"visited the pub after a long walk with friends on a rainy Sunday. the service left much to wish, was not made as if our paragliding was particularly appreciated and there were a few occasions where beverage orders were misunderstood, but eating safely formed for it. albeit easy on the pricier side, everything was clear from a very high quality. I personally ordered the beef burger, who was juicy and tasteful, and the rustic pub style chips were as good as I had in a long time. all my friends ' ordered the roast and these looked beautiful. as I said if it wasn't for the service. the pub would have got my 5*s."

"This is a fantastic, friendly pub in a beautiful location. The cheeseboards are exceptional with a wide selection of cheeses to choose from, probably around 30. They also offer delicious nachos and pork pies. The pub has a good selection of ales, wines, and spirits, especially whiskies, all reasonably priced for the quality and portion size. Additional parking is available around the corner. Rating: Food 5, Service 5."

"My wife and I visited this lovely clean Inn for my birthday treat organised by my daughter and Lynn the manager. The table was booked for 6.30.On arriving it was very quiet but of course it was quite early evening. The lady behind the bar gave us a lovely greeting served us drinks and the gave us the option of seating, as it was quite a cold evening we chose to sit near the wood burning fire. We indicated that we were ready to order, Lynn presented us with the menu and we both selected the Lamb trio. Lamb fritter, a miniture pan of shepards pie and lamb joint. We didn't have to wait very long before the food arrived my goodness the plate looked delightful, complete with 2 large pieces of lamb joint carrots, green beans and luscious gravy. I have to say that this was one of the finest meals I have had the pleasure of eating in many years. The lamb was cooked to perfection and slightly pink, the shepherds pie tasted beautiful and even a simple fritter tasted very special. In addition to having a fabulous meal perfectly cooked the Manager Lynn could not have been more helpful, checking to see if everything was ok, a real professional in the true meaning of the word. We live in Derby about 40 minutes away but I would definately make my way to the Fox Goose should we be in that area. Highly recommended. A big thank you to Lynn for helping my daughter to arrange this surprise and to the chef for making my birthday surprise lovely."

"I had wanted to try out this gastropub for some time and spend a few squid on some top notch food. Well it does not disappoint ! Its clearly popular and busy, the ambiance of the place is very inviting, comfortable and the many staff...very attentive and helpful. We had some calamari and garlic bread to start with and share, the garlic bread was amazing and reminiscent of the garlic butter found in french escargots, rich and delicious. The calamari was served with some lovely tartare sauce and hit the spot. Followed the fish of the day and sea vegetables. Flaky cod cooked to perfection, tons of flavours yet subtle and balanced. The famous fish and chips was beautiful and executed perfectly. Nothing more to add, it did what it said on the tin. Perfect. Now then for the spatchcocked chicken and chips spicy slaw). This was simply the best chicken I ever had said my daughter. Moist and melt in the mouth texture with just the right hint of thyme and lemon and a touch of smoky flavours. It fell off the bone and clearly had a huge amount of attention to details in the execution. Simple food executed as it should. We ran out of steam for dessert and shall be back in the pub section to try some out!. Many thanks to all staff and chefs, this is a must to visit and a box ticked (tickled? ; Until next time."

"I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant recently! While we were shopping in the area, we decided to stop for lunch at the Highwayman. The hostess was welcoming and friendly, and she was especially patient with our children when it came time to order (we had a young eater and some nervous teenagers). She even accommodated us with a dish that wasn’t explicitly on the menu. The service was efficient, and the place was very clean! The food was truly delicious; however, I thought the chips could have been cooked a bit more, as I personally prefer them soft and fluffy in the center. Nevertheless, they were still very tasty. I will definitely be returning! Oh, and the value for money was excellent."
