"Disclaimer: I have just recently returned from Vietnam, but this review still holds truth. Ambience Different in a pleasant kind of way. It is actually tucked away in a little chalet on the outskirts of town. The inside is, well, a chalet, with a ton of buddhas sitting around. I think it could be nice to go for lunch and sit outside on the little terrace. The only thing that reminded me of Vietnam in the actual restaurant were the bathrooms: Service Very friendly, although not rushed Food My biggest complaint when you eat at ethnic restaurants that are claiming to be authentic is when they do not put the real name of the dish on the menu, but rather just a description in the local language. I know many vietnamese (and other ethnic cuisine dishes by their ethnic name, and I am often dissapointed when ordering something, presuming it is a dish that I know, and having it come out something completely different. A classic example would be pad thai . Everybody knows what pad thai is, but when it is on the menu as thai saute noodles with shrimp or pork or chicken , you are not sure if it is pad thai or any other of the many thai style noodles. So for Cafe Dalat, chicken with lemongrass could be one of many vietnamese dishes. Luckily, when I asked if the vietnamese crepes was indeed bahn xeo, I was told no, so I avoided the dissapointment and ordered something different. I ordered the chefs pork ribs (of which I had no idea how they would be from the menu but I was happy with the dish, although the portion was very small. My friends ordered the pho, with was a fine portion and tasted good, other than that they give you hardly any herbs or bean sprouts or condiments to put in it. All of the sauteed dishes were average, but all with quite small portions. Price I realize this is Switzerland, but still. For 30 CHF a plate, it would be nice to not have to go home and eat something else because you are still hungry. All in all, a bit too expensive for what you get. Verdict Would love to go back and have some beers on the terrace, and maybe have a bowl of pho (which were finely priced at 20 CHF"
