"my father, I wasn't in this pub since the remembrance Sunday before luredown this was actually our first pub meal since the afternoon a few 2 years later. dad had said that the pub had only eaten at lunchtime, but since a few evenings in the week it was added. eating is right boiled home (hopefully this is not misinterpreted as it is intended to be a compliment) I would go so far to say 's as much as a meal her grandmother or aunt would cook for her. The last weekend of dinner is between 5 7 o'clock, but given the recent price increases everywhere, the meals are made with a decent selection of drinks at reasonable prices. the employees are not only very pleasant and will realize that they will be "in short with them, but want to take care of them. toilet facilities were perfectly maintained (smarte flowing walls etc). they're going to leave very satisfied. bonus for me was that my father lives just a few streets away, but there are a few places close to park. the pub has also a real concrete wheelchair ramp for those who need one, what more, it is not jammed with furniture inside. best piece for the local traditionists, is the classic old nb blue star sign hanging up (from my knowledge, the ananas has a similar sign from the golden aria,) although unfortunately no newcastle exhibition on tap or amber ale flake. but I can thoroughly recommend a visit in a traditional village pub in a predominantly urban region."

"I am fortunate enough to live within walking distance of the Grand Hotel. We have held a family wedding there, frequent Copperfields and tha Lounge regularly and had relatives stay there. We were delighted to recieve a gift voucher for the Brasserie at Christmas. We...booked to use it on our anniversary. It was a Friday evening and it was somewhat of a disappointment to find only four other couples in the large dining room. To me the atmosphere was somewhat lacking. We also thought that the menu was limited for example there was only one chicken dish and after asking the waiter what it was it was a small whole chicken served hunter style not good for a partner that doesn’t like chicken on the bone. The vegetarian option were also limited. In the end we had steaks, one sirloin and one fillet. The fillet steak was very good. Although the price was at the top end I baulk at having to pay extra for a sauce and onion rings the steak itself coming with one small mushroom, half a tomato and chips. My prawn cocktail was good. The service was good if not a bit too efficient! To me if the Brasserie wants to attract other than Hotel residents in numbers it needs to make the dining room a little more intimate and perhaps look at the menu to attract younger diners, don’t have to look far we love Oras and Allards for a dining experience. Trip adviser don’t allow you to rate as good it’s either very good or average and my experience wasn’t in the very good category and I wouldn’t return unless there was a change to the menu."

"We hadn't been to the Keel Row since living in Cramlington about 30 years and recently decided to go there for our weekly pub lunch. I had noticed on the on-line menu that all the listed awards were years old, being upto 9 years in the past, but decided to ignore this fact and take a chance, especially as there was one item in the mains that we hadn't had before. We got a table for two and our menus. I noticed two old chips lurking under the table but my wife didn't think that it was worth mentioning it to the staff. I had the prawn cocktail, which contained the smallest prawns I had ever seen and a mediocre sauce. My wife had creamy garlic mushrooms, which was plain with no garlic taste at all. For mains, we had both wanted the sizzling Shanghai mixed platter but were told that it was off, as they had ran out of Hoisin sauce! The alternatives were pretty standard fare. My fish and chips had a relatively small battered fish which was wet and soggy inside, with tiny, mushy flakes, as opposed to the large, solid flakes elsewhere. My wife's checken was unremarkable. We also had a loud pub phone ringing nearby unanswered for several minutes, despite the place being fairly quiet and also noticed that tables were wiped down without being sprayed as in other places. Also, tables and chairs were moved around nearby while we were eating. Overall, this was the poorest meal experience we had come across in a very long time and, needless to say, we will not be dining there again. Certainly not recommended and an eatery to be avoided."

Dil And The Bear

Dil And The Bear

Cafe • Seafood • Mexican • European

"DIl the Bear is a well regimented and efficient pleasant café serving beverages, pastries, quality cakes, tasty breakfasts and imaginative lunches. First find a seat, decide what you want, return to the counter to order and pay. Take-aways may be ordered directly at the counter where high stools are available at the bar opposite for waiting. Dil now only accepts card payment, they accept neither cash nor cheques. The usual selection of coffees is made by the barista staff and food is cooked in a small kitchen at the rear. The pastries and cakes are homemade and are regularly featured on Dil’s Facebook page. A selection of cold drinks is available. Menus are available on clip boards beside the counter for perusal at your table and a list of specials is written up each day. The café is closed on Mondays except sometimes when Monday is a bank holiday then the café is closed on Tuesday instead (Usually notified on Facebook). Prices are moderate to high but reasonable. There is additional seating on the pavement under cover of an awning. Dogs are allowed outside but not at the inside tables. Blankets are offered for cold days. There is a toilet at the rear opposite the kitchen. When the café is busy it can be difficult to obtain a table without going all the way inside seeking a free seat. In these circumstances, we find it necessary to ask the knowledgeable staff if there are any tables free rather than mount a full-scale expedition to locate one. Tap water may be obtained by customers at a service point opposite the counter on a strictly self-service basis. Beware: breakfasts may only be ordered up to 11:30 while lunches may only be ordered from 12:00. The staff are helpful, kind, and pleasant and customers ordering breakfasts or lunches may negotiate substitution items in most cases."
