"Came here with my Mum and sister for a birthday treat for my mum. Booked online and was sent an email asking if there were any dietary requirements/allergies. I responded to this and advised that I was vegetarian and none of our party ate fish....Upon arrival we were greated by a man who I think was the manager. He wasn't particularly friendly but was polite. I checked with him our request for 1 vegetarian and no fish for any of us had been received to which he advised yes. Our waiter was lovely if a little shy. We were offered a selection of teas by a lady and the waited asked if we were ready for the afternoon tea. I advised yes and again just double checked about the dietry requirements. When our afternoon tea arrived it looked great, however our waiter failed to advise us what each of the sandwiches and cakes were and as there were no menus we were left guessing. There was only one veggie option of egg. The other sandwiches were chicken and Ham (on a plate next to the veggie sandwiches) and to all of our horror some salmon sandwiches also on the plate. I called the waiter over and politely advised him that we asked for no fish and he went and took this up with the kitchen and came back 10 mins later with some other sandwiches which consisted of cucumber and tomato, guacamole and red onion and mushroom pate. What concerns me is I asked 3 times for no fish and I was completely ignored and had someone with allergies bitten into the sandwich (it had some red onions in it so was hard to tell it was salmon without looking inside) it could have caused an allergic reaction. The matter was resolved but I feel the veggie sandwiches should have been on a separate plate and the staff should be explaining what each of the cakes and sandwiches are which is common practice at most venues offering afternoon tea. Despite the mishap, the food was fresh and tasty, the ambiance was nice and the price was realisable although I do feel it's a bit cheeky to slap on a 10% service charge especially when you aren't even being told what you are eating! I would return, however please Grand cafe be more aware of allergies and dietary requirements especially when the customer has gone out of their way to ask for this 3 times."

Probably the best afternoon tea in Southampton. We've been coming here for years and it's always delicious with exceptional, friendly service. We thoroughly enjoyed our time once again!

we went for a henne party, we had the afternoon the most amazing, and more than enough we eat left over in boxes! they have also provided various nutritional needs in the group and feedback was also great. we had. an activity and the personal was really helpful to move tables etc. for us.

in the big caffe for a henne do afternoon tee. there were 19 of us and the team was so courteous. simply by email back and very helpful on the day. Eating was nice and great selection of cakes and sandwiches. music didn't work, but they did. have informed us and tried to work it again asap. will definitely recommend

for years they come here for the atmosphere of special occasion, but relaxed on Easter Sunday they organized our extended family from 17 to lunch, for a 50th anniversary for me and my wife. eating was demanding and excellent, service attentive, but not intrusive. everyone had a great time. it would not have been better. thanks to great cafe and all their employees.

we were a family of 7 adult, a 7-year-old and a 10-month old baby that my men celebrated 70th birthday. the atmosphere was great, eating was excellent and the service was also excellent. very friendly staff and very attentive that everything was to our satisfaction. one of our family was gluten-free and this was also offered without prior notice. would recommend this restaurant. many thanks to all employees in the grand cafe

Booked Sunday lunch here whilst on a weekend away and was not disappointed. Excellent choices available on the menu. We had the mushrooms on toast and the goats cheese and pear starters. The mushrooms were so creamy and tasty and the salad was an excellent...size starter. For main we had the chicken and pork. The chicken was so moist and the pigs in blankets tasty. The pork crackling was melt in the mouth. Huge portions with such a great selection of veg such as cauliflower cheese, parsnips, carrots etc. Would definitely recommend.

Today I experienced the best service, food and overall custom at Grand Cafe. I arranged a surprise anniversary for my parents for 50 guests. The pre arrangements were handled with extreme professionalism and great customer service. The day lived up to all expectations. The tables...were arranged perfectly to our specification, the food was delicious and the waiting staff were fantastic. We couldn’t have asked for more. My parents had the most amazing day and this was part due to the amazing service we received from the Grand Cafe I can’t thank Michael and his team enough. I would whole heartily recommended The Grand Cafe to anyone especially when organizing a large gathering as we did today....

Saturday night on a Bank Holiday weekend....the restaurant needed far more diners than the few who were in the room with us for there to be some ambience . The staff visible behind the bar at the other end of the room outnumbered the diners, at least before p.m ; perhaps more people dine later. The best thing I can say about the service is that not all the wait staff seemed to have been trained to a high level or were equally experienced in their roles. The first thing which seemed rather amateurish was to ask us to order drinks without bringing us a wine list. We booked this as we had heard a bit about the act on social media. They looked fun.There was of us celebrating a birthday, and you know, its always hard trying to find something different but fun to do.Some of the group lived local, some London, but the journey was absolutely worth it.The venue is easy to find, and park near to and is really lovely.
