"Just arrived back from a two night stay at The White Lion and couldn’t praise it high enough. Our first time staying here and from the moment we arrived the staff were all so friendly and helpful couldn’t do enough for you. Lovely young lady shown us to our room which was in the courtyard behind the pub (room 7 it was really lovely, decor was great, bed was so comfortable and bathroom was a great size plus everywhere was spotlessly clean. Free WI FI during your stay is a big plus, room refreshments were a great variety too. A brochure of Hebden Bridge was a nice touch in the room as well. The pub is in a great location central to the town. We jumped on the B3 Brontë bus minutes walk away from the pub to visit Haworth for the day too which was fab. I have to say the breakfast was the best full English breakfast I have ever had (and I’ve had a lot in my time compliments to the chef. The staff waiting on us on both mornings although on their own on each morning did an amazing job seeing to everyone’s needs I couldn’t fault them at all they were really friendly and helpful considering they were serving each table on their own they made sure each table was looked after properly so a big shout out to those girls. On our second night we had booked an evening meal and again food was outstanding! My Hubby had the Steak and Ale pie and I had the rump steak burger with a side of onion rings (by far the best I’ve tasted, batter was really tasty, crispy with a hint of salt perfect! all in all a lovely meal. Staff again was really friendly and helpful. I honestly couldn’t fault a thing our whole stay was just perfect and I will definitely be booking again and recommending to my family and friends. Thanks to everyone at the White Lion for making our stay in Hebden Bridge a memorable one!"

"I come to Sowerby Bridge quiet often and whenever I do I always visit this cafe for coffee and something to eat as I like the atmosphere. Their coffee isn’t too bad and the food is okay. I usually order a tuna panini but yesterday I wanted to try something different so I ordered nachos alongside my panini. The waitress did explain that it came with chili which I assumed was chili pepper or Jalepeanos. To my disappointment, I was severed a plate of nachos with BEEF ON TOP OF THE NACHOS. When the food arrived I asked what was on top of the nachos. One of the waitresses explained that it had “cheese and beans” but didn’t bother mentioning that there was BEEF on top of it. I didn’t question why they hadn’t informed me that nachos were served with beef whilst I was ordering, as I wanted to double check the menu before speaking to them in case I had misread the word beef and confused it for something else like... erm... chili (silly me.... . I went down after I had finished my panini and coffee and asked to look at the menu. I then asked the waitress why the menu didn’t state that the nachos came with beef. She replied “I explained that it came with chili”, to which I responded that I assumed chili was chili pepper or Jalepeanos. The woman looked at me dumbfounded and confused. I mean, how do you expect me to know that something is served with beef if your menu doesn’t specifically mention the word ‘BEEF’?! At this point another tall blonde waitress came over and interjected and rudely told me that the nachos came with “chili.. which means chili con carne... which most people understand is beef” and that ‘that there’s nothing they can do about it’. I’d like to add that the menu did not state ‘con carne’ anywhere and only stated the word ‘chili’. You can’t expect ALL customers to know that chili means beef. **** joke if you ask me. I explained that I did not know that chili actually meant beef and suggested that perhaps their menu should clearly state the ingredients so that their customers know what they’re ordering. This was a polite suggestion but the tall blond woman sarcastically replied “well, we’ll update it when we get new menus!” and ignored me. At this point I was irritated by the lack of manners and common courtesy displayed. In fact, I was shocked, horrified, mortified...I told the woman that I was a regular customer whenever I visited Sowerby Bridge and that on this occasion I was disappointed with the service. She responded by telling me that “if you were a regular customer you would know that chili means beef. All of our regular customers know that chili means beef”. How patronising. At this point there were a couple of customers waiting to be served but I wasn’t going to budge until I was provided with a refund, which I had asked for twice and had been refused. Initially I didn’t even want a refund. I simply went down to explain that the ingredients weren’t made clear, but her response was so rude and patronising. In the end she reluctantly gave me a refund. Had she dealt with this nicely, offered me a refund to begin with OR EVEN JUST AN APOLOGY OR AN ATTEMPT TO PUT THINGS RIGHT, I wouldn’t have left this review. But I had time on my hands today and was feeling petty so here we are.... bad manners, bad service and an overall a bad experience that I’ll be sure to tell others about...."

"We had dinner here on Friday night and it was really good. If Thai West and Thai Sakon are your 5/5 benchmarks, this is a comfortable 4/5. It’s a small cafe layout rather than a restaurant (wipe clean table tops, no alcohol license , with attentive service and pretty fast food arrival. We were the only ones there at 7:30pm and there are only four tables, so I recommend it to others who are hard of hearing like we are, because you won’t struggle to hear! Clean and comfortable, no gorgeous surroundings but the prices are low so my expectations were more than met. The food was great. Good quality chicken and duck meat, lovely king prawns. Light and crispy tempura batter and crisp fried bread in the starters these things that are easy to do badly were done very well. The Jasmine rice was absolutely delicious, sticky and fragrant, I could eat it all day and all night! We had a set meal for two people; £40 buys you a mixed starter and three mains of your choice with Jasmine rice and egg fried rice on the side. Mixed starters were tasty and fresh, a good range of food perfect if you want to sample a range of dishes. The Tom Yum (I know that’s not quite right but can’t remember the name soup was mildly spicy and *very* tasty. Other reviewers have commented that it’s made to Western tastes and I agree. The green curry was delicious with what I can tell is excellent quality coconut milk (makes all the difference! but definitely on the sweeter and milder end of the spectrum as opposed to the firecracker that I understand it would be in Thailand. I feel like they might benefit from offering a curry with a more traditional heat/sugar level as an option; that would be so great as a lot of us know and respect a traditionally spicy one. The Pad Thai is the dish people will judge you by, and it was fabulous. The beansprout:noodle ratio was dialled too far into beansprout territory in my opinion, but what do I know? I just love rice noodles : All in all it was a very pleasant experience and I look forward to getting a takeaway from here soon. When compared to the other Thai takeaway in Brighouse (chaiyo , there’s really no comparison. Thai Sawadhee is a thousand times better in terms of flavour and ingredient quality."
