Atmospheric whisky bar in Dornoch Castle, amazingly well stocked including bottles from their very own Dornoch distillery. Fab place with knowledgeable and friendly staff. Covid compliance in place.

We were eagerly anticipating our visit to the whisky bar, but it turned out to be quite disappointing. The menu featured an extensive selection, but unfortunately, it didn't match the whiskies actually available on the shelves. None of our four choices from the list could be found: no Dallas Dhu, no Rosebank, no Tomintoul 18, and no Glen Elgin. In the end, it was easier to settle on a whisky we found in the cabinet instead. As a side note, after 22 minutes, my husband discovered the Tomintoul 18 in a different cabinet. Ver carta

After a disappointing start, we had a wonderful dining experience at Grant MacNicol restaurant on Sunday, September 19th. We arrived 15 minutes early, only to be met by a rather unfriendly receptionist who directed us to an empty table in the bar area, where no service was offered, as they were busy seating a group of 25 who had just arrived. However, once we moved into the restaurant, the atmosphere transformed completely, featuring friendly staff and outstanding food. We truly enjoyed the entire experience once we got past the dreary bar. We suggest that the restaurant consider having a member of their dining staff welcome pre-booked guests instead of relying on the bar and reception staff...

The dining experience was exceptional, featuring delicious food in a room that overlooks the castle garden, coupled with outstanding service from the young staff. I enjoyed the monkfish accompanied by purple potatoes and greens, which was superb and paired perfectly with a lovely Malbec. While it is on the pricier side, you certainly get your money's worth in both the food quality and presentation. However, I found the contemporary background music somewhat discordant with the castle's ambiance and upscale vibe, though that opinion might just be mine. The castle's bar is fantastic—a well-stocked space with large, cozy sofas around a massive wood-burning fireplace, which was just what we need...

Just popped in to try a couple of whiskies before dinner. Lucky to get the final 2 seats in the bar (around 7pm time Not being a whisky drinker we asked for advice and the bar man said he always recommends the local ones as not only are they good but they're also small batch.We took his advice and had a dram each of a bottle that had dolphins on the label from the Thompson Bros Distillery (just next door we had it straight up (the horror on his face when we asked for one ice cube : it was really very good. A slight burn of the throat but extremely smooth. We had time to try another, this time I asked to try a speyside. I smelt it and it was almost sherry smelling. 11 year Glenallachie. This... Ver carta
