The White Hart Country Inn

The venue was chilly. The food was cold and unappealing, many items on the menu were unavailable so the choice was very limited. No-one could make a drinkable Irish Coffee, what l was given was a joke ! As l was there as a guest and was not paying the bill l didn’t feel it was appropriate to complain... but was thoroughly disappointed and will not return.

Went for a meal on arrival was shown a table not the best as near a draughty door as people entered and left, despite being quite empty there were other better choices available. Then we waited and waited the bar was not busy and the staff not particularly rushed. 20 mins later it had become very obvious that we had been forgotten about to have our order taken, that was confirmed by the waiter. When seated was told what was not available on the menu, thus we ordered a pizza and another item. Four of us enjoyed lunch here on Mothers Day. The restaurant was busy but Gino had everything under control! We had a lovely table with comfy chairs and an extra cushion to hand for mum! There was a set menu but plenty of choice including roasts and other classics such as Caesar salad and Prawn and chilli linguine in a creamy sauce (my choice). The roasts were also pronounced delicious with very good Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes. We booked to stay at the White Hart because accommodation in the heart of Cambridge is so expensive and often does not include parking, making the cost even more prohibitive. The room could do with a little TLC and everything was on the small side (room, bed, shower) but it was clean and for the price we couldn't argue. And we were able to park here for free, unlike hotels in the heart of Cambridge. The food however was top notch. We ate here on our first night and I can recommend the crispy duck salad. Just visited for a Sunday roast for my father in laws birthday. Chose this pub as we used to come here years ago and we always really enjoyed the atmosphere and food was always excellent. Pub itself is still lovely and atmosphere and decor is really nice, waitress was very pleasant and took our order quickly. We ordered two roast pork and a roast beef. At £15.95 and £16.95 respectively it is quite pricey but probably on par with todays prices. We had a side of cauliflower cheese at £4. Really quaint little pub, friendly staff, extensive drinks menu and very cheap. We stayed for 2 nights as was attending a wedding, arrived and was checked in quickly, you get a key for you rooms which you can enter without going through the pub which is good in case you are out late. We had a meal on the Thursday evening and I was really impressed, I had a ceaser salad and profiteroles for dessert, my husband had steak, other guests had a pie and souvlaki, all came out hot, well presented and we didn’t wait too long. A real mixture of experiences. Spent 5 nights to visit Cambridge and Duxford for our Wedding Anniversary. Staff were friendly. Had 2 Meals in the restaurant which were good and the bar and restaurant was attractive. Parking Free B&B. Breakfast was only cooked which is something we rarely have and didn’t really want 5 days running. No cereals, yoghurt or fruit option which would have been cheaper to supply. Accommodations. We had the large double, bedroom I would say was small but the bathroom large with a large shower area. Both rooms had a lot of dust over the furniture and skirting board, needed some TLC. Nice interior with regards to the restaurant, but the rest does let it down, stayed here for three nights with my wife, daughter, and her boyfriend as we were attending a wedding on the Friday, accommodation was extremely basic to say the least and hygiene was borderline, you could clearly see where dirt remained on doors where they’ve been pushed shut, which indicated they hadn’t been clean for sometime, regards to the breakfast as this was in with the accommodation was okay, but it would’ve been nice if it would’ve been hot and not borderline cold, we dined in the restaurant in the evenings twice, but again, unfortunately was let down by the food one of the dishes we had was a chicken keba...
