The dining room has an artex ceiling with unconvincing wooden beams which is a shame as it 's a genuinely old building. The bar looks like it dates from the 1970s. The curtains look cheap and none of the furnishings look either chic or old world, so fail on all counts. On top of that the pub appears to be staffed by kids . It 's totally lacking in any ambience. The menu was very restrictive. There was no Sunday roast, although it appears that there usually is. The one bright spot is that the chips were very good. However, in spite of the chips I recommend that you book elsewhere."

Cheese and watercress soufflés were excellent, light and tasty. The chessboard makes the most of the outstanding local cheeses including Tunworth, Dorset Blue, and a local cheddar not to be missed. Very enjoyable family lunch to celebrate a couple of birthdays.

Mid week birthday celebration. Nice pub, staff are friendly. The dining room is fairly small with no soft furnishings and once full is quite noisy. My starter (fish goujons) and main (steak) were lovely, I wasn't over keen on the pepper sauce but it came in a separate dish so that was fine. I found the chunky chips a bit dry, if we go back I would try the skinny fries option. Unfortunately we ended up leaving rather hurriedly as my husband was badly affected by a strong perfume worn by one of the other diners, so I cannot comment on the desserts.
