"I booked the function room at the White Horse for my parents' Golden Wedding anniversary meal and the occasion was fantastic in every way. The room itself (which I was unaware existed until recently) is a great space, tastefully decorated and with its own private outdoor patio. Simon, the manager, and his team went out of their way to make sure the evening worked well for us, from providing us with a bespoke menu to arranging the furniture to accommodate us all (there were 23 of us, including several children). I brought a lot of my own decorations, but the pub put flowers and candles on the tables, which I thought was a lovely touch. We made use of the TV in the room to display our slideshow of family photographs. The meal itself was excellent we had several options for starters, mains and desserts. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food I heard many positive comments about it. Speaking for myself, the Salmon Gravlax starter and Sea bass main were delicious! The pub also provided plates and cutlery for the cake that we had brought with us. All in all, we had a wonderful evening and couldn't have found a more perfect or welcoming venue. Would highly recommend!"

Great Sunday lunch disappointed we couldn't finish it due to amount served and all cooked/served as ordered. Great friendly service from the team. Will definitely be back again soon.

I decided to stop by on a whim. The restaurant wasn't very busy for a Wednesday lunch. The staff was very friendly and provided good service. The menu was nice and they had a good selection of ales. The prices were reasonable. I would definitely consider going back again in the future.

We made a reservation for a family Christmas meal for six (4 adults and 2 children). The food was fantastic, excellent quality, tasty and cooked to perfection. The four adults all had turkey and it was lovely perfectly cooked. We all had crackers, hats and party poppers. The service was exceptional. So pleased we chose to come here. Ver carta

We decided to try this restaurant for Sunday lunch on a whim and were seated immediately. We both ordered the beef with a side of cauliflower cheese. The beef was incredibly tender and cooked to perfection. The roast potatoes, parsnips, and large carrot were all deliciously cooked. The Yorkshire pudding was huge and the bowl of fresh vegetables was a nice touch. Overall, the meal was fantastic. We will definitely be returning. Thank you.

Booked this for our Annual Family Christmas lunch. We were shown to the room upstairs. There were 10 of us including a 4 Yr old and a 1 Yr old so this was just perfect. The children were able to make as much noise as they wanted and we didn't need to tell them to sit down as there were no people in the room for them to upset. The food was really lovely including the children's menu. Most of us had the Roast Pork which was very tasty. My only complaint would be no crackling!!!! The staff were very attentive but also knew when to leave us to ourselves. We were not rushed and were able to stay upstairs for as long as we wanted. A really fantastic family gathering.

We’ve been to the White Horse many times over the years being a local favourite of hours. Our most recent visit however was not their finest hour! We were a group of 6, we got seated an hour after our booking time. The service (all round) was poor, the waiting staff didn’t seem to have time to take our orders, walking off before we had chance to finish! The vegetables for our mains came out around 15min after the mains themselves were served. There was more coffee in my saucer than in the cup. I’m made a comment about it but no apology, just a quip from the waiter! The final straw was we were given the wrong bill. All round, service poor however food was good (hence the 3 stars) Ver carta

As soon as I walked in and was greeted oddly I remembered the guy from a previous establishment. How he is front of house is beyond me. Anyway, visited for a Sunday roast. Ordered haddock chowder starter, received veg soup. Appeared they had given us the wrong menu but they didn’t address this, just provided the wrong dish. We didn’t realise they had changed menus until they were returned them to us to order dessert and they were different to the originals ones we were presented with. Roast beef itself was lovely but carrots burnt which overpowered the rest of the food and we weren’t offered sauces or anything so had to chase up. At no point were we asked if everything was ok. I won’t go bac...

We decided to dine at The White Horse in Baston with friends. I ordered the fish and chips, which were delicious, especially the batter and curry sauce. I highly recommend it. However, my partner and one of our friends were disappointed with the steak dish, which came with a pile of green lettuce as the only salad, a large mushroom, and a small portion of chips. The "cheese board" we ordered was not worth the £11 price tag, with only 4 crackers, a chunk of apple, a few slivers of celery, and no butter or grapes. I raised this concern with the manager and received a refund for one of the cheese boards. It's a shame because we have enjoyed meals here before that were worth the money. I gave a...

"The Stag Inn is a delightful looking pub overlooking the small green in the village of Barkston near Grantham. Internally the pub is clean and tidy with a range of two and four seater tables with New England shades of light blue on the painted table legs in the restaurant area. We didn’t venture into the pub side so can’t vouch for the decor in there. We arrived unannounced just after opening time of 12 and were offered a table with no difficulty. There was a menu of the usual offerings of fish and chips and a range of burgers together with roast salmon, chargrilled pork chop, a leek and cauliflower cheese pot pie, ham egg and chips and a vegetable lasagne amongst others. A specials chalkboard hung on the far wall and the crab and prawn salad with Mediterranean bread sounded so good we both opted for it. That was a mistake as we were to find out. The meals were reasonably quick to arrive and were served up in two large bowls with a dusting of paprika round the edges. What hit me immediately was the large flaccid green lettuce leaf draped over the edge of the bowl, together with a whole half-a-lemon that we each had. A small wedge would be perfect. The bread tasted sweet and was as far from the Mediterranean as it could possibly be apart from the occasional input of sundried tomato. What irked me most though was that the bread was delivered up pre-buttered with what looked like some bright yellow catering spread. A small ramakin of real butter between the two of us would work so much better. When asked if everything was okay I mentioned this and was told that chef would be informed. Having said all that the crab and prawn salad was full of flavour and sat on a nice mixed salad of red peppers, lettuce, red onion and cornichons. A word of advice to the wise….. don’t sit at the table near the restaurant counter as this is where the pub’s phone is located. On at least two occasions the phone was left to ring unanswered by the staff, presumably as they were busy elsewhere (the pub was by no means full) and was right behind my head! The volume of the ringer was high and it would have been a more pleasant experience for us if, firstly, it was answered and, secondly, the volume was turned down. On the plus side the staff were polite and helpful but the food not so great."
