"We had the most amazing few days stay, at the Grand Hotel, in Grasmere. We stayed in room 44, which was a Classic Lodge. This was one of 5 lodges, just off the main hotel. The room did not disappoint, super, comfy king size bed, bath and shower with Molton Brown shower/bath and hand wash. Breakfast was included. We had our evening meals in the hotel restaurant. All our food was absolutely delicious. We had a starter each. Classic Seafood Cocktail Dressed crab, crayfish, avocado mousse, lettuce Marie Rose dressing. Crispy Duck shredded duck leg, julienne of vegetables egg noodles salad with hoi sin sesame seed sauce. For our main, we had the, Chateaubriand Fillet of beef cooked to your liking, served with chips, roquette , heritage tomato salad, buttered seasonal vegetables peppercorn sauce. Perfect to share between two. Absolutely superb. Louise, hotel manager is so lovely, very welcoming, polite and friendly. Her staff, were so friendly, helpful and attentive. They couldn't do enough for you. We bumped into Louise just outside the hotel, our first morning out. She advised us both of a lovely walk around Rydal Water. We was not disappointed. Would highly recommend hotel Grand, and will most definitely return. Thanks for a lovely stay. Date of stay: October 2021"

Had dinner here three times and breakfast a few times too. I must say the food is always good. I highly recommend the Cote de Boeuf on the dinner menu. Absolute perfection. Service is friendly and efficient. Nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommended

This restaurant serves wonderful food in an elegant setting. The decor is clean and modern, in marked contrast to the building's very traditional exterior. Service was careful and attentive, prices were reasonable for the quality of the food (similar to other places in the area that aren't nearly as nice). Overall, an excellent dining experience.

My sister and I came for dinner last night…the service was appalling. The waitresses( apart from the small dark haired one) were surly and silent, only coming to us if we signaled. Not one word was spoken …,.and when we asked to split the bill, the blonde waitress sighed impatiently and snatched the bill back, clearly finding this request just too much. The food was lovely but spoilt by the rude staff. We were a party of 13 people staying at the hotel for several nights for our wedding. This has been an event in the planning for the last 18 months and Louise has been so accommodating throughout. From the very beginning when looking at choice of rooms etc and once it finally arrived Louise was exceptional in making sure we and all our guests were well looked after. We can not recommend them enough and will certainly be back.

Booked a meal here while staying at another nearby hotel. The service was prompt, the restaurant very bright and airy with nice views, and the kitchen was open plan and the chef’s efforts were there to see throughout. The menu had a good level of variation and we had no difficulty selecting a dish. The Chicken Milanese was perfect as was the Summer pudding. Not the cheapest restaurant around, but you get what you pay for. A thoroughly enjoyable experience and I would certainly return.

The food here is just great; we shared the homemade hummus, the lamb rump and a boeuf stroganoff (special of the day) and had a bottle of shiraz (La Mura, Sicily) to accompany that. All were perfectly cooked (and portions highly generous) especially the boeuf stroganoff was out of this world. The service was professional (they seemed to actually be happy to be present) and supported the ambience of this restaurant; bright comfortable spacious design and panorama windows with view of the mountains and river Rothay. This place makes you feel zen stuffed happy. We stayed at a B&B but managed to reserve a table here as 'non residents '. Ver carta

The food, setting and decor were all fantastic. We both had the lamb rump which was exceptionally good, decent portions, not a bad word to say. Gorgeous setting with stunning views and the hotel seems beautifully finished. However the service was very much lacking which tainted the experience slightly for us. Yes it was a quiet Tuesday but our waitress was abrupt, unfriendly and largely unavailable. We finished eating at 9 but the waitress had finished her shift so left on the dot and no one else was around so we had to get up to search out someone to pay. A tip was included in the bill, if discretionary I feel that the staff may be inclined to up their game a bit.

Just had a 2 night stay here with my husband and we can say the breakfasts were outstanding, with beautiful views across the gardens towards the lake and hills. There was plenty of choice and everything was freshly cooked to order. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection...poached eggs to die for! The service was excellent, friendly and quick. (I think.....but I'm not sure that our breakfast server was called Maggie) she was from Bulgaria..... anyway she was so cheerful and attentive. The kitchen was open plan and the 3 chefs we saw were very friendly too. We ate in the hotel on our second night but went out for our first nights meal but after experiencing the hotel restaurants food...

"We were sure to book ahead for a table of 4 for 5.15 as it was a late Sunday roast we were fully aware that not everything would be available so it was no surprise when we were told that there was only gammon left for the roast option however there was still fish and chips homemade steak pie or vegetable lasagne. We happily opted for 3 gammon roast dinners and a homemade steak pie with mash (you get the choice of which potato you'd like) The food arrived piping hot with plenty of everything and it was so so tasty you could really tell everything was lovingly made from scratch for the roast the potatoes came both roasted and mashed with cauliflower, broccoli and carrot and swede mash. A generous helping of gammon and a large Yorkshire pudding with gravy that was clearly made with the juices as it was so flavourful. The steak pie was brilliant too homemade with large chunks of steak and a choice of potato and whether you'd like the same veg as that with the roast or with peas. This also came with gravy. For dessert there was a choice of either chocolate fudge cake, caramel apple pie or sticky toffee pudding and you had the choice of either cream, ice cream or custard. 2 of us got it with custard and 2 of us got it with ice cream and it wasn't overbearingly sweet it was perfect with a delicious caramel top! We all thoroughly enjoyed all the food and the drinks and service and will be back again one day if we find ourselves holidaying here again"
