"You have to know where they are to get there, but the food is worth the effort. My wife and I lived within walking distance of Futo, but didn't know about it until a colleague described a business lunch she had there. We went for dinner, and Futo instantly became our "go to" place for excellent Chinese food, to the point that we went there weekly, and went there for celebration dinners with friends. We've since moved about 250 km away, but every time we visit Basel, we go to Futo. And we also buy a bunch of take-out to take home, freeze, and enjoy when we're missing such good food. This is not a fancy place, but it is clean, well-lit, and nicely decorated. Plus, the Law family is remarkably friendly, and always greet us warmly when we visit. He is the chef, and you can watch him in action through the large windows of the kitchen. His pork dishes are great -- the meat is very tender, with no gristle at all. I'm told that it takes him a lot of effort to ensure this, so pork dishes run out about mid-week. His black-bean sauce is homemade and EXCELLENT. But we have many favorite dishes -- from tofu in soja sauce to Singapore rice noodles to squid in a ginger sauce. He doesn't use MSG, and if you prefer your food to be less salty than the typical European likes, just ask and he'll cut back. For our special meals, we often pre-order his Peking Duck. The first time we had it at Futo was a revelation! I later had an opportunity to travel to Beijing for business, and decided that I had to try this dish in its home town. My colleagues and I looked for the best place for Peking Duck -- and yet, I found that Futo's was far superior!Mrs. Law is the face of Futo, and she makes sure that all their guests are comfortable and well-served. She is a warm and friendly person, making visits there so much better.Futo is generally packed for lunch on weekdays -- the local workers at Bayer, Roche and other companies near the train station are big patrons. So, get there early (11:30) if you're going then.At night, though, because there is virtually no foot traffic by the restaurant, there generally are tables available.Go Eat and Enjoy! We do."

the Kung Pao chicken I had was definitely NOT authentic. There were no chili, no garlic, no peanuts, but cubes of carrot, cucumber!

we had lunch today, nothing really outstanding, deserves 4 stars because despite the restaurant was full the service was very fast and the quality more than good. good choice especially for those who work in the surroundings.

on my birthday I was with my family at China restaurant fu to gassed. the food was very fine and the wetin was extremely loving and very attentive. the ambiente we found, probably a bit more cozy, i.e. the device looks a little sober and the lighting too bright. but all in all we can recommend this locally.

I always like the food they make. You have to try the Duck. The cook spends a lot of his time making sure the duck tastes fresh juicy and crunchy at the same time. Their butter lemon chicken is also just perfect. This is family business, very friendly. We come here for good foods and good talks with the owner as well. Lovely hours every time. Strongly recommended!

I've been a parent and I've always been looking forward to the new one when I can come back to the pleasure of the poulet sechuan. the restaurant is rather small and modest furnishings, as it is more set on take-away customers. over midday I would reserve a place because it will be very full. otherwise, super friendly staff, real China flair and super tasty eating at fair price!

Went there for take aways after reading on a forum that the restaurant was amongst a few in Basel to have an authentic Chinese/Asian taste/cuisine (Asian food is generally really bad in Switzerland, not much flavours). Ordered a few dishes and it turned out that everything was the same. As in cooked in the same basic random stir fry. It wasn’t even what we ordered. Beef Szechuan turned out to be beef with soja sauce and chicken satay was not satay (some red sauce but no peanut taste), just a rather dull taste. Absolutely edible but not worth spending more than 100 CHF on absolutely tasteless Chinese take aways (again welcome to Switzerland). The worst Asian meal I had here and I had many. An...

I’ve no idea how authentic the food is, but one great thing, was that all the dishes we ordered tasted completely different and were delicious! (I’ve been to many a Chinese restaurant where the sauces taste practically all the same and are doused in monosodium glutamate not here! It’s also a rather small but amicable family run joint, so it needs our support! The Wantan I started with, were the best I have ever had the pastry crispy but almost melt in your mouth and the filling generous and exquisite! I ate the “Cantonese Crispy Duck”. It’s just like another reviewer said crispy but fresh tasting and succulent I ate most of the duck without the accompanying sauce because the meat was so well...

because the restaurant is more in second row, it is visited mainly by masters but also new guests are welcomed very friendly. the interieur is not as exaggerated as in other Chinese restaurants. for this, a lot of value is placed on ease and quality. so it must be.We have already pre-ordered a pekingente on the day before and could actually save us that in the menu. Nevertheless, I was curious what could have expected us here. I was surprised how versatile the offer is. more surprised than my look at the prices. these are clearly below the average and this, as we found out later, with an excellent quality of the food. WOW.We got, as usual for pekingente, first the skin of the duck. I am not...

"Cheval Blanc is the ultimate classic French fine dining experience in Switzerland. We came here to celebrate my birthday while in Switzerland looking for a 3 Michelin stars experience. Located in the historical Grand Hotel Les Trois Rios. The riverside setting is charming and romantic. You start by a welcome drink at the terrace looking at the Rhine greeted by suited , polite and professional staff. The head chef Peter Knogl came to say hi before we moved to the main dining room and service started. The decor and interior is classy retro French with high ceilings, arches, classic chandeliers, large windows and round tables with candles. Ambience is warm and intimate. Service was top notch and impeccable. Staff were all knowledgeable with refreshing attention to details. Cuisine was modern french with Mediterranean influences, flavors were complex and dynamic. Ingredients were chosen carefully and courses were presented beautifully. I liked all of my courses, highlights of the menu were the Sardine Macaron, Langoustine curry, Red Mullet filet and the French saddle of lamb with mediterranean flavors. Wine pairing was excellent and enhanced every course taste and flavor. Sommelier was very professional and knowledgeable yet intimidating a bit. The French Cheese selections from Maître Antony in Ferrette was aromatic, rich and satisfying, Maître Antony is one of the best in the world that many Michelin starred Chefs get their fine cheeses selection from. The night ended well with a couple of delightful desserts courses, few delectable bites and some velvety chocolate. Overall, we had an elevated fine dining experience that will bring me back if in Basel again."
