"On Sunday, October 29th, 2017, my wife, two friends, and I went to The Red Lion at Longden Common in Shrewsbury. I had made a reservation for four people at 1:00 PM the previous week. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by Rachel, the landlady, who made us feel very welcome. We were seated at our table in the conservatory, which was almost full (a good sign of good food). Our drinks were quickly served, and a friendly server took our meal orders. I started with white bait as a starter, followed by lamb shank. My wife and friends had potato leek soup followed by roast beef. The white bait was served on a bed of salad and was delicious. The lamb shank was excellent, and I heard the roast beef was also very good. The vegetables were plentiful, and we were offered more gravy and vegetables during our meal. Despite being big eaters, my friend and I couldn't finish all the vegetables, but they were all cooked perfectly and tasty. After a short break, we had trifle for dessert, which was a special creation by Rachel and was amazing. I cannot describe it - you must try it yourself! The meal was so good that I asked to speak to the chef, something I've never done before. Two lovely ladies came out from the kitchen and introduced themselves. I thanked them for the delicious Sunday dinner, which truly was a gourmet experience. We can't wait to visit again soon. Well done to Rachel and her staff!"

"The restaurant features a beautiful ambiance, and the food was outstanding. The salmon starter was delicious and incredibly fresh. The healed and crab ravioli was a wonderfully flavorful and creative dish, while the Shropshire cheese board was delightful. The service was also commendable, making it a spot well worth visiting!"

"Went with friends to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we arrived and ordered some drinks and advised a young lady that we were booked in for 7.30and a table of four , she couldn’t find a booking and spoke with another lady behind the bar and she said that we could be fitted in. No apologies Our friends arrived and I went to the bar and ordered there there drinks , one of them was a pint of beer that was warm , not wanting to complain I returned to the bar and asked a young man for some ice he obliged. No offer to change but my friend was happy to use the ice . We ordered our food and this took some time to arrive and I actually noticed people who arrived after us getting there food first , but perhaps because they were a table of two . Food arrived and we were asked if we needed anything else and two of us asked for ketchup. I’ve got to say at this point the food was delicious and I’ve not any issues whatsoever with the food. So we were only giving x2 napkins and then a gentleman who we later found out to be the manager asked how was the food “all good thanks “ and we asked him for some more napkins he brought them over and one of the party asked for ketchup as it had still not arrived, his response was “ why didn’t you say that before as it would have save another journey “ not really the response we were expecting considering we had requested it previously., Then when we received the ketchup I’d eaten half of my meal thankfully I didn’t want any as we we received a tiny amount probably a teaspoon certainly not enough for two people. My friend went to get some more drinks and was ignored by the bar staff and when he was finally attended to the young lady was more interested in talking to her colleague while pouring the drinks. I felt quite embarrassed as I’d suggested going to the Nags head and our friends were disappointed with the service so we decided that we would speak to the manager and give them the opportunity to discuss our disappointments , we told him of our concerns and he apologised for his comments regarding the other journey to our table however one of the young ladies behind the bar decided to step in and her comment is the main reason for my complaint is “if your not happy don’t come back “ I have worked in retail and hospitality for over 40 years and I saddened by this situation and disappointed that I feel the need to complain about a local restaurant ."

"@stablesinn has been at the heart of the community since 1680 and is described as a pub that celebrates standing still, an oasis of calm in an ever changing and busy world and we couldn’t agree more! 5 5 Recommend Price Finding somewhere like this is one of the perks of being food obsessed. The menu suited the feel of the place and was dominated by traditional pub grub and warming homemade pies made using locally sourced ingredients. Pies all round and between us we tried them all. Steak and Shropshire blue Stilton had all the depth of flavour you would hope for in this hearty dish. Yes it could have taken more Stilton but who cares it was delish. Chicken leek and bacon pie was not for the faint hearted, perfect for those who love rich and creamy sauces. Finally the mixed mushroom and Gruyère pie, again heavy on the cream but great flavours, all topped with light, crisp puff pastry. Our meals were served with a choice of potatoes (we opted for chips to mop up the gravy) and fresh vegetables. This was all about the hearty traditional home cooking and we certainly felt warm inside like we’d been wrapped up in a cosy blanket. Bron and Nat have created home from home and we could have spent many more hours in front of that huge roaring fire with the pub dog. For the overall experience it has to be 5 5 we loved it from the minute we walked in to the minute we had to tear ourselves away. For us thestablesinn has everything you could hope for in a traditional country pub and for anyone staying over there are rooms or a shepherds hut complete with spectacular views of the countryside, great for visitors to the area. Definitely one to put on your list and let’s face it what could be better after a walk in the beautiful Shropshire Hills.
