"Firstly what a cracking tap selection, for the first time in a long time I wasn't just making do. I was spoiled for choice! Went for the Westerns in the end, but would of been equally happy with the mulled cider, Neck Oil or Old Rosie. I got the sandwich and soup, again it didn't disappoint. Portions are made for hearty Northern Folk and filled me right up. The wife had a tuna sandwich, again solid portions. Atmosphere was brilliant with a roaring fire in the corner and plenty of taxidermy friends adoring the walls. Which I appreciated the wife not so much but it is all in keeping with being the oldest pub in town."

Best pub in Bowness friendly atmosphere and good beer. The staff are brilliant, especially Becky and Leanne.

Great Place, love it, oldest pub in the Lakes, plenty of seating area outside as they don't allow dogs any more, which is understandable as it gets that busy and their paws would get stood on

We visited here last time we stayed in windermere and it has not changed in the 4 years since our last visit. Such a lovely cosy pub , very old but with all the charm. We couldn't wait to come here as soon as we arrived we headed here for a drink by the fire.

Came up to Windermere for the day (70 miles). We ate at the Hole in the wall. Two soups, lovely. One ploughman’s lunch (poor). Obviously using the Christmas cheese up! Certainly not what we were expecting, probably got better as the Christmas cheese ran out!!!!!

What a great friendly traditional little pub. We called one night just for drinks and loved it so decided to go back and have some food the night after. The menu is pub grub and most definitely worth trying, 5 of us went and all 5 of us really enjoyed it and the staff were all very friendly. 10 out of 10 from us.

Great atmosphere, warm and cozy. Bar staff really friendly and welcoming. I had beef madras, excellent value for money, plenty on the plate and very tasty. The wife had a vegetarian curry which was on the special board, she really enjoyed it. Been to this pub many many times over the years, has never let us down. Will be back for sure.

Tucked away in the centre of Bowness on Windermere you will find the Hole In T’Wall. A lovely, character pub, with centuries of history. A wide range of meals drinks are available for you to enjoy both inside or in the front beer garden. We enjoyed the Ploughman’s Lunch, one of my favourites, but if you have only a small appetite, you might want to consider sharing as it is vast! Thoroughly enjoyable with a variety of pickles, cheeses, pork pie, ham, salad apple … Enjoy!

"Staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. They were also very kind to our dog. We had drinks and food and though the drinks were good, the food was not. The words 'frozen ' and 'microwave ' were forefront in my mind throughout. The mash potato I had with my pie was face meltingly hot suggesting the microwave was used, and my wife 's battered fish was mushy and watery suggesting it was deep fried from frozen. The batter was also only about 1mm thick and was like wise mushy. The meat in my chunky steak pie was definatly chunky but was a little too firm (not tough, just not tender. Probably the wrong cut of meat rather than badly cooked). I then had the caramel apple pie as did another member of my party. While his was hot, mine was cold. I had mine with cream which when it arrived, had bubbles in and was luke warm. What I think happened was that mine was microwaved first and then drowned in cream and left to sit while the other was microwaved. This mean mine cooled in the cream while the cream warmed. It also meant that the pastry on the bottom went soggy, and from the rest of the pastry, it didn 't seem like it had much crisp to begin with. Now I know that times are hard and pubs like this can 't be expected to make everything from scratch, but there are 3 other pubs close by and unfortunately this one is doing nothing to stand out from the others, in terms of food anyway. Overall, a nice place for a quiet drink, but I 'll not be back for the food. The only saving grace was the price; £80 for 2 rounds of drinks (1 pint, 1 coke and 2 halves per round), 4 mains and 2 desserts...I suppose you get that you pay for though..."
