"I've been coming to this pub for several years and it is absolutely the perfect pub. Beer served straight from the barrel, always perfect! Delicious and perfectly cooked food I highly recommend the beef sandwich with dripping! When you see how many people travel a long distance just to come to this pub for lunch, it is the best advert they could have. The atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming, especially good on a rainy day! Now for the monthly supper club coupled with all of the above, Olwyn's fantastic food makes for a perfect night out. A different menu every month, made with great skill and passion, beautifully presented in a fantastic atmosphere. Olwyn clearly puts a lot of effort into where she sources her food, and serves it perfectly with her brilliant cooking. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a guaranteed enjoyable, fun and friendly Saturday night."

I am really just responding to the last review as this person is slightly confused ,The Queens head in Fowlmere has closed to become a Nursery however we are Talking about The Queens head in Newton which has been run by the same family for over 55years and is thriving, well run and adored so it is very much open for business!!

We have been visiting this pub for more years than we'd like to say. Passing down through the generations, it has maintained it's wonderful atmosphere. The soup and sandwiches are as good as ever (already perfect so no room for improvement) and more options are being added. A real pub and a real treat to visit long may it be so.

Such a lovely find of a pub, after a lovely walk with the dog we came here for the Sunday roast which was exceptional and especially the super large Yorkshire’s, local beef and I even loved the mushy peas! Olwyn it’s always a pleasure to enjoy the pub grub thank you!! A great little secret spot expect you mustn’t miss the food so want to recommend to all to enjoy. Can’t wait to revisit soon!

This place is great. It is a true country pub that does a bit of food. (I think they do evening food as there was a sign for that evening's event with food). We had sandwiches which were basic and wholesome and filled a hole. The beer comes in barrels behind the bar but I can't comment on how good it was as i was driving. However, it looked good and seemed t go down well with this that were walking. If you are passing on the M11 put the postcode in your Sat Nav and check out lunch here. Ver carta

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely Sunday roast yesterday in our local pub. Olwyn’s (OJ Catering) food is superb, her roast dinners are even better than we can cook at home and the Queens Head is the perfect pub to enjoy them in. Fantastic value for the quantity and selection on the plate. The beef is born and reared locally and it was cooked beautifully. Selection of veggies was perfect and there was a great choice of desserts. Thank you for a delicious and relaxing end to a busy weekend!

As if things couldn't get any better at the Queen's Head Newton, with the finest lunches, ales and evening platters, Rob has joined forces with Olwyn (OJ Catering) to provide a monthly Supper Club. An excellent four course menu is provided, with a vegetarian option. The food is second to none. Enjoyed a delicious cauliflower soup, followed by Olwyn's slow roast belly of pork, chinese style. Dessert was lemon tart and then cheese and biscuits. Excellent value! Rob and his staff,as always, attentive and friendly. Simply the best!!

We’ve been coming here since the early 80s but since we all moved further afield it’s been at best an annual visit. The place is perfect if you’re a beer and simple/tasty food lover. The decor is outstanding, unless you like new shiny plastic things. I’d never noticed the military models stuck on the ceiling of the public bar before today. We had beef and cheddar sandwiches, washed down with an excellent guest beer Vicars Ruin. If you’re looking for similar pubs then we only know of 2.....the Bell in Aldworth and the Cuckoo in Hamptworth. Both 100ish miles away. Ver carta

The Friday lunchtime before Christmas was a great time to discover this quirky, characterful slice of England. Some pals suggested that it would be an escape from the glitz and muzak and they were not wrong! The ale wins prizes and the no nonsense catering involves a team of sandwich makers behind the bar! There is a tradition of Green or Brown soup it is un named because pot luck rules. Our soup was distinctly brown with jewels and real substance (seasonally affected order? delicious and perfect with the rare beef sandwiches with dripping AND stilton with chutney. Perfect outing and a super quaint pub. Definitely worth our 70 mile round trip avoiding the hold ups on the A1 and M11!!

You have to go to this place with certain expectations. It is not a beer fest nor elegant dining it is about relaxing and taking it all in. When we want to have lunch in a quiet surroundings without worrying about time we go to this pub. Its about 14 miles away from us but we love it. Been going for nearly 40 years and it has not changed as the same family run it. They serve beautiful Beef, Ham, Cheese or Salmon sandwiches. Its top quality meat and bread. Also they produce a soup which is always lovely but varies in flavour. They do baked potatoes, pate, and sausage rolls. They have just started doing Sunday lunch which l have not tried yet. Thats about it food wise. No pretensions. The Beer...
