"A lovely restaurant, we attended for the Mother's Day lunch. The restaurant is located within the grounds of Rufford Abbey so be prepared to park on grass (it gets very busy at weekends) and pay £5 to park (which is worthwhile if you are spending time in the grounds but not just to visit the restaurant). The restaurant is well signposted. It was quite cold within the restaurant as it is in an old building, with radiators along one wall, (high ceilings and old stone walls). The waiting staff were great, very attentive and friendly and the service was quick. They offered ice cream to my son rather than the puddings on the menu which was great. The food was lovely, I had homity pie and and everyone else had roast beef and yorkshire pudding. The pie was excellent, and I'm told the beef was delicious (not pink in the middle). The pie came with mashed potato and a roasted parsnip (one), the beef came with roast potato, a roasted parsnip (one) and yorkshire pudding. The table was provided with a bowl of veg which was my only complaint. It was the sort of frozen mixed vegetables you get with carrots, green beans etc. The meal was £19.95 each and while the plated meal was lovely, the veg was a massive let down for the price. I can only assume the yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes were cooked in animal fat as these weren't provided to the vegetarians but then to get a bowl of frozen veg was dismal for £19.95. Two puddings on offer, we all went for the sticky toffee pudding which was lovely (the other was creme brulee) So much effort was put in to the pie and beef, yorkshires and roast potatoes, the mixed veg stuck out as especially sad and out of place. It was half lovely, half woeful. I wouldn't book again unfortunately."

Went for Sunday lunch yesterday and it was absolutely lovely, not to many people like other carverys so the food actually hot when you sat down to eat. Very organised and friendly staff would definitely go again

Mediocre ok Sunday dinner. Reasonable price. Atmosphere just felt a little bland. Not a lot going on. Would go back, but would t be a first choice. The restaurant is really hard to find and you have to pay £5 to park.

We took our son and granddaughter here for lunch on his birthday, as he had never been before. The service was excellent, the carvery lunch and dessert were very enjoyable, and the surroundings were unique. We loved our entire experience. Ver carta

Previously visited several times a few years ago. Meat was nice although we prefer the beef pink, but the veg especially the roast potatoes were bland and tasteless…need to cook in duck fat or around the meat to add flavour. The parsnips were a little undercooked. Overall it was ok but had better elsewhere for the same price. Sadly will be my last visit.

I was the 3rd baron saviles butler so i used to visit rufford many times and of all the great houses ruined or otherwise in the dukeries this place is perhaps tge closest to me it is lovely to see what little remains of probably the finest house in the dukeries been used so well for visitors, a typical country house kitchen of its period but put to use now as a supplier of food and good food for the public we enjoyed our visit as always imensly a lovely place surrounded by lovely grounds we both recomend

The atmosphere at this restaurant is very dull, making it difficult to have a conversation due to the silence. The service is extremely slow, making me feel as though I was being directed like a child when going for the carvery. The staff, including the managers, lack the ability to provide service with a smile and seem very unhappy. The cutlery is dull, making it difficult to cut through tough beef. The gravy was watery, and the cauliflower cheese had a thin, possibly powdered sauce. The plates are small and cannot fit much food on them. Toby Carvery would be a better option. Additionally, the restaurant only accepts card payments, and splitting the bill seemed like a hassle. Ver carta

We had been considering trying out this restaurant for a while, so we finally decided to give it a shot. The dining area is quite spacious and unique, being the old kitchen, though it was a bit chilly for my liking. The menu is somewhat limited, as I was hoping for a bacon/sausage sandwich option, but ended up ordering the cooked breakfast without beans and tomatoes. Unfortunately, it arrived with beans on it, but the staff promptly corrected the mistake without any issue. The breakfast itself was tasty, although the toast could have been toasted a bit more. Overall, the food was good and the staff were friendly. I am looking forward to trying their carvery in the future, once the temperatur...

We wanted a nice Sunday lunch to celebrate a birthday and were not disappointed! I am going to honest when we arrived, I was a little unsure as small restaurant area. However service was brilliant and staff really friendly. They suggested that we wait until 2pm before going to carvery as it would be refreshed then. This did confuse us a little, but worked out they have 2 sittings one at 12 and one at 2. We arrived at 1.30 so chose to wait. The carvery was delicious a wide range of vegetables, giant Yorkshire puddings, a choice of 3 meats or a combination of them if you wish. The chef was lovely, helpful and couldn’t do enough to help. There is a choice of puddings, but we were too full to sa...

"I’ve just realised I’ve been visiting The Beck for over 20 years now for both drinks and meals with friends and family and I’ve never written a review! The Beck for me is home from home and I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve visited. They say a business is only as good as it’s staff, and maybe this is why The Beck has lasted so long with a reputation for a relaxed atmosphere good food and good service. The staff here are friendly, caring and professional, I’ve never been anywhere where I felt so at home as The Beck. Edward, Julie, Theresa, Kieran and not forgetting Trish in the kitchen make the place what it is! In 20 years I’ve never had a bad meal here, the food is excellent, and today did not disappoint. I was treating my parents and wife to a belated Mother’s Day and Dad’s birthday meal out, I had the lamb roast which was sublime and my dad had the blade of beef which in his words was “melt in your mouth” good! My Wife had a chilli and my Mum had the flat bread, which were also very nice and portions are plentiful. My daughter has Dairy and Soya allergies and wanted sausages and mash however the mash had butter in it so they made it with chips instead, she also cleared her plate! If you want to go somewhere with a nice warm friendly atmosphere and excellent food at very reasonable prices then The Beck is definitely worth a visit."
