"Here is a second review, a year after my wife wrote the first one after our first visit on June 9, 2023 (review by Ellen). We had already promised in 2023 that we would come back again. Now a year later we were on holiday in the UK again. On the way back to NL via Harwich, I tried to make a reservation 5 days in advance, but it turned out that they were full. After our explanation, they managed to accommodate us on June 7, 2024. And once again eating here was a wonderful and fantastic experience. We had already visited several Asian/Thai restaurants in 3 weeks in the UK (and last year in the Netherlands), but nowhere was Thai food this good. So good and freshly prepared and deliciously flavoured. And also top service. This really is a top restaurant that deserves the full 5 stars! We will definitely come again on our next visit to the UK."
"OK Walton being in my words a quinticiel town this restaurant after reviewing on Tripadvisor had good reviews? The restaurant website doesn't show the menu very well but still we called in at 8pm. Yes it was a cold night and the restaurant is small but with the door opening with clientele coming and going it was to be honest VERY cold N|O BLODDLY COLD. The food and service very good but was very crampet with the mens toilet needing modernisation. Didn't pay the bill but small bottle of beer £3.75 wow no draught so a less pint would be £7.50 Not on my watch lol Burger bar opposite which looked good Happy days Victor Meldrew"

"a very small but beautiful place they have here! the fact that it is small, makes it so much better, usually in a huge restaurant you lost among all other tables and sometimes service can hit and miss, but not at this place! great eating a really nice menu that also changes! I was highly recommended here a few times. I would book a table although it is a small restaurant. well done!"

"More options added since my last visit to the area, including sausage with or without batter, tofu kebab and cheeseburger. The man I spoke to said all the vegan options were cooked separately. We tried the banana blossom fish and chips tofu kebabs. Both really nice, especially the chips, and very large portions."

"The food at this restaurant was absolutely fantastic. The service was a bit lacking, but we were informed in advance about a staffing crisis and understood that they were doing their best. We will definitely return because the food quality was exceptional. Hopefully, they can resolve their staffing issues so that the service matches the excellence of the food."

"We had a family reunion in Harwich and decided to go to the wine bar as it was always a lovely place to eat. What a disappointment. As soon as we walked in a waitress announced that we couldn’t all have a roast as there weren’t enough and was asking what we wanted before some of us had even sat down. Once meals were ordered we were told lots of other dishes were also unavailable. The meals arrived fairly promptly but were dire-the roast beef was grey. We then wanted to order desserts but couldn’t as the kitchen had closed. Overall, we felt very unwelcome and the staff were verging on hostile after a clearly busy day. It’s such a shame that a long-established Harwich eatery has gone down hill."

"We have eaten here before, for my birthday, and enjoyed it so much we were determined to return. Expectations were high as it had been so good before, however, we were still amazed by the food again! Chicken linguine was wonderful. Moist flavourful chicken...with a green drizzle that was so nice I could have drunk it! Seafood, wonderful, and my very fussy sister almost licked her plate clean, she enjoyed the swordfish so much. Cannot recommend this place enough. Well done chef. Why don’t you have a Michelin star yet?"

"Normally I have enjoyed visiting the White Coffee House However, called there with my daughter and grandchildren (plus a dog) yesterday the outside seats were quite wet. I had gone in to order the drinks and cakes, and my daughter came in...asking for some napkins to wipe the seats. He said he would provide some later and as she walked out he said Well it has been raining'! Today my daughter, grandson and myself wanted to wait there with a drink, whilst granddaughter was having her nails done across the road. My daughter had a can of Pepsi and I had an Apple Fruit Shoot. We had to ask for glasses to put the drinks in! He put one on the counter, so we had to ask for a second one. We then asked if we could have a bowl of water for the dog, and was told we don't do bowls'! Don't think I'll call there again!"

"Honestly fantastic the best burger around for miles! Bird and Bean has always been one of my favourite breakfast/coffee spots, so I knew we just had to try them for dinner one night. We ordered a takeout and the packaging was fantastic, keeping the food hot until we arrived home. We had a huge order and everything was to such a high standard (ordering 6 meals and extras). We may also have indulged in some special Euros donuts which went down a treat. Can’t wait to go back, highly recommend!!!!"

"Ordered two large pizzas and extras for my family, was told 45mins, after an hour called them to check on the progress and was told it would be another 20 minutes. When I asked why after initially telling me 45mins? Was just told they are busy and I will have to wait another 20 mins. He then said I will refund you, but we still wanted the food as had been waiting for an hour and was hungry. So said ok but please be as quick as possible as our order was placed over an hour ago, he then said forget it I will cancel the order and refund you but use someone else in the future! I have used Family pizza regularly for years but last time we ordered the pizza and chips the meal was soggy and poor. I felt I should give them another opportunity, but the way the manager dealt with the delay today was unacceptable and his attitude was terrible. I now await the refund and will never use them again. Ordered Domminos and it arrived 15mins later"

"Stumbled upon this little pub when visiting the town. Very welcoming. We had a drink in the bar and booked a table for our evening meal. Very historic old building with plenty of stories attached to it. Food was all homemade and delicious. We had the chicken with chips and salad and Fish Pie. Will go again for sure. Would recommend."

"After a lovely walk around the grounds myself and my mum went into the tea rooms the restaurant was fully booked because it was Mother’s Day eve, which we fully anticipated . As this was our first visit we had not booked so we went to the tea room side and queued up . There were 6 people in front of us and it took 20 mins before were served . The tea rooms are a very delightful setting and my mother went outside to get us a table . I gave our order . 2x chicken salad with mango and avacado . No avacado left, fair enough . More than happy without it . Now the chicken was delicious I can’t lie and it worked well with the 2 small slices of mango. However it was just all on a bed of rocket with 2 small slices of tomato and a couple of chunks of cucumber . There was no mustard dressing (as advertised) . It was all very tasty but certainly not worth £8:95 . I also had a very small bottle of prosseco with a bottle of water and 2 small bottles of lemonade . I was quite shocked when I was asked for £38 . All in all it was very pleasant and we enjoyed what we had but I felt that it was vastly overpriced for what we had . I will be visiting Beth Chatto gardens again but I certainly would not use the tea room again ."

"Avoid. Very unwelcoming! We turned up for lunch at 12:30 and happy to see lots of space in the beer garden to sit. We had small children and wanted to get a light lunch. Went to order and told the kitchen was at capacity despite the venue being not even 1/4 full, no tables in view being served food and they wouldn't even do a few bowls of chips. What struck us most was lack of effort to accommodate us in any way and the coldness of the welcome."

"Our Friends recommended your Pub to us and i must say the Sunday Roast was delicious the Home made Apple Pie Custard was lovely to. The Pub was very Old Fashioned and really cosy and the Staff were very pleasant and even gave George extra Yorkies to, we will definitely be returning and the whole Meal for 3 including drinks was only £52 xx"

"We'd heard The Hanover was under new management and decided to go with another couple whilst at the Harwich Sea Shanty Festival. We'd reserved a table and it was ready on time. The menu was a combination of traditional pub food and some more unusual...dishes which catered to Vegan and Vegetarians. We had the tempura vegetables to start the best tempura batter I've had in the UK. Between us we had steak, fish in tempura batter and chips, fish pie and the Edamame burger in a beetroot wrap. Our waitress advised that there would be a wait as there is only one chef and they were fully booked plus, as we were aware, it was Sea Shanty Festival. It was well worth the wait. This was not pre-pared food reheated all fresh ingredients cooked from scratch. Absolutely delicious and great presentation. If they can do that well when they were stretched to capacity I take my hat off to them. We will be returning."

"Fantastic restaurant! The atmosphere is wonderful. I dined at The Manor on a Tuesday night and was pleasantly surprised by how busy this charming little spot was. The service was very friendly and accommodating, and the food was outstanding. The moules marinière were a true masterpiece, and the lamb rack was both delicious and expertly prepared. Overall, this level of service and quality is something I would typically expect from a much more renowned establishment, and the prices are reasonable considering the high standard of the offerings. I will definitely be returning!"

"We were in Clacton for the weekend and found this place via Tripadvisor. The reviews weren't wrong. We were struggling to choose because the choices looked so good so we decided to go for the 3-course set menu. It began with a beuatifully presented selection of Thai starters, of which the chicken skewer was the star, but it's probably the best prawn toast I've had. The mains were chicken, beef and vegetables with superbly cooked jasmine rice. Then a very nice ice cream for dessert. Lovely service too, very friendly. Under £35 a head including drinks. It was quite busy and there was a steady stream of takeaway orders being picked up too. I'm not surprised."

"we stumbled over this little gem of a restaurant during the visit to dovercourt one evening and the smell of the food was so mouthful water that we said that we had come back tomorrow with the rest of our travel companion to eat here. I'm glad we did this. this food was amazing! the experience began with the owner ibrahim greeted us as soon as we entered the restaurant. this is a wonderful man we soon found out puts so much time and love in eating as he does to make sure that the customer is happy. his attentiveness to ensure that we understood the dishes and what it contained was a refreshing change in the hurly atmosphere that has the majority of restaurants. a member of our party has a nut allergy and ibrahim ensured that the ordered court would not have cross-contamination or contact with any nuts. the food arrived and our thoughts were absolutely bleeding. everything was fresh, tasty, and the presentation of it was something they would find in a five star restaurant. the dishes were a large part of the food, but above all the quality was there. everything on the plate perfectly matched to each other, and there was so much taste in every dish that we all wanted that we were hungry so we could continue on this tasteful journey through the menu. the Turkish meze bar fulfilled and surpassed all expectations and I guarantee that I will let everyone I know participate in the kitchen and atmosphere of this amazing small restaurant. the prices are very reasonable, and no word of a lie that if this restaurant was in london, they need a reservation and expect to pay double. I hope everyone has the opportunity to meet ibrahim and his wonderful family during the Turkish meze bar. please go and experience the amazing food he serves proudly. amazing!"

"You do not need a time capsule to drift back, to a time when a business went a million miles to make you fill so wanted, but add to that your dog, yes your dog, the bestvdog friendly cafe your ever come across. If you got problems sitting on a aluminium seat there are cushions provided. You can enjoy a delicious bacon sarnie with a book, yes they have second books, donate by other customers. The funds go last hope Dog charity. Stunning views better than Monty Carlo, beach dog friendly, you maybe lucky and see a sailing boat race. I want to go on and on and on, come and see yourself this gem, you can see the wind farm off shore with your coffee or tea. What could be more priceless than seeing a old Thames Barge sailing by, as they used to up and down our coast line. If want a extra to this gem, Frinton On Sea is just 2 to 2 half walk away, and over the back is a lovely country park, buy a parking ticket though. Dogs can enjoy a beach play then sniff and read. So there you have it. Come on down"

"We had been to Franco's many times before and loved it, both under the original ownership and the new. However, it seems that it has changed hands yet again and not for the good I'm afraid. Although, judging by the November reviews maybe it is back on track again. I also note that late September/early reviews are similar to ours, which was very poor. In fact we left before the food arrived, mainly due to the extremely poor level of service we received with our drinks. We were out to celebrate my wife's birthday and to start the evening, the four of us all ordered double Gin Tonic's. However, it took 40 minutes for the drinks to arrive. And if if we thought the time taken to bring the drinks was bad, then you can imagine our disappointment when one of the waitresses brought four large dirty glasses with what looked like water in them. No ice, no lemon, and the mixers already poured in the glass, so no way to judge what level of gin we had received. When we asked about the ice and lemon they looked at us in astonishment. We assumed that they had none of neither, otherwise why bring drinks without the basics? It was like they had never worked in a bar/restaurant before and had just wandered in off the street. To make matters worse, they then arrived later with a glass of lemons and a glass of ice. By this stage we could see the evening descending into chaos and we decided to leave. No apology from the staff or questions, they just allowed us to leave and got on with their business. Very off-putting. We decided to try Killocks, which was surprisingly good. Unfortunately, that's another restaurant off the go-to list."
