"We dropped in for a meal on spec as I 'd noticed the New Management sign whilst out walking. What a lovely surprise! The new team have put their heart and soul into the refurbishment and have worked very hard and created a beautiful new look. From colour scheme to furnishing it 's absolutely first class. We were greeted by the very friendly and helpful barman, Lewis, who explained there would be about a 15-minute wait for a table, so we took a menu with our drinks and began to realise what was on offer. The focus at the new Black Bull is very much on food that is a little different and rather special. We were soon being shown to our table by Hannah, the Assistant Manager, who continued the warm and friendly welcome. Our order was quickly taken and starters arrived after a short wait (they do have to be cooked! . We had the Pigeon Breast and the King Scallops. It has been a long time since I have enjoyed food as good as this. Main courses followed a short break, Pan fried duck breast as my choice and Pork Belly and Sticky Pig Cheek for my wife. Both were, just as the starters had been, absolutely excellent, Finally, we ordered coffee and again it didn 't disappoint! All in a lovely evening, brilliant staff and superb food. We wish Hannah, Lewis and all the new team every success, they certainly deserve it!"

We were a walk in for a late Sunday lunch lovely inconspicuous background music, lovely cosy log burner, great ambience. First time since change of hands. Great meal beef soft and pink, we would have liked more veg but they can be ordered extra as a side. Sensible size portion and fab puds too. Fast and friendly service. Highly recommended.

We have visited the Bulls Head numerous times since it has reopened. We love the atmosphere and vibe that the staff have created and it is somewhere which is a little different to the other pubs/ restaurants in the area. The scallops, steak and the Sunday roast dinner are my personal favourites! Love listening to the live music whilst having a wine on the comfy bar sofa too! Ver carta

We called on our way home after a long journey home from London. The venue was rather quiet at the time but we received a very warm welcome. We only had a steak sandwich but the quality was fantastic. The steak was more tender than the sourdough bread, it melted in your mouth. It is a little pricey but don't let this deter you. It is nice to see the place doing well. I would highly recommend this venue.

Spent a wonderful evening there last weekend for a 40th Birthday celebration dinner. The venue has had a recent complete revamp and everything looks brand new. Great menu options made it difficult to choose! I had the scallops to start, then pork and sticky toffee pudding with dates. All delicious, on time and served by very attentive and helpful staff. A great new venue and we look forward to our next trip soon.

I visited the restaurant on a bustling Saturday night. The food was excellent- the Duck dish was particularly delicious, as was the Sticky Date Pudding. They had a great selection for the cheese course, and it was served with a fantastic herby butter and chutney. The live music was delightful- I really enjoyed the jazz vibe at the Bull's Head. We had a large round table in the bar area and received excellent service throughout the evening. It was a memorable experience and I am looking forward to returning! Ver carta

We have visited the new Bull's Head twice this month, and both times were fantastic! The first visit was for a date night, and the food was amazing. The steak and beef dripping chips were excellent. The chef deserves big compliments! Our server Hannah was also great, she recommended cocktails that paired perfectly with our meal choices. The pear sour was especially delicious. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we decided to bring our family for Sunday lunch. The atmosphere and food were wonderful, with live music playing. We will definitely be returning. Keep up the good work!

I highly recommend this place! My family and I came here to celebrate my brother's 40th birthday. The restaurant has recently undergone a sophisticated renovation, creating a wonderful atmosphere that is both inviting and lively. The staff were friendly and attentive. The car park was busy, indicating the popularity of the pub, but we were able to find parking nearby without any issues. The food was exceptional. We enjoyed dishes such as pigeon and duck with crispy kale, as well as a delicious sticky toffee pudding. My husband was pleased with the catch of the day. The service was excellent – this pub is a must-visit in a charming village. We will definitely be returning soon. Thank you, Bul...

"we enjoyed another very pleasant dinner at the Dog’ in pentrich recently. it is a very civilized but relaxed escaping area, and the type of place where people are miles for, for the culinary experience traveling and with good ground. eating is good. the dining room is spacious, contemporary and beautifully furnished with a relaxed ambiente. also the adjacent bar area is very cozy and cozy. we were warmly welcomed and immediately shown on our table. the service was attentive and pleasant, without being overlaid or intrusive. our meals were very pleasant and we enjoyed the selection of things we had (start, head and dessert). However, it seemed to be some unconsistencies with a portion size. with the appetizers the leek and the potato portion was very small a piece laek about two centimeters long filled with cheese and in a sea of sauce to convey the grasp of “more”. the crispy szechuan cauliflower and aubergine, on the other hand, contained large parts of the two components of the teller. similar to the net, the green thai chicken contained three very large portions of huh in different shapes: a large chicken breast as the main component of the Thai chicken shell, accompanied by a huge serving of shredded chicken in rice, and a huge Bao beer filled with a large piece of baked chicken. while the various components were delicious, it was just chicken overload, almost like three main dishes as one, and much too much. the same applies to the puddings we have chosen. the dog inn trifle was a huge bowl with lemon-rossel sponge, with white chocolate-creuzard, and celestial gel and sorbet. the yorkshire rhubarb cheesecake, on the other hand, was a very small roll of cheesecake with a puppy game of rhubarb sorbet and a few pieces of poached rhubarb. our meals were certainly delicious, and we enjoyed them. the hanger steak was cooked nicely after a discussion about it; it was clearly stated on the menu that the hanger steak was ‘Served ‘Pink or well Done’, but we were informed that it could not be ordered well. which condition is then on the menu? the dog is worth looking. it is in the beautiful and historical village pentrich, on the b1016 between the towns ripley and alfreton in derbyshire. we're coming back."
