"We got more than we expected at Hotel l’Esperance, a small traditional hotel/bar/restaurant that is becoming less common in France. We parked beside the restaurant. There is plenty of free parking on the roadside but much of it was full. Restaurants seem few and far between in this area of France and are consequently very busy at lunchtime. The large dining room had a long table down the centre with men seated along it enjoying their lunch break. This was a real ‘Relais Routiers’. There were also a few couples and families at smaller tables to the side and a few customers drinking at a bar in the corner. The atmosphere was lively and friendly. A corridor led to very clean toilets, past some bedrooms and I saw through an open door that the bedroom was small but clean and tidy with its own shower. The lunch special offered a couple of main courses. I ordered cassoulet and my wife chose steak and chips. The friendly very efficient waitress returned quickly with our drinks and placed the starters on our table. We hadn’t read the board carefully and hadn’t realised that the set meal comprised four courses. We each had a small pizza and there was a platter containing terrine and pâté from which we sliced as much as we wanted for starters. The main courses were generous. The steak was rather chewy but good enough. The cassoulet would have fed a couple of people, with its beans, sausages, pork and ham ideal for a hungry lorry driver but more than I needed. The cheese arrived next on a platter from which we could take as much as we wished of the several types. By this time we were reduced to sampling as there was dessert to follow. I had a slice of tart and my wife had sorbet. Coffees finished off what turned out to be a substantial meal that took the edge off our appetite for dinner that evening. It wasn’t haute cuisine, but good simple comfort food and plenty of it. Tel: 03 25 88 42 16"

Excellent food and drinks, friendly staff. Starter home-made soup, main course veal with potatoes, vegetables and dessert ice cream including cheese board. Nothing to complain about. Shower also available (not used). Small terrace for the summer. Parking with the truck at approximately 500m (on both sides of the village). Typical French restaurant/cafe, nothing to complain about.
