"inside is dark and a bit dated. outside has a wonderful view of the river. the service was not very good with the staff a bit glued on! we were a party of 6 with a small child and had a table when 5. the staff was a bit unpleasant to tell us that we booked for 5 and now need 6 chairs! could offer us a high chair without the fuss! we have expressed the desire to sit outside, as they cannot book a table there to say very rude that there are no tables! total was eating moderate, but the service was not great, so will not be visited again.. many places around the river to explore"

"We usually love coming to Cafe Rouge in Henley, always a treat for us and we are always looking forward to it. However the most recent visit was awful and it’s been going downhill over our last coupes of visits. We booked a table for my father in laws birthday. Upon being seated, we were informed that 3 of the main course dishes were unavailable.. pretty much half of the ‘mains’ options. We don’t come to Cafe Rouge for Burgers or salad! We opted for 3 portions of Mussels as had them here before and they’re very good! Mother in law just had pate as there was nothing else she wanted. These were possibly the worst mussels we’ve ever had. You could tell they weren’t fresh (cooked from frozen for sure) and there was barely any sauce in the pot! Usually they are flavourful and abundant in sauce! No check back was performed by the manager on duty..it was a quiet Monday so wasn’t exactly run off his feet. So we couldn’t alert him. Even upon clearing we weren’t ask how our meal was! Just asked if we had finished. We decided to mention they were awful to which the manager told us he would inform the kitchen. When he came back to finish clearing, my partner asked if they were frozen or fresh mussels, to which the manager replied yes, they are frozen. Wasn’t expecting that but you could totally tell! They tasted like cardboard! We had a coffee and a pudding and to be fair to the manager he didn’t charge us for one portion of mussels and the coffees we ordered. The Bill was certainly not worth what we had. Didn’t leave a tip, which we never normally do, but the service was non existent. Manager was more interested in what was on his phone. Won’t be rushing back"

"Probably one of the best Mexican food I have ever had in the UK . Never had it beyond the usual chains so it made for a lovely change . Flavoursome and lot of heart . We then found out that yesterday was to be their last day ever since they were closing down . A combination of Brexit and the cost of living crisis energy bills going up over 5 times made their position untenable . Such a shame cos it would have been a wonderful addition to Henley . This review is probably pointless but know that one of your last ever customers really loved your food . All the best"

"This is a bijou gastro pub and our first visit. It has 3 bedrooms, all modernised and tastefully furnished with very comfortable beds. The rooms are quiet and relaxing. The staff were all lovely very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The pub has quite a large dining room in a new extension at the rear. It offers a set menu on certain days and an À la carte. We opted for the set menu as it was well balanced and also included a glass of wine, all in for £25. It was well presented and delicious. What's not to like? If you're working, be warned breakfast isn't served until 9:00am, but it's well worth waiting for as the chefs prepare it. As we visit travel down from Manchester to see old friends in Henley regularly, we'll certainly be back, always assuming we can get in. It was a lovely stay in classic rural location. Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5"

"Went here for a Sunday roast with family with high expectations given the menu prices. However, we all left feeling very disappointed and short-changed. Having all ordered the Sunday roast, we were served our plates of meat and vegetables for the table to share. The vegetables that we were served consisted of only 5 roast potatoes to be shared between the 4 of us, a small amount of cauliflower cheese, a few roasted root vegetables, and a small bowl of cabbage. I could maybe understand if the quality was very high. However, the 5 potatoes were deep-fat fried, and the rest of the food was below average. For over £25 per portion, we all felt very short-changed and left feeling we would have had a far better roast at a Toby Carvery. We have contacted them about this, and they accepted the service we received wasn't good enough, however, they don't seem interested in making amends, as they only offered a 10% discount for a future visit after we paid over £128 for 4 roast dinners and 4 soft drinks. Very disappointing experience."
