"I was looking forward to going to the Ship as not been for years but was very disappointed. I had Cheese Pie which read well on the menu LANCASHIRE CHEESE PIE (v) Short crust pastry, house chutney, hand cut chips, apple walnut salad . It was basically cheesy mashed potato in a small pie dish topped with pastry. The salad was ok, the chips were good but not home made which hand cut implies. I ate it all as I was hungry but for £15 it was not value for money. My friend had Shepherd 's Pie, £17, SHEPHERD’S PIE Mashed potato, crumbly Lancashire cheese, minted peas, pickled beetroot . She was equally disappointed, the filling was padded out with frozen vegetables and she had to send it back as it was cold. A glass of wine was £8, a coffee £4, a lime and soda £1.80. Total cost £45.80. Both of us were disappointed and it certainly wasn 't value for money. It 's not hard to do Shepherd 's Pie or Cheese Pie well, both simple dishes which both of us are capable of cooking at home, to a much higher standard I might add, but it 's nice to have someone else cook for you. Not at that price though. Neither of us will return. The pub has a good ambience, decor is pleasing, it was clean, the young staff were pleasant and attentive. It was just the quality of the food that let it down."
