"From the moment we entered the restaurant/cafe, the service was disappointing. It was unclear whether we were supposed to seat ourselves or wait for a staff member to assist us. Once we did sit down, the staff member greeted us with a rude demeanor that made us feel quite uncomfortable. If I hadn't had my young daughter with me, who was eagerly looking forward to her hot chocolate, we would have left immediately! When we were finally asked if we were ready to order, we were informed that coffee wasn't available that day. The cake we ordered was heavy and clearly not freshly baked on the premises. When I went to pay the bill, I shared my concerns about the service I received, but the staff just looked at me rudely and said, "I'm sorry about that." It's truly unfortunate that a museum would have such rude and inconsiderate staff members. We will not be returning. Food: 1, Service: 1, Atmosphere: 1."

It’s great to admire the crystal and black jet jewelry, but it’s unfortunate that the restaurant is closed.

Superb surrounds equalled by the food. Fish chowder and scampi were excellent, generous portions and well-presented. Fascinating jet museum, well worth it. Ver carta

I booked a table here 6 months in advance. My booking for a saturday was cancelled with 2 days notice, leaving me scrambling to find somewhere else to eat on a busy saturday, with most of the other restaurants in Whitby already fully booked. If you book this place, have a backup restaurant in mind.

Great find! Amazing food (we shared a crab sandwich and whitebait) and friendly service. Made very welcome with our puppy Dexter. Even went to the effort of making sure he had water. Highly recommend cost the same with 2 drinks as it would have cost visiting the Abbey! Service: Dine in Price per person: £10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Sandwich

We Booked here for 2 evening meals on 19th and 20th July @19:00 hours months ago. After noticing on the Internet they were closing at 17:30 I made contact by phone. I received assurance I would be notified in time to book elsewhere if you were not providing evening meals. As I have not had any contact with you until today we will not be attending as we have made other arrangements! This is no way to run a business. Ver carta

Lovely free small museum with very helpful lady on duty. Lots of history and examples of jet jewellery. Cafe restaurant was nice , interesting to sit and watch their slide show with old photos of Whitby and folks. Waiting staff a bit non-interested but just having coffee and cake so OK. Reasonable value £14 for 3 hot drinks and a slice of carrot cake. Dog friendly and lovely decor made it a nice place to stop. Service: Dine in Meal type: Other Price per person: £1–10

I didn’t visit this place to dine, but rather to explore its history. This former Methodist Church, constructed in 1910, now serves as a museum dedicated to Jet stone. Inside, you can find displays of photographs and various pieces of jewelry crafted over the years. They also have jewelry for sale. Admission is free, making it an accessible stop. The building has been beautifully restored to reflect its original 1901 architecture, while still functioning as a restaurant and museum. It's definitely worth a visit to learn about Jet stones and appreciate a bit of historic architecture. Atmosphere: 4/5.
