"Use to go here when I was younger with my mum and gran after a shopping trip into bolton. So decided to go with my husband today while we where in town. I had a hot chocolate which was nice and a Russell’s club sandwich...and my husband had the full English. Mine arrived and it was all cold and the ‘chicken and bacon’ on the club sandwich was a cheap sandwich filler slapped onto some toast and served. It was really bland and some of the lettuce on my plate had turned brown. The grated carrot was full of water so there was a puddle left on my plate from that and the really cheap coleslaw they had put on. It really wasn’t very nice and for you would expect the chicken and bacon to be freshly grilled and not a cold cheap sandwich filler. My husbands ‘full’ English was really disappointment the sausages where really cheap and gristly and there wasn’t really much on the plate again the ingredients were really poor and cheap. Their prices are quite high for cheap food. The lady with the blond hair who served us was quite rude and in a rush to put them down and just told us cutlery is over there if you want sauce you’ll have to ask at the counter’ that was it really, they didn’t even say goodby as we left. It was quite a cold reception. I’m Disappointed as I had always gone when previously shopping but this place has gone really downhill and won’t go back as I know there are much better cafes in bolton. I wouldn’t waste your money and would go elsewhere."

"A special Event in a special Restaurant. My Wife and I visited the Holiday Inn near Bolton town centre for a special birthday treat in early June 2016. We had pre booked a table in the superb Hardies Restaurant and on arrival we were quickly shown to our table by the very efficient young lady who looked after us all evening She was very attentive without being obtrusive, Starters were chosen, ordered, and delivered within about 15 minutes. Kathleen’s Pate was a rather generous portion and she declared that it was at least as good as any she had tasted before. My choice was deep fried Goats cheese, this was very authentic and enjoyable. For Mains we finally settled on A Lamb shank for Kath which she said was Amazing, whilst I settled for the superb Cod in batter with chips and peas, a simple traditional dish but beautiful and rather large portion. Desserts took us quite a few minutes to decide on. Kath chose Hot apple pudding with a vanilla sauce. I decided on a fresh fruit salad with ice cream served on a large platter I counted nine different fruits all seasonal and extremely fresh. We both tasted each other’s desserts the apple pudding was also very nice. The waitress offered us cheese and biscuits but quite honestly by this time we were to put it bluntly, stuffed. The verdict was a truly excellent meal, time to retreat to the adjoining bar for a pleasant hours relaxation. To conclude we made the right choice to have our special event at Hardies and we will definitely visit again. Thanks to all concerned."

"Came to Bolton just to visit this restaurant and very glad we did. It is in the basement so not so easy to spot from outside but a hidden gem. My husband is disabled and struggles with stairs but the owner came up to the...road to help us down and gave us a table near to the door. Very considerate. We ate at around 6.30 so the restaurant was relatively quiet but still had a friendly atmosphere. Service was fast and efficient and the owner told us if there was something we wanted that wasn’t on the menu we could still ask for it. Maybe not an option on a busy Saturday evening but still a great gesture. My daughter had onion bajji to start which she loved and my son had crispy chicken strips which was equally received but my husband and I opted for the lamb chops, something we’ve never tried in an Indian restaurant before. Just WOW!!! Served sizzling in a ‘pan’ they had to be the tastiest thing I’ve ever had in an Indian restaurant ever. We’d go back just for a plateful of these! Best to eat with your fingers so a little messy but well worth it. The main meals chosen were rogan josh, tikka masala and two biriyani. Not huge portions but to be honest, we always leave food as there’s too much served so needless to say, four clean plates. We didn’t catch the name of the owner but he needs commending on his restaurant, his service and fantastic food. Well worth the 40 minute drive. (And lots of parking outside). Thank you Mayas Restaurant."
