"I wouldn 't have bothered to write a review if I hadn 't read the rude replies from the owner Matthew to other reviews. We arrived as a party of 5 yesterday and waited to be seated as requested by the sign. A member of staff said there were no tables for 5 so we said we would happily split between 2 tables for 4. She said they couldn 't use up a table for 4 with only 2 people on it. 2 of us had to sit outside. During the course of our meal, we noticed several other tables only occupied by 2 people so were fed up about that. It took ages for the food to come and it was distinctly average with more onion than cheese on the toasties I had. The English breakfast was advertised as having 2 sausages, but it turned out to be one sausage cut in half lengthways! The message on the menu saying they would charge you £1.50 if you wanted to share a bowl of chips just added to the overall impression of a cafe trying to make as much money as they could out of you. When we paid, they seemed only capable of charging 2 separate bills for our group but even managed to mix those up with no offer to sort it out. In short, the food was expensive and average. The overall impression was that it is all about the money and not much customer focus. Go ahead with your response Matthew, I won 't be reading it."

Nice enough for a coffee. Wanted a scone so ordered with ‘fresh cream and jam’ but disappointingly received uht squirty cream which let it down somewhat. Pleasant enough place to sit in though.

Stopped for coffee sandwich here and very pleased I did. Coffee is first rate and the egg cress sandwich was too; the granary bread used was delicious and very fresh. Nice friendly service as well. Thoroughly recommended, thanks.

This is the very best cafe in Thirsk. Cakes are homemade and also offer gluten free range which is unusual. They also offer the best quiche you've ever had. Lovely service too! I picked up a birthday cake that I'd ordered from them it was amazing!

Approached the cafe and door way blocked by a ‘wait to be seated’ sign, fair do’s only one table being used inside and one outside, I caught the eye of the staff who were busy chatting and she looked away! Another looked over and continued nattering. Not sure what that was all about but took my custom next door!

I happened to be in lovely Thirsk this week and a little peckish so popped in here for a snack. I had their soup of the day which was Beer and Cheese. Not one I had tried before but so glad I did. It was absolutely delicious. Came with a lovely fresh roll and plenty of butter. Service was friendly and excellent. I would certainly call again.

Having visited this cafe before and had a good experience I wanted to take my daughter for lunch. She was visiting from Manchester and staying with me for a few days. We arrived at the cafe to find a couple just leaving a table. They signalled to us they were leaving so we took our seats passing a comment that was perfect timing. Just then (who I presumed was the owner) came over to us saying in a very rude manner’ let me clear the table first! ‘ We were shocked that she spoke to us in that way like we were a massive inconvenience. We then decided to take our business else where. I will never visit the cafe again because of the rudeness and unwelcome we were shown. My advice to them is get a...

"We arrived here for a 2 night stay for a wedding (Fri sat night). PROS: Lynsey the manageress she 100% makes it so fabulous. Lovely, welcoming, looked after us brilliantly. Due to some staff shortages, she was doing what seemed like 10 jobs at once! We ate on one of the nights food was delicious! Great service tasty food. Breakfast was also spot on set us up brilliantly for the day ahead on the Saturday! The Willow room which we stayed in was fab ideal size, lovely cosy too! The whole 2 night stay was extremely reasonably priced the place itself has a great feel about it like a big cosy house! CONS: If you like total darkness, take an eye mask for sleeping as the rooms can get really bright from the early hours. Also, depending on the room, it’s on quite a busy road so can be quite nosy it would be worth having earplugs if you like a quiet surrounding. Due to staffing, the bar doesn’t stay open that late, so be mindful of this, they will however put drinks in your room if you can’t make it back in time for the bar closing. Taxis there are no local taxis, so arranging transport to the wedding we were attending was a nightmare which we didn’t account for! Luckily after 6 different phone calls, we managed to get sorted. The only gripe I had was the confusion over the bill if you decide to charge things to your room, the bills aren’t itemised so it’s difficult to keep track of what has been charged. There was some confusion on checkout over what we should shouldn’t have been charged for, so definitely choose to pay for any extras outright to avoid any confusion or uncertainty before check out. Other than that, it was one of the nicest, most personal stays we’ve had out in a long long time. This was mainly down to the Manageress Lynsey who is fabulous at her job really does make it feel like home makes you feel super welcomed relaxed. Thank you lynsey for really making a stay a one to remember."
