"We stumbled upon a unique gem in Durham called Shaheen's. Despite a power outage in the area, Shaheen's remained open and welcoming on a cold and rainy night. Adam, the son of founder Bob, greeted us warmly, giving the restaurant a family-run feel. The food showed a genuine passion for family recipes, with well-managed spice levels and flavorful dishes. We tried starters like the fried onion, mushrooms and garlic, and a lamb kabob, with the kabob standing out as a favorite. The black dal was a pleasant surprise. For mains, we enjoyed the Chicken tikka, which was both mild and spicy, paired with brown basmati rice and garlic naan. Overall, Shaheen's is a homestyle restaurant where you feel cared for. We will definitely be back for more. Cheers, Shaheen's!"

The food was delicious, but service was slow. We didn't get the dish we ordered, but it didn't matter because it tasted so good. The decor was lovely hand made wall hangings

The restaurant offers delicious food and excellent service. I appreciate that they have vegan options available, although it would be even better if they offered a vegan naan option as well. Overall, everything else was satisfactory.

It's a good place to eat in. The food was tasty. However when I walked in it took me a good while to grab the waiteress's attention to get seated. Furthermore nobody asked me if I was happy with my food. Great food, service not top notch.

Excellent place, went there for the second time! Expect the service to be a bit slow, so not be in a rush to get somewhere. Food was freshly prepared and delicious! Especially recommend chicken (we tried the sharing platter, so there was lots to choose from) and baba ganoush!

we visited here on recommendation of a good friend, we booked a table in advance. we chose the plate, wasn't disappointed at all, much too much for both of us, but eating was really nicely cooked, all aromen complicated with each other. it was a bit tight in the restaraunt, a bit close to the next table. the food went quickly cold, but I put it down to be next to the entrance when the door was running. the beer was £3.95 a bottle, although very nice it was served in 330ml bottles, which became expensive after a few. I wish they would make a design! great restaraunt, great eating good service.

I recently dined at Shaheens Indian in Durham and was pleasantly surprised. I decided to give it a try since it is conveniently located near my daughter's college (Hatfield) and I will definitely be returning. The service was fantastic on the quiet Tuesday evening I visited - charming and friendly. This family-run restaurant prides itself on serving fresh, homemade dishes. I highly recommend trying their homemade chili relish, it's absolutely delicious. The madras dish I ordered was perfectly balanced in terms of heat level. Overall, it was a great dining experience that left me thoroughly impressed.

"Started off really well and went over to the counter and ordered a crepe with banana and Nutella and specifically stated no strawberries I also asked for a San Pelegríno still water as this was on the menu also. I was the first person to order and the last to eat in the end. I got brought my water over which was a cheaper brand water that I just paid £2 for what would I have liked to have seen ? We’ll when I asked for san pelligrino still water to be told that they don’t have that in. Finally my crepe comes and I take a bite and realise that it’s got strawberries in all the way through which I’m allergic too. One of my family members takes it back and says that I asked for banana not strawberry there’s a reason why I can’t eat it and didn’t want it on my crepe. Then 5 minutes later another crepe comes out that was my bitten crepe that someone had opened up and picked the strawberries out and put banana in. Disgusting absolutely … not sure if this was a mistake or just being stingy either way it’s not on. It then again gets returned because there is no way I am eating that and it gets explained once again there is a reason I can’t eat strawberries to which then one of the owners comes over to serve the correct crepe and apologise . I really hope a lesson was learnt today because cross contamination is not a joke. Please be careful when eating there. I didn’t get offered a refund but then again they were willing to serve me a bitten crepe again so it didn’t surprise me that much."
