"Dined here on Sunday evening, party of four. Seated very quickly, after about five minutes our waiter asked if we would like to move to a table in a quieter section as there was a family with a very young baby who clearly wanted feeding....I thought this was a very nice touch, particularly as we hadn't expressed any desire to move. New table was equally nice and we ordered two roasts and two steaks. All the food was of the highest quality and everyone had positive comments. The quality continued once we'd ordered deserts. Restaurant was busy without being overly crowded and everyone was observing social distancing. Never felt hurried, we were in the restaurant just over hours. All in all lovely meal, enjoyed it so much ended up making a booking for a significant birthday while we were there."

Food great, staff helpful and friendly, but long waits for taking orders, delivery of food and tableware. Staff training desperately required!

Great food and good service. Lovely atmosphere in this restaurant. Very comfortable. We had the course set menu as part of a spa break and the food was excellent

Stayed at the Mathu Belstead Brook Hotel and dined at their in-house restaurant. Food was lovely and came out piping hot. The only negative was the slowness of the service. Overall, delicious food and friendly staff.

Although our holiday was cut short due to the Covid lockdown, we really enjoyed our stay. The room was comfortable and clean The restaurant was really good for breakfast and dinner Really enjoyed the pool and hot tub Despite Covid, the staff were upbeat and...helpful throughout. Ver carta

We booked a table for one of their Christmas party nights back in March In November it was obvious it wasn’t going to go ahead and confirmed that was the case in December. Despite numerous phone calls and promises from Simon (apparently second in...charge) that we would be refunded our deposits. We still haven’t had a refund! Having worked in a hotel reception myself I know how easy it is to do a refund, but for some reason they just won’t give us our money back!

We called upon them to provide a takeaway buffet for a family birthday celebration and we could not fault it. It was like a massive afternoon tea. We had a variety of sandwiches, savoury eggs and sausage rolls and lovely chocolate brownies, Victoria mini sponges,...scones and a plater of fresh fruit. They even offered gluten free alternatives for one guest. Everyone enjoyed it I would definitely use them again as it was just wonderful to get on with the celebration. Thank you for making the day hassle free.

We are staying here do it was easy to dine here as well! What a very pleasant surprise to find ourselves top notch dining. It was fish all the way with my husband opting for the ‘prawn cocktail’ and me, the aged smoked salmon, for...our starters. Really lovely. Mine was combined with salad and pomegranate seeds. We both had the sea bass fillet as a main course. What a perfect meal! The fish was delicate yet full of flavour, tender and perfectly combined with the spinach and samphire. And we mustn’t forget Walter, a perfect host. Highly recommended. Oh yes, and by the way, we had roast meals in the bar yesterday. My beef was really rare and tender a delicious combination it’s hard to find. Ver carta

I, and a group of friends, have eaten lunch here on several occasions since lockdown was lifted. We have eaten from the Pensioners Lunch menu and the A La Carte, and have been delighted with every meal. The fact that we have returned so often...is testament to the quality of the food and the staff. On Monday, I tried out the afternoon tea. I have enjoyed afternoon tea in some of the best locations in Suffolk, and even in London hotels, but this was equal to some and better than most! Everything was freshly prepared, the warm sausage rolls were unexpected and delicious and Cornish cream is always a delight. I can highly recommend both lunch and afternoon tea....but definitely not on the same...

Quite honestly, the food here just gets better and better! I am sitting in the restaurant right now, trying to decide whether to make room for dessert or go straight to coffee a nice dilemma on a lazy Summer evening! I had the perfect...starter of Cantaloupe and Parma ham, followed by Two-way Pork with melt-in-the mouth pommes Dauphinoises and al dente green beans accompanied by an excellent Sauvignon blanc. Heaven!! Special thanks to Head Chef Vaas, and to the front of house team of Elvis, Zoe, and Bleona for their discreet but friendly service. Home for me is Geneva from where I have a number of Michelin-starred restaurants within a short drive. The Manor Restaurant can hold its own with a...

"Checking in to a hotel in an unfamiliar place, it is tempting to book one 's first evening meal in the hotel 's restaurant (unless, of course, one has had chance to research the alternatives beforehand . This may seem a safe option, but is often a mistake, as it was on my visit to Ipswich. Had I only known that a minute 's walk along the quayside would have taken me to Mariners, I should have eaten there twice rather than only once! A floating restaurant can often prove to be a bit of a gimmick, but Mariners seemed to get good reviews so, on night two, I gave it a try. A beautifully restored and maintained Dutch customs gunboat from 1900, with gleaming brass and polished woodwork, the restaurant offers a limited, but well-constructed, menu to satisfy most tastes. Being aboard a boat, I opted for seafood, and was not disappointed. There being an R in the month , mussels were a good choice for my starter, followed by a seafood skewer , presented with just enough theatre to be amusing but not over the top. Not fine dining , perhaps, but well-prepared, nicely presented and very satisfying dishes at reasonable prices. A limited wine list, perhaps a bit on the pricey side, but the Picpoul de Pinet proved to be an excellent accompaniment without over-stressing the credit card. Service struck just the right balance between politeness and friendliness. My fellow diners embraced the whole age spectrum (I was by far the oldest! weighted perhaps towards the younger end, the common factor being that everyone (myself included was clearly enjoying themself. There are many other dining venues along the Ipswich quayside that my brief visit did not allow me to try, but Mariners can be recommended as a safe and enjoyable bet."
