"Went here tonight with my husband for a meal. I ordered the pie, my husband ordered the 'Mixed Grill Special ' which is the smaller mixed grill as titled on the menu at £18.95. The larger one is titled the 'megamix grill ' at £25.95. I will say the food quality was excellent. Really enjoyed the meal, the waitresses really helpful and friendly. When it came to paying at the bar, the bar lady said as she typed in the till 'the large mixed grill ' and I saw her type the larger price in. I said, no, my husband ordered the 'special, she said, 'yes that 's the larger one '. I said 'no, that 's definitely the smaller one, I remember him pointing to it on the menu. ' She then asked the waitress to fetch the menu to point it out. Turns out, I was right, the smaller was titled the 'Special ', the waitress who served us, looked horrified at her mistake. The bar lady then went to speak to the manageress sitting just across the bar. I heard her say, 'well, he ate it, he 'll have to pay, its his mistake he told the waitress the special '. I then questioned her, and said 'sorry its not my husbands fault that he ordered the special and was given the larger portion, he 's not at fault. She repeated that he had eaten the bigger one. We have never eaten here before and he had not realised he had been given the larger option. The manageress was rude and shouting at us across the bar which was packed with customers. I offered to pay the full price, but wanted an apology as we were not at fault. She said 'oh just give it to them the cheaper price, I then felt very awkward, paid and left. She tried to insinuate my husband was at fault and then backtracked and tried blaming the chef. Such a shame as the food was lovely, but I feel her customer service was shocking given we were not at fault, maybe they should train their waitresses to understand the menu better? Or better yet, change their wording on the menu, not blame their customers for THEIR mistake. Will not return."

"I love the curry's at Dower House! I visited on a Thursday night recently, a small group of 3, around 18:45, there were a few tables available and it filled up towards 8pm. I booked online and it took 24 hours before they replied. So I'd say if you wanted to make sure you're booked in contact the restaurant and book . You enter through the side door and arrive at a check in desk, if nobody is there continue through and left onto the bar and they'll seat you from there. A nice pint of kingfisher We had a couple of poppadoms each and a pickle tray, it was all really fresh and the lime pickle was easily the best I've had in ages! I had Chicken Dansak for main, a nice sweet curry and some pilau rice and a garlic chapati (not on the menu but they were happy to make it it was really garlicky It all tasted great We all had a starter and a main, 1 garlic naan, 1 rice 1 chapati 2 pints 1 pint of coke and we had white coffees to finish. It came to just over £100 which I felt was reasonable for the quality and service. The place was clean and tidy and the staff were all friendly My photos didn't come out very well, I only managed the starter! Pakora photo, which tasted great. I can't wait to go back again Parking: 2 3 pounds for a few hours, card or cash at the pay machine Wheelchair accessibility: Access into the restaurant seemed ok, but please not this when you're booking. I'm not sure if there is a downstairs toilet, there may be for disabled."

"This restaurant has a vast menu that you might typically find at a British curry house, including a wide range of starters, Tandoori, curries, traditional and a signature collection, sides and a decent Vegetarian selection. The price range here is reasonable and around what you would expect at a similar Indian Restaurant with curries averaging around the £9/10 mark, therefore their Sunday Wednesday offer is definitely value for money. We enjoyed some delicious food including; Onion Bhajis – 3 decent sized Bhajis. Mixed Kebab – all great, the Sheek kebab especially, with a decent hint of spice. Spice Library Special; mouth-watering spicy curry consisting of lamb tikka, tandoori chicken off the bone, chicken tikka and meatballs all cooked to perfection in a spicy sauce. “Medium to Hot” – in Ben’s opinion (someone who does like very spicy food and has a fairly high tolerance) said this wasn’t spicy BUT that it was really tasty and the meat was very tender. The meatballs in particular were really good. Keema India; Mixed keema, chicken tikka and potatoes cooked together with green chillies. Medium – a really yummy curry with big chunks of meat and potato. Very filling. Goa Green Chicken Curry – the greenest curry I’ve ever seen!! But went down really well. Chicken Passanda; Chicken tikka cooked in a sweet creamy dish made with coconut flour, cream, sugar and mango sauce – a mild but flavoursome dish. The Garlic and Peshawari Naan breads were lovely to scoop up the saucy curries. The atmosphere here is decent and the service was also good. We enjoyed our visit as a group of two couples on a Sunday evening, and the place filled up with families, including children, and friends alike which was great to see. This restaurant is open Tuesday to Sunday evenings, and there is parking nearby. For takeaways, you can order direct from Spice Library’s website with 10% off all collections, or via FoodHub."
