"We stayed for one night at the Bell, pub/ hotel. We had booked the best room as it advertised a Super-king bed. £170 per night comfortable but too expensive for what it was Also no body mentions during the booking stage it is upstairs and I have difficulty with stairs. Cameron greeted us with a friendly greeting and did swap the room for a shower instead of a bath. Unfortunately the room was over the outside seating area and there was a noisy crowd with very loud voices. So don’t pick that room in the summer. We had booked in the restaurant for Dinner. I had the Ribeye Steak with a small side of chips and some green dressing. Steak was fatty and tough.Greens had too much dressing. £36:00 didn’t realise it cost that much. My husband had a Pizza £16:00. One beer £6:20 x 2 desserts £77:00 shocked when received the bill. Then in the morning thought breakfast was included but was only the continental breakfast. Bacon sandwich was a charge of £5:00 and was very fatty as well. Will not be returning. Nice place. Friendly staff but just too expensive."

"Excited to return to one of our favourite pubs for dinner. It had been several years since we’d visited, and this evening was a little special to treat a very good friend. For mains I ordered scampi, chips and peas. First of all when you order scampi you would expect to receive scampi but no I did not. What was on my plate was tasteless prawns in bread crumbs. To top that, there were only eight of them with a plate three quarters covered in pale yellow chips, and a small bowl of peas. That for £17.00 did not go down well. My friend ordered, salmon filet with sweet chilli sauce, rice and Pak Choi. The rice and Pak Choi were stone cold. The salmon was nice. My friend struggled to enjoy her meal and being typically English did not want to complain. I, however and Mediterranean and if the food is no good then I will politly say something. I informed the waitress that the rice and Pak Choi were cold, which she kindly took back to the chef only to return it several minutes later steaming hot with the fish now completely dried out. I informed her that I was not happy to be paying for scampi only to have prawns which were tasteless, hidden in thick breadcrumbs and not been informed that the scampi would be substituted by the chef and not have the decency to inform the customer. My only conclusion is that the chef couldn’t possibly tell the difference between prawns and scampi. No personal came to offer an explanation, let alone apologise. The two waitresses were lovely. Daylight robbery! Will not return or recommend."

"In the heart of the village, the pub is great and the rooms are lovely and comfortable. The beer and food are great, especially the breakfast if you're staying over. An all around nice stay essential for Doctor Who fans with the Daemons locations just round the corner or anyone interested in Band of Brothers, as the real soldiers trained in Aldbourne. Rooms: Nicely decorated, comfortable rooms. Nearby activities: A beauitful village and famous filming location. Walkability: Very walkable. You certainly shouldn't be driving if you've had a few. Food drinks: Lovely. Noteworthy details: Round the corner from the filming locations of Doctor Who: The Daemons. The real Band of Brothers return(ed) here regularly to meet up. Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5 Hotel highlights: Quiet, Great value"

"we arranged a goodthe shave event in the pelican as it is our local, and it has come so far from where it was earlier. we had a mix of friends and family who participated in the event. some were local and some had traveled from yorkshire. at the event that I contacted with kerri, who was very accommodating and very flexible with our requests. we wanted a part of the pub to do this shave and also wanted about 18 people to sit together at the same time. To facilitate this process, we were asked to preorder what we have fully understood as it was a Saturday night. nothing was too much annoyed, they even have our macmillan balloons and bung (danke Scarlett...x) the eating and the service was on the place, everyone really enjoyed eating, obviously by the fact that every teller was empty. I had the coq au Vin-Delish! we then played bingo that had no problems with the pub at all. each had a great night and we increased £235;00 to our existing amount £1160:00. the bar was kept somewhat open about the usual time that was very appreciated. overall it could not have gone better and I am so glad that we had the event in the pelican, I felt that kerri and scarlett were very supportive for the event and thanks to their help it went perfectly. there are more plans a foot for the pelican, and if they have an event, I would definitely approach them as it could be the perfect place. thanks to all of the Pelli...xx"

"My family and I enjoyed a delightful lunch here in August 2023. I cannot praise the team enough for their flexibility in accommodating our changing requests over the phone as the date approached, including sending us a menu via email. On the day of our visit, we found the food to be delicious and the service to be excellent—polite, attentive, yet not intrusive. The main courses were both tasty and generously portioned (at least for us!). The pub and facilities were also very clean. I would be more than happy to take my family back again. The new management and team truly deserve to succeed, and I wish them all the best."
