer etc and nobody replied. We were travelling by train and arriving earlier than check in. My husband phoned to see if there was somewhere to leave our luggage. We was assured there was. Upon arrival we was told our room was ready and sent upstairs with a key. The room wasn't ready, but that's fine, we arrived early. We got up this morning to get our train and there was nobody around to leave the key with. The room was OK, pretty dated, but clean. The bathroom was a nightmare. The toilet didn't flush properly, the dial on the very slow shower was the opposite to what it said, so I got in a freezing shower. The staff were pleasant and the bar downstairs was lovely and had a nice warm atmosphere. Rooms: 3 Service: 1 Location: 2 Hotel highlights: Quiet"

Tarl the Manager does a great job keeping this place near top spot of pubs in the area. His banter with the punters keeps us coming back, and always a great selection of beers on draft. Bit of a trek up/down the hill to get there, but it's worth it, trust me. A pub lovers delight. Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5 Ver carta

We had dinner here on our first night of a long weekend in the Lakes. The steak pie was delicious, but the green beans could have been cooked a bit longer. My friend ordered a gluten-free burger, but it wasn't cooked all the way through; however, it was quickly replaced. The waitress was friendly and very attentive! Service: 5/5 Location: 5/5

Great Ambience, cheerful hard working staff great range of craft beer and good selection of other drinks . Decent menu choice and doesn’t cost the earth looking at the prices . Restaurant downstairs in venue was busy when we were there . Clean loos always a good sign if your planning to stay awhile. Looks like lots of locals favourite venue as it’s dog friendly too . Well worth a visit .

"This review is strictly on the afternoon tea experience only. The food was absolutely wonderful, the lady who served food and the male staff (presumed the owner) were both very kind and friendly. I felt that the afternoon tea was an absolute treat since there was nothing to fault with, that was only until it was ruined by the rude woman who was driving past in black 4x4 (presumed female host). After we finished the afternoon tea, I decided to let my dog out from our car to let him stretch his legs before we set off, the rude woman mentioned above asked me if I was looking for a public footpath so I answered no. She then started to lecture me about the ‘no dog policy’ in the property as well as pointing a direction to the public footpath I did not ask. She drove further towards the car park and parked there, got out of her, and started to tell me off in the most rude way possible again. I explained that we just had an afternoon tea here and we’re about to leave. She then turned around started to take stuff out of her boot mumbling loud “stupid..blah blah” in the angry tone, which by the way was clear for me to hear even though I was at least a few feet away from her. I was so bewildered and frustrated at how this perfectly lovely experience went down the hill like this si quickly. Hence I took two stars off even though I did enjoy the food here. Whoever that woman was, please make sure that they cannot behave that way to a guest."
