"A really calm and peaceful restaurant with pretty decor and gorgeous food. The best part was the mains, especially the lamb curry that we had and the chicken jalfrezi. Decent portion sizes and great service. The only disadvantage would be the lack of non alcoholic drink options (mock tails would be lovely) and also for the music to be a bit quieter. I would certainly come here again."

"Dinner. Tapas fine dining evening. It's one of Ashbournes' premier restaurants. Located in Boylestone, a lovely little village just off the A50. On arrival, you are seated in the cosy bar area for a pre-dinner drink. A Sangria was the obvious choice. You are then shown through to the dining room. Barn, like with its exposed brick and high rafters, which is spacious and airy. Our table was facing the open kitchen where we could watch the chef and his team in action. As well as their seasonal tasting menus, they do some themed evenings. On our visit, it was the Tapas Menu. Snacks BBQ Picanto,feta/ Israeli cous cous. Manchogo Jambon Croquette Chorizo. Loligo squid Tompura,saffron aioli/ anchovy oil. Gambas Pil Pil House Focaccia,tomato/ anchovy Hand Dived Orkney Scallop,Squid Ink Paella Iberico Pork Chop,black olive Hasselback potato bravas Salad of fennel/ orange/ citrus. Poached Clementine,lemon sorbet. Pastel De Nata,almond ice cream Petit Pours Service is attentive but not intrusive. The food and ingredients are of the highest quality. For a relaxed informal evening with music in the background, you'll be hard pushed to find better."

"I fought to choose between the full English or American breakfast, as they both sound delicious. deprived of the American and was not disappointed. bacon tasted beautiful eggs, waffel and frozen yogurt to die. filz full for the rest of the day would highly recommend. now plan to return asap to try full English."

"On Holiday for a week so called here on a trip to Bakewell. Cafe is well presented , clean and the staff were all friendly and helpful . It took a long time approx 40 mins) for our food to arrive . Luckily we were not in a rush so it didn’t matter to us . It was quite busy in there and the food is obviously cooked fresh . I had the vege bean pot with halloumi cheese which was really tasty and my husband had the club sandwich . Prices are average I imagine sandwiches seemed a bit pricey . Lots of eating places in town Certainly worth a visit though."

"During our 50-mile ride around the Peaks, we came across this café by chance. It turned out to be a great find for us since it is a vegetarian café, perfect for our group of mostly Muslim friends who can only eat halal meat. The food was delicious and satisfying, just what we needed during our tour. The table service was excellent, provided by two friendly ladies who run the café. There was plenty of outdoor seating and space to park our 11 bikes. Overall, this café was a hidden gem along our route that we were grateful to discover."

"This hotel is not ‘dog friendly’ it is dog tolerant and I believe there is a difference. You cannot have any meals either in the dining room ok but not in the bar or lounge either accompanied by your faithful hound. I did not take kindly to the suggestion to leave my dog in the car having driven for many hours to get there. The hotel and rooms are comfortable but a small fridge would have been a good idea to have fresh milk with tea or in my case to store dog food. Considering the room rate I was surprised at the lack of amenities. There was no dog bowl for water or anything for Fido to sleep on. There are plenty of very good local options at half the price that welcome dogs. You can however book a days fishing direct with the hotel and although it wasn’t mentioned by reception, entrance to Haddon Hall is free if you stay there no dogs there either even in the grounds . No EV car charger but one at the pub next door. The staff were nice but I wouldn’t book again."

"came here with two friends while we were in a local AirBnB property. we loved it absolutely at the merchants yard a cordial greeting from the employees (the bar was already busy when we arrived at 15.00 clock. After we checked in, we were quickly shown to our table (in a corner of the Larg dining area from which we were glad) menu and asked if we wanted any drinks. what we ordered and the server came to take over our commands. all our selected courses were just delicious and we couldn't owe anything. my man and I had asked for various articles that should not be served on our tellers, and they have everything absolutely mocked up. we loved the season simply nice and fresh and buttery, al dente just like we l ike her and freshly cooked, they had not sitting around on a hot dish! everything was so delicious and perfect for each of us cooked! thanks for coming this was a great food!"

"spicy garlauchbrot is incredible (full green chili) that was perfect for us the gamberoni fritti made us a perfect starter, but the manzo cacciatore was certainly not made with filet steak. it is always a shame when the quality of the ingredients. are not as described that this court was one of them. we had both the main dish manzo cacciarore fillet steak pieces, although very nice was not fillet steak pieces. I mention this because this was our only problem that I am a metzger that is all my life long, I know how I say, though very nice, it should be sold as it is. the service staff was very good in a very lively restaurant. I mentioned my problems to our young server, but no answer from the administration wanted to cause no scene."

"Shared a lovely meal here with my friend. Hadn't been here for years we were not disappointed. Booked online had quick reply, staff friendly welcoming, very cosy pub atmosphere, everyone was having a good time, very nice that dogs are allowed in they were very well behaved. I had chicken curry with rice nan could of had chips, or half rice half chips, which was a nice choice) the curry was full of flavours not dry at all as some can be, rice was very fluffy light. my friend had sausage, veg giant Yorkie, choice of mash or chips, she had chips, it was a very large portion, we both enjoyed our meals. The menu was quite a wide choice for saying it's a small pub, we both had lemon meringue for pudding, it was lovely lemony in the middle, the meringue was soft not hard which was different as mine always go rock hard. The young girl who served us was marvellous, she was taking food orders, bringing food out serving the bar, that's multi tasking !! We have now booked a group Xmas meal in December which has realy good choice. Looking forward to our next visit. Thank you."

"Very nice meal special was roast beef in yorkshire pudding very generous portions of meat and vegetables. Veggies menu a bit limited and veggie pancake was just veg in cheese sauce with a pancake on top. Atmosphere was good it was busy...and tables quite close together in bar if you're concerned about social distancing. Neighbouring diners said kids menu would have been available for teens pleased to hear there's not a restriction on this kids all have different appetites and adult meals a bit overfacing sometimes for small eaters. Overall a great place to eat but be hungry!"

"I had a look before we arrived in Hathersage for a walking long weekend, the Mazzi had a Taxi Driver Currie that sounded just the ticket. We arrived a little early but it was no problem, our popadoms and sides were very nice. We had our mains after talking to our waiter who had a good knowledge of the dishes, spices and heat. We were not disappointed as our curries, vegetable sides and breads were of a very high standard. Overall a fantastic evening of food with a great staff would recommend this as a go to resteraunt."

"I had a meal here on Friday tea time with a girlfriend. I ordered scampi and chips and my friend ordered the meat pie. When the meal was delivered I couldn’t believe my eyes, the chips were black and burnt and the peas were like bullets. I complained to the young lad who was waiting the tables, he was very pleasant and said he would get us some fresh chips. Our plates were not taken away and when the fresh chips arrived I had eaten my scampi. I was so shocked that the chef sent these meals out with black burnt chips. When I went to pay, I told the landlord that I was very disappointed with the whole meal, he didn’t even offer any reduction in the bill. I will not be going there again."

"Quaint pub restaurant with good service and great food. I booked this for my partners Birthday on Friday. Good range of beers, wines and other drinks, Loved the home made food, great to see something other than burgers. I have recently been diagnosed with a dairy intolerance so the chickpea curry was absolutely delicious with rice and popadums. My partner had the steak and unicorn pie, the unicorn being an ale they sell …we laughed with the friendly manager as I’d thought it might be horse meat! The pie was proper home made not processed and the steak was melt in the mouth , absolute quality and fresh veg too . Nice atmosphere and a quirky range of Toby jugs , must be hundreds of them and just fun looking at them especially the old logos. Friendly service and all in all pleased with our choice. Will visit again."

"The Goats Cheese Tart starter and Rack of Lamb main were both very good. The chips part of the Cod and Chips was good but the Cod certainly wasn’t. The batter was thin and soggy and the fish itself was wet and lacked flavour. The solitary waitress coped brilliantly but was very busy so it was not easy to attract her attention to complain. Had I done so I would presumably have been offered a replacement fish which would no doubt have been the same, or perhaps a different meal which would have meant a long wait judging by how long we had waited for our initial order and me eating on my own while my partner would have had to sit watching me, having long finished her meal. I therefore lumped my way through it, I was hungry after all, that's why we where there. When the waitress came to clear the plates I told her of my dissatisfaction with the fish and drew her attention to the pile of soggy batter and fish I had left on the plate. She said she would inform the chef. She brought the bill without comment so I asked her whether she had informed the Chef and asked what his response had been. She said he had said sorry. I said that if he was sorry why was there no adjustment to the bill? She said she would go back and ask him. She returned to inform me that he said that as I had eaten it I had to pay for it. What an attitude, what poor PR. Our first and last visit to Charlies. Note. I couldn't bring myself to tip the waitress under the circumstances which was unfortunate because she was working very hard and unsupported and it wasn't her fault. Perhaps Chef, or Charlie, you would have the decency to dip into your own pocket and give her the £7 she didn't get from me thanks to your poor attitude."

"We utilised the Fishpond a couple of times last week for a beer during our stay in Matlock Bath or should I say Southend not on Sea , firstly when we arrived on the Wednesday evening when it was fairly quiet but still the busiest of the pubs in town the Rose Cottage was completely dead and the Midland wasn’t even open , and then again on Saturday evening when , like the rest of Matlock Bath, it was completely mental until the day tripping tourist families and bikers headed home leaving it to the hardcore locals and us tourists staying in town. Nice two room pub with a main bar and snug room to the side didn’t venture up to the music room but when the sun is out the best spot is the outside terrace to the front from where you can watch all the action. Six handpumps with three ales and three ciders for my visits and the ales were Abbeydale Splendour, Whim Ales Hartington Bitter and Shiny Brewery MIA hazy pale ale. Tried the first two and they were both well kept. We were very glad that this pub was here as it circumvented the need for us to take the bus or train into Matlock for an evening beer."

"Visited on the 30th with a pre booked table for 12 . Staff really friendly and welcoming when phoning to book table and pre order food. On arrival the pub was really really busy however we were looked after and shown quickly to our table . We had to change some of our pre booked orders but this was not a problem and all the food arrived together and was piping hot . Everybody really enjoyed their meals and the service continued to be great throughout the meal . Main reason for commenting is just to say thank you to the staff, we do a family Christmas walk every year with people coming from long distances, so ,as organiser the pressure is on to find a welcoming pub . So massive thank you , you’ve worked really hard but please know it’s appreciated, hope you have some time to relax after Christmas period and we look forward to seeing you in 2024 . Pete"

"The building and its interior is stunning and exceptionally clean! Very warm and friendly welcome by the staff! So.....the food itself....wow....just wow....it is the most delicious and tastiest roast dinner we have ever had (and we've been to a lot of good places with nice roast dinners) the dessert menu was also mouth watering to read but we were unfortunately too full up to have one! If you want a beautiful friendly country pub with delicious home cooked food then you will not be disappointed! With regards to reopening, I can confirm that they have everything in place to keep everyone including the bar staff safe, there are protective screens up on the bar, a one way system in place, no hanging around at the bar and everything is kept very clean and sanitised.Well done to everyone at The Crown, keep up the good work and thank you!!"

"This is a great restaurant with delicious food, excellent service, and a reasonable price range of £10-20 per person. The atmosphere is inviting and I would rate the food, service, and atmosphere each a 4 out of 5. I recommend trying the Fish and Chips or Sunday Lunch dishes. There is some uncertainty about the parking space, but they do offer free parking in their lot."
