"The welcome was reasonably attentive, and the service for our starters and main courses was acceptable. However, even though the restaurant wasn’t full, it was quite noisy. The music wasn’t well-suited to the atmosphere and, at times, was excessively loud. Little details like this matter. There were no soft furnishings or curtains to help absorb the sound. We found the food experience to be mixed. The starters were enjoyable, and my wife's main course was quite impressive, while my pasta dish was just average. The dessert menu was very limited, lacking options for coffee, dessert wine, or cheese. These felt like significant omissions. Overall, it was a mixed experience. We genuinely wanted to enjoy our meal, but it seemed to fall short, especially as service declined towards the end of the evening. At one point, we even had to fetch our own coats since there was no host to bid us farewell. In summary, my wife would recommend the restaurant based on her main course, but I wouldn’t, as there were too many shortcomings. I hope this feedback is helpful."

The food was enjoyable, but the atmosphere felt quite tense. The waiter seemed uncomfortable in his role, which didn't contribute positively to the overall experience.

I have no complaints about the food; it was delicious. However, the atmosphere was quite subdued, and the waiter seemed uncomfortable in his role, which did not contribute to a pleasant ambiance.

The restaurant offers a warm welcome and has a friendly, knowledgeable waiter. The atmosphere is serene, with soft classical music playing in the background. The view of Porlock Bay is stunning. The celeriac soup was outstanding, and the duck was incredibly tender and flavorful, paired perfectly with a good Veneto wine. We finished our meal with a delightful dessert and complimentary limoncello, which made for a perfect dining experience. While it's not the cheapest option, it is certainly worth the price, and I highly recommend it.

The restaurant offers a warm welcome with a friendly and knowledgeable waiter. Soft classical music plays in the background, creating a serene atmosphere. The views of Porlock Bay are stunning. I highly recommend the celeriac soup, which was fantastic, and the duck was incredibly tender and delicious, paired perfectly with a good Veneto wine. To top it all off, we enjoyed a delightful dessert and some complimentary limoncello, making for a perfect meal. It may not be the cheapest option, but it’s definitely worth every penny. Highly recommended!

We received a polite greeting upon arrival, and the initial service was decent, which I consider important. However, even though the restaurant wasn’t full, the music was not conducive to a pleasant atmosphere; it was occasionally too loud. This is a notable concern, as there were no soft furnishings or curtains to help absorb sound. Our dining experience was mixed overall. The appetizers were very enjoyable, and my wife was particularly impressed. However, my pasta dish was lacking. The dessert menu was quite limited, offering few options for coffee, dessert wine, or cheese. Overall, while we genuinely wanted to enjoy this meal, we felt something was missing, especially as the service de... Ver carta

"We were abused in here by loutish locals when we popped in for a drink mid-walk with our kids. The boozed-up local blokes sitting at the bar took exception to kids being allowed in their pub. They were swearing loudly and coarsely despite being next to children, and when my son literally tapped his seat with his foot, one of the louts used it as a pretext to turn to us and tell us to “SHUT YOUR KIDS UP!” He proceeded to loudly declaim the presence of children in the pub to his mates, swearing aggressively. The bar staff turned a blind eye, probably out of feckless boredom rather than ill-will. We had to get the kids away from the nasty situation so we got up to leave, not able to finish our drinks. I asked a barmaid to find the owner, who met us outside. She expressed apologies, saying that the guy was wrong and that this was a family pub, and we should come again soon. However, we were still effectively forced out of the pub by aggressive behaviour from a local drinker, and no attempt was made to re-accommodate us or refund us for the drinks we had to leave behind. The owner spoke to the regular, but he went back in to carry on boozing (and probably abusing) and we were left outside to be on our not-so-merry way. It was an extremely nasty experience for our children, let alone us. I know that some kids can be unruly, but our young children were sitting quietly at the table with us. It was evidently our mere presence was objectionable to the arrogant and territorial drunkards. I understand things are tough for local pubs across Britain, and regulars help supply a reliable income stream for them. But I think landlords should have a zero-tolerance approach to abusive behaviour, especially towards families. In my experience, I personally would not expect such a policy at The Bottom Ship, Porlock."
