"I am a local resident in the area and had never noticed this café before. While I was waiting for my medication at the neighboring pharmacy, I decided to grab a drink and a pastry. I ordered a fizzy Elderflower drink and a pastry, which surprisingly costed just under £10! Despite the high price, I paid for it and went to the back of the café, which seemed to be a back room. Unfortunately, the café's decor was not appealing at all. They went for a mismatched look, but it was clear that they had not invested much in the decor, making it unappealing. Additionally, there was a strong smell of old greasy food in the air. I sat down at a table, sipped my drink, which was okay, and started on the pastry. It was disappointing and definitely not worth the price. It seemed like they bought the pastry cheaply and charged a high markup. The menu prices were also shockingly high. I compared it to a farm shop called Eggs to Apples a few miles away, which has higher prices but offers good food, excellent service, and well-decorated dining area. The Greedy Goat café charging similar prices didn't make sense to me. I left the café feeling ripped off and carrying the remainder of my Elderflower drink, leaving the pastry behind. I am disappointed with the quality of the food and feel like I could have cooked better at home. I strongly recommend avoiding this place as it just seems like a typical greasy spoon."

"My friend, who was visiting from The Netherlands, wanted to experience a “traditional meal in a traditional pub”. Most establishments now advertise themselves as gastro pubs, which wasn’t what we were looking for. Having read the most recent reviews and looked at the menu we selected ‘The **** Inn’ in Peasmarsh. My friend ordered from the section entitled ‘pub classics’, selecting Steak Ale Pie which was described as (presumably served with) “Creamy Mashed Potato Seasonal Vegetables” for £15 As a vegan who is wheat intolerant my own choice was very limited but I’m used to this. There was no indication that any dishes were gluten free, although there was the standard notice regarding allergens “please make us aware when ordering food” I did query one dish which turned out not to be gluten free and took a stab in the dark and selected “a trio of sausages’ which was served with ‘beans and chips’. The beans turned out, not surprisingly. to be baked beans. We ordered cola light and bitter lemon to drink. The drinks were fine but when my friend ordered a second glass of bitter lemon he couldn’t drink it he said it tasted as if someone had squirted washing up liquid into the glass. Both hot meals arrived on cold plates. Neither looked remotely appetising. The pastry on the steak pie was pale and insipid, (it looked undercooked) and was served with gravy, a dollop of overcooked cabbage and carrots. There was a round of what looked like potato mashed with parsnip or onions. What I had thought was either parsnip or onions turned out to be just lumps of potato. So much for the ‘creamy’ mashed potato and ‘seasonal’ vegetables. Carrot and cabbage cannot, surely, be described as ‘seasonal, vegetables’ in August or does seasonable now mean vegetables that are available whatever the season? My meal was so poor that I left most of it. Both sausages and crinkle chips were obviously straight out of the freezer: some of the chips were hot but too many were barely warm and the baked beans were cold. The sausages, however, had been heated to within an inch of their lives: hot but hard, dried up and tasteless. I was charged £12 for this! When I went to pay, the barmaid, who was friendly enough, asked if we had enjoyed our meal. I replied “Not really” and went on to describe the state of my meal. “Oh we always serve on cold plates and you should have told me about the cold food and I would have heated it up for you”. I didn’t mention the soapy drink as I felt it was up to my friend to make his own complaints as I hadn’t actually tasted either the drink or his meal but he (and I) just wanted to leave there as fast as possible. My advice to prospective diners is: read ALL the reviews before you go there. We should have done. The claim on their website is “It's important to us that we serve the best quality food we can to our customers”. All I can say is “Really?”"

"Having looked for a venue for of us to meet and have a nice evening meal we looked at Powdermills which is good food but dated decor but that was fully booked and we came across the Claverton. With the high reviews i suppose...we had high expectations and with a weekend menu of plus for a steak there looked to be a few good choices for someone who doesn't eat fish. On arrival we were met by a pleasant young lady who took us to the lounge to read the menus and sorted out a pre-dinner drink. Lounge felt a bit average and not a warm welcoming fire or comfy seating, felt a little like a waiting room with upright seating and typical corporate brochure tables, no real ambience or character. It came to ordering and sadly they had run out of the Camembert and only had one portion of turkey left when three diners wanted it, running out of choices i could actually eat or want to eat i had to go for the steak yes, sadly a fussy eater) Porkbelly starter, one of the cheapest cuts of pork ever but with the tiny portions they must have been very special pigs! Marsh Steak was good but again not a big portion for the supplement of Pudding was good although a substitute as the apple and rhubard crumble had run out! However sadly the dining room was a little cramped and simply just lacked any atmosphere as did the bar and the hotel, it was like a morgue, no ambient background music no real Christmas cheer, all in all a bit of an odd experience. Although a very young workforce is acceptable there wasn't even a hint of anyone over on the premises in charge or appeared at any time. Same experience you often have in budget venues! Finally we had to get a member of staff who was washing up to retrieve coats for her to reach in with wet soapy hands to pick up an expensive winter coat! Not really what i hoped for....................Not sure i would recommend."
