"DISABILITY AWARENESS. After requesting wheelchair access at point f booking in July, I called the venue two days prior to confirm was assured by staff there would be no problem. On arrival I was faced with immediate danger due to many breaches of H S and fire regulations. This saw me be tipped out of my wheelchair have to use my leg to brace, taking the weight of myself and wheelchair. Due to the lack of safety standards, accessibility or any provision of reasonable adjustments as per the equality act 2010 I was forced to 'drive ' my electric wheelchair into oncoming traffic over a bridge into the car park in darkness with two random members of the public to kindly assist. . On arrival of the marquee I asked for the accessible entrance but told there wasn 't one and the doorway with step was the only option. The staff member stated 'well no one else with a wheelchair has ever had a problem ', which I neither believe nor find acceptable . I asked if there was a portable ramp but was shrugged at. By now I was embarrassed as other guests were having to squeeze past me whilst I was left outside freezing in wind and rain plus the entire room of people could see and hear what was going on and my having to explain my capacity etc. I asked to speak to a manager but told he was busy. Other audience members were now asking if they could help and although very kind it was mortifying and not there responsibility. My companion again asked to speak to the manager now 30 minutes left outside extremely cold a man turned up pro-porting to be the manager. He chose to stand behind my chair where I couldn 't see him and very gruffly asked what the issue was. I again explained the accessibility problems and that I had requested wheelchair access, his reply being ' well what exactly do you expect me to do? By now I was shivering and having to twist around in my chair to try and speak to him. I asked if he would be kind enough to come and stand where I could see him which was met by a loud sigh.I again mentioned a ramp to which he replied 'we do have one but its to steep to be used here '. I found this not only frustrating but an admittance that he was fully aware ahead of my arrival that I would not be able to gain access. Throughout this exchange he consistently sighed, rolled his eyes and laughed at my situation offering no help, understanding or empathy. He continued to insinuate I was being a drama queen and overly cautious in the use of my chair as others had apparently had no issue with the entrance and insisted the threshold was safe for wheelchairs despite an approx 10cm ridge/step. I explained if I was to try to get over it I would have to drive head on at my maximum speed which would result in damage to my frame and battery and more than likely catapult me out. By now I had become the entertainment as everyone was watching and listening. I also told the manager of my accident and several near misses but he just ignored me. I also asked if he had a risk assessment or accessibility statement which he refused to answer, Eventually agent, not a staff member came forward with two mental sections of the dance-floor which he then used as a makeshift ramp. By now I was becoming visibly upset and wanting to just get in and 'disappear ', By pure luck this gents plan worked and I was eventually able to get into the room. The manager immediately vanished.. Once in the room we were gruffly told 'your not allowed to sit there ' despite me stating I would not be able to see. I also asked where the disabled loo was but told there wasn 't one for the marquee but one in the hotel which I couldn 't get too! Throughout the entire time I was shown no understanding and indeed the comments. statements and treatment toward my disability were at best rude and unprofessional. However, in truth the attitude. comments, behaviours I perceive were completely bullish and discriminating. I was now left in a room with no access to a toilet nor emergency escape route as the temporary ramp had again been removed. I firmly believe that the owners and management of the establishment failed in ensuring my safety and basic rights as per the equality act 2010 which states that those with disability should not be disadvantaged nor treated differently due to a protected characteristic. The whole site is dangerous for all due to its disrepair but for those with any mobility, sight or cognitive issue is particularly dangerous. This is something the establishment have had reports of by other guests over a extended time but have not addressed. It appears the interior is now well passed its best and what was once by all accounts a gem of a place, been run into steep decline by management who seemingly think themselves better than their customers and above the regulations and governance set out by law. In summary my advice would be to avoid at all costs."

"With friends looking for a bite to eat last night and drove to Botley to go to Dolphin but it was full so we crossed the road and went into the Bugle and so pleased we did , far better than the Dolphin or the Shamblehurst Barn which we had tried earlier but the chef walked out and it was chaos . The Bugle is a traditional old coaching Inn with a vast menu, superb food, piping hot, between us we had the pie and veg, hunters chicken, gammon and tikka masala and have to say absolutely brilliant food, tasty well served with good portions and lovely and hot and the chips, well l don’t think any of us have had chips as good as these anywhere, fantastic. And the desserts, a huge choice and delicious, cannot fault the food in anyway, all excellent. The staff, Louise and other colleagues were fabulous, chatty and knowledgeable and we were told that the new management had only been there from about the beginning of the year and was already doing lots of improvements to turn the pub around because it had been closed for a long time and the new owner is absolutely lovely. Also a big surprise but very welcome the 20% off from Monday to Friday all day and evening, and it is dog friendly and they are very welcome with dog treats , what a special place to go. The difference with the bugle to any other pub is that it is a traditional pub, bare floorboards , wooden tables, comfy chairs but not loud in colour, not dressed to perhaps please everyone but it was a lovely pub to eat and drink in, and sadly not many pubs like this around anymore, so well worth a visit, you won’t be disappointed. This pub is obviously now being run by a competent and knowledgable landlord who knows his business and we will definitely be back on a regular basis and have been told the Sunday carvery is excellent which we will try very soon. Thankyou for an excellent meal and hope your business goes from strength to strength. Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5 Hotel highlights: Kid-friendly, Great value"

"Decided last minute after the cinema to go to Prezzo for dinner -just myself and my daughter They had plenty of tables although you would have thought I’d rocked up at about mins before closing with a party of ten by the surly eye...roll I got from the waitress. The chicken pasta dish I ordered had a fairly large (perhaps an inch long) chicken bone in it which I didn’t notice until it was in my mouth. I discretely told the waitress to be told, that it’s to be expected as chicken has bones. I’m aware chicken has bones and cows do too but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t expect to find bones in a spag Bol either!! Again more rolling eyes but (despite the fact they didn’t bring round Parmesan or the pepper grinder which is half the fun of eating out in an Italian) the food tasted good so I let that pass. Then I ordered tiramisu and it came frozen .. I’d handed back my menu so wasn’t sure if I’d missed something maybe this was a special sort of ice-cream tiramisu I ate it so as not to be fussy and it tasted ok but it wasn’t that great ?? When the waiter collected the plates I asked if I’d missed something and was it supposed to be frozen he looked blank and after about ten mins the surly girl comes over with the bill and did apologise (it wasn’t the most heartfelt apology) and removed the tiramisu from the bill as though she was doing some huge favour errrrrr I have just eaten Un-defrosted cream !!! I at this point decided to make no fuss just cut my losses and make a note not to eat there again- and not to tip. Sad really as the food tasted ok but the staff didn’t look like they wanted to be there and these little touches meant that I won’t go back."

"We stayed in this beautiful hotel before going on a cruise from Southampton. We had read about this amazing restaurant so were excited to eat here. The service was shocking. We had been in the spa since we arrived so we deliberately booked a late dinner to avoid the rush. It was clear that it had been extremely busy before we arrived but when we arrived most people had finished eating. We stood at the point waiting to be seated for over 10 minutes as staff walked past us many times with their heads down. They had nothing in their hands so we didn’t understand why people kept walking past us but no-one would seat us. Then this was the same for the rest of our evening. We waited over half an hour after being seated to be offered drinks, then another 15 minutes before we ordered. We were becoming more and more aware that it was getting later and maybe the kitchen would close. My husband actually let out a dramatic noise at one point saying that he was dying of hunger while staff walked past. I of course was embarrassed but we were still ignored. When we did eat the food was delicious but the service was the worst I have ever received anywhere. We asked to take our dessert to our room as it had got so late. My husband ordered a chocolate dessert that was given in a box to take to the room. Our breakfast experience was better as we were staying in the hotel but I have never received such terrible service before or since."
