"We were in Newport over Christmas and went in The Royal Oak a few times. On Christmas Day we were given a free drink for our first round even though we're not locals. The pub is well laid out with a super fish tank. The beer is good and there always seems a lively, though not too noisy, throng of customers. The Royal Oaks menu specializes in curry, although there are also many other dishes available. The curry is authentically made, the menu even carries a warning that they use proper spices. The food was excellent, plenty of it a value for money. Went in with my family by chance for some food as we were on holiday in the area. Very accommodating pub, children welcome. Food and drink was lovely and well presented for pub food and good service from the lady behind the bar.
