"I took my mother here just after mother’s days for a Mother’s Day lunch as a treat . As we walked in we were greeted by our first problem the plump of smoke from the meat cooking which Hoovered over us for the entire stay making for a congested atmosphere. Secondly when the food arrived it was cold ish but didn’t mind as we’re both hungry so we lived with it and the food was nice not top notch but nice . All in all a not bad experience and the staff are nice even tho busy !! Thirdly and here is why such a low star review. We paid for our meal and left on returning home I noticed we had been over charged for a drink we had not consumed . This may not seem a lot but a large glass of organic wine isn’t that cheap and added nearly £10 to the cost of the meal. I contacted the manager who apologised and reassured me that they would refund me .. great no issues there ! But this never happened and after a quite a few emails and reassurances they would make this right it still has not been rectified and now communication has completely stopped so still no refund. Very poor management and will not be returning to an establishment that takes customers money !!"

Not as good as last visit and now appears to have ceased trading . Noticed that smoke detectors were covered with a rubber glove?

Disappointing starters fine my friends had the chicken which was tough and swimming in a tasteless sauce. My husband and I had the shared sirloin which in our opinion was over priced half of it was fat.The vegetables where very nice though. On entry it was very smoky think you need more air conditioning.Overall very disappointed as it came highly recommended but sorry we will not be back.

Often drop into a pub for a pint and a snack on my frequent walks on the moors, but probably wouldn’t be going here again. Don’t think you are think your going to country pub, more bistro. There was only one beer on tap, no ciders on tap, despite lots of really good breweries in the area. Even had to ask for glass for my tin of beer. The food did look good, but definitely not aimed at a hungry walker/cyclist.

I ended up at the Dartmoor Inn by chance and truly enjoyed my stay and dining experience. The steak that I had here is one of the finest, healthiest, and most delicious I’ve ever had. The staff were professional, attentive to fine-detail, and friendly. The room was quiet, clean, and comfortable. There were plenty of exploration hikes across the street from the hotel and miles down the road. I highly recommend that you definitely stop to eat at the Dartmoor Inn, stay the night, and explore its beautiful surroundings.

Food cooked to order but took half an hour after coming off the fire to be delivered to the table. Total waiting time slightly over an hour and no explanation as to the delay. (4 burgers and one sole. The restaurant was quite empty and no one at the outside eating areas when we arrived. When the food did arrive it was barely warm, and the triple cooked chips were quite soft. £18 for a burger and chips. One person had sole which was quite dry and full of bones. Won’t be going again. Think MacDonalds would have done better at a fraction of the cost.

The area and the pub are absolutely beautiful, and when we arrived the staff were great. The room was very nice but you could hear every conversation from the bar below as if the person was in our room! So not as peaceful as advertised! Whilst my food was alright, several other diners walked out because service was appalling. And on waking this morning, we had no electricity or water in our room! When I went to find help there were NO staff to be found, I walked around the whole pub- kitchen included. Even rang the number on the website (no answer) Eventually found 1 agency staff who had only started the day before so didn't have a clue what was going on either! Would not recommend.

A most disappointing experience with the Dartmoor Inn at Merrivale. Having booked in April for a 28-30 June visit, I was unavoidably required to cancel. Aware of the booking cancellation policy of 7 days notice, my cancellation was over 8 weeks. Having requested a refund, the initial response from the Dartmoor Inn was positive, however after 4 weeks, three unanswered emails and three ignored phone messages, no refund was given. I was forced to approach my bank and submit a “dispute” which was resolved within 2 days, with me receiving my refund; no thanks to the Dartmoor Inn. It may or may not be a great place. It may or may not do good food. The lesson however I pass on is don’t expect a leg...

"Gidleigh Park is a country house located in a wooden wally in Devon. It is quite hard to reach the place on a very narrow road, which is very beautiful, but apparently during the winter larger cars can’t even get there. Gidleigh Park houses a two-Michelin star restaurant with Michael Caines as the main chef (the restaurant was recently voted number 1 restaurant in the UK by the Harden’s Sunday Times Food List 2014). Gidleigh Park also has bedrooms (apparently all individual in style and design) and you can stay there for the night and then wonder in the gardens of the estate, which I saw some people doing when I was there. I was visiting Devon and my boyfriend chose Gidleigh Park for lunch on a Sunday and we took the long and narrow road to Gidleigh Park. The inside of the house was very old and had a lot of charm. It had eclectic art and antiques and different style rooms, the lounge had different tables, chairs and the bar was done up in a completely different style. Gidleigh Park showcased British charm and elegance. You could chose to have their signature sample menu for £140/ person, but instead we went for the much cheaper version, their lunch set menu for £44/ person for 3 courses (you could also have 4 courses for £57). Also note choosing dishes a la carte would set you back £115, so the lunch menu seems like the cheapest way how to enjoy Gidleigh Park. We did not have any wine, but apparently thy have an amazing wine cellar. The three course lunch menu included a small appetizer, a starter and a main course and you could choose from one of the 3 starters and one of the 3 main courses. Our appetizer was “goat’s cheese foam with beetroot jelly, candied walnuts and granny smith apple”, but as my boyfriend does not like goats’ cheese he had a tuna tartar as his appetizer which actually looked better than my appetizer. I was not to"
