"Been to the hospital work was covered let’s find somewhere for dinner!!! So owning a cab firm I get to hear loads about restaurants etc, we picked a lady up from The Woolpack last week, she was absolutely raving about it. So we figured we’d give it a go! Now I’m not quick on my toes, but we were welcomed as we stepped in and sat close to the door so didn’t have far to go. A lovely family atmosphere the locals all knew each other and the bar staff! Lovely big fish tank and a nice menu with a good choice to cover most needs and tastes. I was intrigued by black Rock steak……. Will be giving it a go next time having watched another diner going at it! In the mean time, I had Pork Belly, chips, coleslaw and corn. The good lady had beer battered cod chips and mushy peas. Her fish was so big it was trying to escape off the plate! As for the Pork belly when I’ve had it before it’s been nice but never very filling, so I had the whole not the half, lesson learnt, half would have been fine! Lol Topped off with Cheesey Garlic Ciabatta to share! Drinks for 2 and an amazing meal in a beautiful country pub! Perfect! If you’ve not been, do it!!!!"

Went with a big group of 8. Not as many options as I remember but fabulous service makes up for it specifically from Sheila duribg breakfast. Would definitely return.

I love this pub. Have been there quite frequently lately and have noticed it is becoming busier. Good pub grub … not cordon bleu… but good food and generous portions. Service is good. Clean all round.

I understand that it was a busy Sunday, but the service was extremely slow. The Yorkshire puddings were dry and tough, the broccoli was still partially frozen, and the meat was dry. There was a shortage of gravy and apple sauce, and the staff were not attentive at all. It's disappointing because this restaurant had been recommended to us. Ver carta

During our stay in a local campsite with our motorhome, the owner suggested we try out The Woolpack restaurant. We had an amazing dining experience, with delicious food that was also good value for the money. The staff were extremely friendly, and the landlady was particularly polite and made us feel very welcome. Despite our large 7.5m motorhome taking up more than one parking bay, the landlady was accommodating and allowed us to park there. We will definitely be returning for another meal, as our experience was so enjoyable.

I left a complimentary review for the food at this Pub in March, having recently returned I can only say the portion size and quality have declined and prices have gone up. They seem to be pursuing the idea of a Gastro pub and in doing so have lost their way. £16.95 for a Ploughmans that consisted of a couple of pieces of Ham and 3 x 5mm slices of cheese, plus some salad that was past its best, VERY poor value. Hunters Chicken which last time was great , now served on a small wood/slate platter that I consider unhygienic. Drinks are expensive at over £5 a pint. Great shame, they have gone from 5* to 2* and we wont be going back.!

My partner and I visited this pub in search of a place that offered more than just deep-fried food. The Woolpack definitely delivered. The mixed grill was large and featured high-quality meat. My husband was surprised by the portion size and struggled to finish it all. The only downside was that the steak was cooked closer to well-done, as we had not been asked for our preferred cooking level when we placed our order. I opted for the hot stone steak, which was tasty. However, a minor issue was that the entire steak was already cooking on the stone when it was served, rather than being brought to cook on the side as I am accustomed to. This resulted in the steak being well-done by the end of... Ver carta

Havent been since 2021 and definitely not going back as it has not got any better. Walked in and felt out of place, no warm welcome just locals staring at you. Had to find someone to say we had arrived after standing there for 5 minutes, no one else in the restaurant. Waitress was standing behind the bar talking. Finally got seated then waited an age for our drinks order to be taken, finally came back to ask what we wanted to eat. Food was ok nothing exciting only had a main course but waited an age for that too. Waitress came our clear our plates and that was the last we saw of her, she kept disappearing with her phone outside. At no point in the 35minutes we sat there after plates were cle...

"Having been to the Phoenix several times and I believe, this to be my second average review of the food and service, you 'd think they would have taken heed, but clearly not. Firstly, like most top end restaurants in London, they are reserving the right to charge for no shows £20 per head). But, what they are also doing, which is very unfair, is charging you for cancellations within 24 hours of the booking at £10 per head. If one or more of our friends had fallen ill over night it 's the flu season at the moment), they would have been were forced to go for an expensive average Sunday lunch, whilst spreading their germs to the other diners. It also poses the question, what would some do if you book a table less than 24 hours like we did) and then decide to cancel? The excuse that orders for food have already been placed doesn 't really hold water. The Sunday menu forces you to order a minimum of 2 courses at £34 per head. Some of the top London restaurants are charging less for far more opulent Sunday roasts e.g. the Jugged Hare at the Barbican). The Sunday lunch served was simply very average and not value for money. Finally, why are the desserts here, always consistently so bad? I ordered a baked cheesecake and got cream squirted on a piece of cake. When I asked what I had been served, I was told it was chef 's interpretation of a cheesecake. The menu clearly stated baked cheesecake. Not even in my wildest dreams can you interpret a baked cheesecake as a piece of cake with creamed squirted on it! This was promptly returned and replaced with a vile chocolate tart, with pastry so hard I couldn 't cut into it without the fear of smashing the plate it was served on. The chocolate was over salted and the chantilly cream served with it unsweetened. Save your money, go elsewhere."
