"Our party of 3 were handed crumpled lunch menus and though I requested a wine menu apparently there isn't one. I asked what was available and from the three first mentioned chose a Rioja at £21. It was acceptable. I chose a 16 oz rump steak. On being asked how I wanted it cooked I suggested that the chef would know how best to cook his product and that this would be ok with me. I was met with a blank stare. After two more tries I was told I had to choose myself so chose medium rare. When it arrived weighing no more than 10 oz, gristly and rather thin, it was dry and cooked hugely beyond well done. I can honestly say this was the worst attempt at a steak I can recall. My fellow diners restrained my desire to complain even though their meals (a steak pie and a thai red curry) were mediocre. No one bothered to ask if our food was ok. After a coffee we left. I am surprised that this place is still trading."

This pub is in a picturesque village and the servers were all polite. We ordered food off the light bites menu and the portions were ample. Will return

We've been here a few times over the last couple of years and it's always been great. Nice atmosphere, yummy pub grub and the staff are are lovely. It's always busy and it's easy to see why.

Second time We’ve visited and twice It’s been cold inside but hey ho didn’t come to get warm suppose, food was nice and only problem was the **** flies torturing me while eating. Staff a little awkward and miserable, young girl server pleasant. Don’t think we will return when visiting the area

Bank holiday weekend and out and about we were up in Durham and feeling a bit hungry thought only one place to get a good lunch so we had lunch at The bay horse. Good sized meals friendly staff and good carpark. Desserts really good and worth every penny.only issue deciding who was going to be the designated driver. A really good selection of beers. Well kept and tasted great. Definitely a place to visit and eat in. Ver carta

We visited the bay horse with friends for a birthday, the pub is lovely and homely with open fires and a welcoming atmosphere, 5 of the 9 ordered the home made steak pie (home made chips) the pie was huge with chunks of delicious steak and plenty of gravy, 1 x hot shot parmo, braised steak, chicken burger and katso curry, everyone enjoyed there food and the bill was very reasonable for all 9 meals, looking forward to going back again to try other dishes.

Went for Sunday lunch with family, the beef was very chewy on mine veg was ok wife had turkey which was nice and daughter left half of hers as was tasteless. We then had deserts which were nothing special dry and tasteless with frozen fruits apart from the chocolate orange are which was delicious. The eating area could do with a good clean lots of big spiders webs and was big spider on the table which my wife jump. Overall it was a very average carvary not badly priced but won't be going there again.
