"Newcastle Village Hotel, you can’t REALLY expect to deliver a shoddy cash-grabbing experience like the party of 09/12/2017 and not be called out on it. £30.00 for a turkey dinner? Maybe, for a quality Norfolk bird with ALL the trimmings cooked to perfection; absolutely NOT for this spew. In fact the difference between what it said on the menu and what was served up is so brazen that one can almost admire the cheek of it. The “Proscuitto Wrapped Turkey Breast” was not wrapped in ANYTHING: it was just cheap-tasting turkey breast, like cash and carry stuff. Likewise the “pigs in blankets” HAD NO BLANKETS: They were just cocktail sausages, and not quality ones but the type that contain trotters, ears and lips. The stuffing made Paxo taste like the work of a culinary master by comparison, and the only things I’ve EVER tasted that were soggier than the roast potatoes were the roast parsnips in the next tray along. I can’t comment on the sprouts or carrots as I don’t like either: it would have been nice to have had a greater choice. When the hotel emailed us the menu weeks earlier it asked about any dietary needs, so we advised that one of our party had a gluten intolerance. If he expected a bespoke meal he was sadly mistaken: on the night he was just told not to eat the sausages or the stuffing. Two and a half hours later, following complaints, the man who seemed to be in charge offered to knock up some gluten-free pasta. It was way too late by then. To be fair this has been my experience of Christmas parties over the years: the food is invariably overpriced and substandard yet enough people are persuaded to cough up in advance to make them highly lucrative ventures. It’s a cynical business, and the Village Hotel is down there with the worst of them. Oh yeah, and my cracker contained this tiny little spinning top."

"My family and I called in for a sandwich and a coffee, having heard rave reviews. Sadly it was not an experience to 'relish '. As you would expect, the coffees were nice, and because of this we expected the food to be similarly good. They certainly charge a premium price for it. £5 for a takeaway sausage and bacon sandwich is steep but ok for quality food. Instead we got burnt bacon and bargain basement watery sausages. The really cheap frozen kind. The sausages in Weatherspoons or a greasy spoon are better. It must have cost about 50p to put that sandwich together. I 'd much prefer to pay a little more and support a local business, but I don 't expect that business to be ripping off it 's local customers. If you want food, give this place a miss and go to Gregg 's instead."

"Eating here is always a tasty treat! We come quite often and see familar faces in both staff and customers. Our treat this time was from the special menu which is sometimes available; we had home made minestrone soup and belly pork with black pudding...as our starters (the soup is always available on the normal menu, belly pork is on the special menu). Because Ive had it before I know the soup is home made from scratch and has big chunky veg in with just the right taste. The belly pork was to die for with crackling separate, lovely black pudding and a gorgeous creamy sauce. For mains we both had beef stroganoff from the special menu. I asked for it without mushroom and the chef was flexible enough to be able to do that for me. Loads of tasty strips of lean tender beef in sauce served with boiled rice. Extremely tasty! As we werent having dessert we also had a bowl of their gotgeous hand cut chunky chips to share as a side dish. A fantastic meal. For people wanting great value for money the lunchtime special is still served till 6pm which is the same minstrone soup or hand cut potato skins, any pizza or pasta from the main menu and ice cream or coffee all for £5.95. Absolutely amazing value, and cheaper than most takeaways!"

"Me and my partner visited here with a groupon voucher that my mother in law had got us for Xmas-though the voucher ran out when we originally booked it wasn’t a problem and we booked for a Friday night,we ordered starters the nachos was a...huge portion and I had the pate which was nice (though not enough bread)the steaks were lovely and proper what I would call home made chips-and it was a relaxed atmosphere though only a few more tables were in around us,the young lady who served us was lovely pleasent and polite and nothing was too much trouble,we will return here for another meal at some point."

"beautiful, friendly bistro in the heart of whitley bay. we visited during the vegan restaurant week as the online menu was so appetizing and ordered 3 courses for a bargain 17. from the starters we got the broken plant tempura with coriander hummus and spinat, garlic and cashew nuts ravioli with spinat, walnut and chili pesto. both starters were deliciously fresh and tasteful. for the net I ordered the Lensmoussaka with grilled aubergines, béchamel sauce, garlic bread and some of the best melted free of cheese I have ever tasted while my wife got the veg-pie with veg, kartoffel and onion-gred. again, both dishes were absolutely excellent. the quality has not stopped. the sticky toffee pudding was the sky and the coconut toffee sauce was to die while the amaretto and chocolate mousse cake was divine. let them hope that the success of the vegan week will be some of these dishes the regular menu."

"We visited The barking bistro on Sunday morning. This place is amazing . Both Rueben and Millie had a great time. There is water for them as you come in. Plenty of treats to buy and even a bottle of pawsecco which we had to buy. There is a menu for both dogs and humans . I chose a peace of home made victoria sponge , has to be the best i have ever tasted . My hubby had a bacon sarnie . The place and staff are fantastic. Thank you so much. If you have or love dogs I would highly recommend The barking bistro x"

"I have had some previous really good experiences with Allards before tonight, so I was very disappointed in the changes. On entering, my friend had asked if it was possible to turn just one of the 2 large TVs off, we are both autistic and she explained we have visual processing difficulties so it 's difficult to communicate with the additional stimulus. She also pointed out that nobody was actually watching them (apart from him, we noticed later) and was told that both TVs have to stay on because they 'paid a lot to have it installed. ' After ordering food, I walked upstairs to the ladies and the same staff member was walking down them. The lighting up the stairs was so dim that I hadn 't seen him. I stepped out of his way to be polite, and in doing so caught and injured my shoulder on the side of the stair railings/ceiling joist. I 'm not the most steady on my feet, and I was obviously shaken and had cried out in pain. The guy just rushed past me as I lost my balance again and fell onto my hands and knees on the next set steps. He missed that one because he had just walked off without even checking if I was ok. He saw that first collision, as I was very clearly right in front of him (although I am at that 'invisible age ' for women). I did that thing where you feel really stupid somehow you must have deserved complete indifference/humiliation. A simple 'are you ok ' would have gone a long way. The girl waiting on our table was lovely, she tried to cover the mirrors so the 2 blinding TVs were not in our eyeline and then helped us get settled in seats with less glare, so things seemed to be improving... Until I ordered the Mussels... fortunately I didn 't eat too many, as the Thai style paste used to make the sauce, was clogged with Thai paste, and they were not particularly pleasant. I seldom give a bad review, but to add further insult to injury (a sore shoulder, neck, back and bruised knees from my fall) I 'm also currently filling in time between rushing back and forth to the toilet (having the sort of symptoms you might expect from bad mussels); so it 's a good a time as any to make an exception. I may be repeating those mussels tonight, but I don 't intend to risk repeating my custom at an Allards again in the future. Allards, if you are going to lock the downstairs bathroom with a radar key (excluding invisible disabilities, and others who have balance or other reasons they may need to avoid steps) at least make sure your stairways are well lit. If your staff are witnesses to, or are involved in an accident with a customer, you should train them to respond to this in an appropriate way. I expect to be treated with the same care and respect I afford others. If you are going to switch up your usual sensory friendly/accommodating environment for the 'Sports Bar super big TV 's competing with loud music theme ' maybe advertise this change clearly outside, so your old regulars can make other plans, or perhaps make some adjustments to the way you accommodate your neurodivergent visitors (no you don 't pay a lot to have us, like you do with your shiney new TVs, but we shouldn 't be treated like we are less important). And, if you can 't adequately and safely prepare food on a quiet Sunday evening, just don 't offer it."

"We decided to try this pub as we had herd good things about it. It is a traditional looking country pub, very small and dated. The food on offer was excellent quality and cooked to order. The staff seem more than nice and nothing was too much trouble. Reasonable priced. The menu ranged was really good too, what I would call traditional English, one of our party had liver and bacon, I had fish and chips, and the other member had a wonderful pie, all served pipping hot. The down side is it is very small, and very very dated not shabby chic dated just grubby looking dated."

"This place is a vegan's paradise and my absolute favorite spot for dining out. It's amazing to have such a wide variety of vegetable-based and fresh dishes to choose from. The high quality ingredients and careful thought put into the menu are evident. My family and I visit almost every weekend and have never been disappointed with anything we've tried. The staff always provides a warm welcome and serves excellent coffee. It's unfortunate that the space is limited and they now only offer takeaway service, but this allows them to sell a range of plant-based deli products for home enjoyment. This small family-owned business truly deserves all the success that comes their way, as everything about it is simply perfect in my opinion."

"An excellent cafe, in my opinion with an array of beverages, hot or cold. They also, e.g., provide quality food. From a sandwich e.g., BLT to a cheese savoury. Or try one of there many high range lunches. It's approximately 2 minutes away from the metro station. Or should you choose to drive, parking is also very close. In conclusion a trendy, high quality cafe with easy access by car, bus or train. I'd personally recommend it to anyone!!"

"We ate quite early, and were the only diners, although lots of takeaway orders were being processed. There was a good choice on the menu, and we enjoyed our meal very much. The food was well cooked and presented, and the portion size good. The service was a bit offhand the waiter brought the bill (no offer of a dessert menu not sure if they even have one) and disappeared. We left the money and shouted goodbye, but got no response!"

"My twin brother Stephen and I were in Newcastle for a week's holiday, one of the days we decided to jump the tram line to Whitley Bay and visit some of the great little places along the tram route,this is what brough us to Monkseaton, one of the first pubs we visited was The Black Horse Pub. This is a superb pub ,multi roomed, an island style serving bar, pubby decor and furnishings, tv's and big screens to enjoy the sport and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside in their beer garden, a very good pub indeed. We were here on a Wednesday late afternoon, a friendly young bar person greeted us warmly, we ordered Strongbow dark fruit cider at the bar ,these were served iced cold and sparkling and we just kicked back, chilled out and took in the great pub we were in. My cider was really good, a crisp, effervescent cider that on a really hot afternoon a totally refreshing brew, it was just so good being in such a lovely pub enjoying an iced cold cider sat with my twinny. We really enjoyed our ciders in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting for a first time visit to The Black Horse Pub we were totally impressed. The Black Horse Pub is easy to locate along Front Street. Opening hours are; Monday to Thursday, Midday till 11pm. Friday &Saturday, Midday till Midnight. Sunday, Midday till 11pm. A great pub ,one I highly recommend you visit if you're in the area ,its only a few minutes walk from Monkseaton Metro Station."

"I hadn't visited this cafe in years and didn't have high expectations. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the cafe had been renovated and now had a stylish and comfortable atmosphere with good background music. I opted for the coffee and cake offer for £1 which included a choice of Victoria sponge or clementine cake. I chose the clementine cake which was delicious and tasted homemade. Next time, I plan to order a black coffee and use the milk cartons as the coffee was not strong enough for my liking, but still enjoyable. I would recommend giving this cafe a try, it has definitely improved from its mediocre past."

"I had reserved a table for Wednesday evening as a friend from London was visiting. Irvin's phoned in the afternoon to say they'd had a major electrical fault and had to close the kitchen. They were terribly apologetic, offered to rebook, and recommended another restaurant close by in case it had to be Wednesday. Well, it had to be Wednesday on that occasion, but the courtesy and care of that phone call meant that when another friend came by on Friday, we had no hesitation in going there without a booking for lunch. The food is excellent, as is the atmosphere. But it's the service that makes all the difference."

"We began our evening with drinks at the bar, enjoying the lovely atmosphere before moving on to the lounge for our Christmas meal. The tables were beautifully set and the food was exceptional and plentiful, with extra gravy available. Hats off to the chef for cooking our meals to perfection. The staff were extremely accommodating, even providing table service for our drinks. We all agreed that our meal was delightful and had a truly special day. Kudos to everyone at the Hunting Lodge for a job well done."

"I recently stopped by Westholme Farm for two takeaway roast dinners and a pint, all for less than £20. Unfortunately, they only offer a three-course meal for dine-in customers. However, I found a more accommodating option at the Jolly Bowman, where I was able to get two Sunday lunches to go. They offered a choice of beef, pork, or chicken with mince dumplings in small, medium, or large portions. The meals were delicious, with generous servings of gravy on the side. The staff was friendly and I highly recommend this place. I will definitely be returning this Sunday for the mince dumplings."

"Called in for a hit drink and breakfast. They had no sausage sandwiches, so my husband ordered a bacon ciabstta roll. I ordered the all-day breakfast wrap. Initially, they said these were sold out, but then found a delivery. We sat down with our hot drinks and our food arrived swifty..no issue with the service. But after one bite I was disappointed to find a spicy salsa type sauce in the wrap. I have an intolerance to peppers and onions, I didn't ask as I really did not expect breakfast wrap to contain such ingredients. My lovely husband swapped so I had a lovely bacon ciabata roll and he ate my wrap. He likes salsa but even he was not very complimentary about it! The Sausages were horrible the egg was set and the salsa style says was just horrible. So disappointed and concerned about others with food intolerance too!! Come on M&S this not right!? Give the all day breakfast wrap a miss!"
