Finally managed to get in here after several unBooked attempts. Didn’t have our dogs with us but Pub is Dog Friendly and has its own Car Park near by. Nice atmosphere clearly popular with locals Nice to see in a Rural location these days. Couldn’t fault the food Substantial Couldn’t manage a pud

We visited today twice. First day open under new management and after the loveliest lunchtime welcome from Karen and Amy we booked in for dinner. So glad we did. Food was exceptional. Interesting menu beautifully cooked and presented. Great atmosphere in the pub. Looking forward to the getting to know and supporting new team .

I stayed here for the weekend with my mum and we had a such brilliant time. The staff were so attentive, food was amazing and the room was super. We are definitely coming again! Even the dog was relaxed, well fed and happy. I cannot recommend this the bear inn enough. The staff were so welcoming and kind. We have already planned a return visit. Thank-you so much! Ver carta

Popped in at Midday as they opened on the off chance they could serve us Sunday lunch and despite being fully booked, they managed to fit us in for food (we ate outside). The quality of food and value for money was outstanding! If I lived closer I’d never bother cooking a roast dinner myself again. Everything tasted great, the veg still firm, the beef tender and rare. It was fab!

Had Sunday roast for three of us (beef, lamb and nut roast). Great service and the everyone's roast was perfect. The lamb was tender and the veg were really well cooked (the red cabbage was especially tasty).. The extra treat of couliflower cheese was a bonus and unexpected. Service was great warm and welcoming and very reasonably priced. This was our first visit under new management and ouldn't be more happier. Oh being such a lovely old pub in one of the prettiest villages in the area is another added bonus. Can I give 6 stars?

We visited the Bear Inn one Sunday as a family with a young baby and dog. One of us is a meat eater and the other vegan. We had a warm welcome , excellent wine and local lager to begin. They have a very good vegan menu but require notice for it which we couldn't give so we weren't expecting much choice, however they were able to offer us an excellent option, a squash wellington which was fantastic. The pork roast was also brilliant. Generous portions, good prices and service could not have been better. It was a gorgeous day and their little grassy garden with shade was a beautiful haven for both dog and little one. Absolute treat. Perfect afternoon. Couldn't recommend highly enough. Ver carta

Thought we would pop out for a bite to eat, pub very quiet (8 people in the pub told would be a 45 min wait before we could order, we thought although a little strange as pub empty no problem we will have a drink and sit in the garden… Drinks bought (maybe that was their the plan! after 20 mins was told it would be a further 30 mins at least until could even take the order! If we had been told at the start it would take 75 mins to order we would have gone elsewhere! With time now getting late leaving us no time to go elsewhere, if it was packed I get it … but 8 people in the pub!!? Really?! No offer of a starter to keep us going or anything for the wait. Very weird experience with zero servi...

We live about a 150m from the Bear and had become accustomed to taking supper there every week or so. The food and service under the previous tenants were superb. Therefore, as the previous reviewer suggested, the new tenants had a very high bar (no pun intended) to meet. We dined there just before Christmas and we were delighted. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. Alice and Amy were front of house and managed everything splendidly. I can though only agree with the previous reviewer on music and the fire. A lovely pub in a pretty village outside Stroud, The Bear Inn has recently been taken over by new owners. I understand from regulars to whom we spoke that there was some trepidation about their arrival, because the previous landlord and landlady had set a fairly high bar for food and drink. They need not have worried. The food at The Bear is absolutely excellent; genuinely good for a pub even in this area of decent pubs.
