"Turned up on spec with my other half last Saturday, wanting lunch. Amazing location and stunning building (definitely haunted, ace) and the staff were just wonderful. I am veggie and gluten free, so whilst options were limited, they couldn't do enough for me. I ordered a cheese sandwich and they came back and asked if I wanted a toastie, and it was stunning. Fresh ingredients, good gluten free bread (rare to find) and a nice fresh salad. The lady who was cooking was so attentive and aware of the whole allergen risk thing, even in a small kitchen. Plus both myself and my girlfriend commented at how bubbly and lovely the waitress was! Makes such a difference and really made the experience of just stopping for lunch a great one, enough to write a review. Will definitely be back as we only live on Anglesey."

Very welcoming, had to wait for table a short while, excellent food, couldn’t do enough for you. All fresh produce. Homemade lasagne to die for! Cream teas looked spectacular. Would visit again.

This restaurant is housed in a stunning building and offers fantastic service and delicious food. Carrie and Jane were exceptional hosts, making us feel incredibly welcome, especially my 101-year-old Gran who thoroughly enjoyed chatting with Carrie.

The Gluten Free lemon cake was absolutely delicious, lady who served us said it was made by Linda so very well done Linda. Tea comes with cup and saucers very nice touch. Been past many times but nice to finally stop on a rainy day and find it's dog friendly too.

An impromptu stop for an afternoon cuppa. What’s find, the scones were the best. Crunchy on the outside and crumbly on the inside. A really good cup of tea and a lovely welcome from Carrie and Jane. Not only did they make us feel welcome, they made out sausage dog feel very at home too. Thank you a real find. Enjoyed the wildlife walk too

I visited the restaurant for lunch today and I was delighted to see the Ugly House restored to its former charm! Cari and Jane greeted us warmly and were cheerful and welcoming, just like old times. The Welsh rarebit was delicious as usual, accompanied by a generous pot of tea and homemade scones and cakes. I will definitely be returning soon!

Thought it looked quaint so we decided to stop for lunch. So glad we did. The young man who attended to us and served our lunch was very friendly and efficient. Food was delicious . I had a ham sandwich (home baked ham and bread was fab) with home-made coleslaw, potato salad and chutney plus a salad. Hubby had Welsh rarebit plus the same accompaniments as me. It was so so good. Will definitely go again. Ver carta

After a long riverside walk from Betws y coed to the ugly house in 27 degrees C we were gasping for a cold drink The house is lovely lots of character and loved the information on the walls well worth a visit BUT …… Ugly price for small can of Fanta £3.20 each !!! So £6.40 to quench our thirst Did challenge the staff who said they have commented to the owner whose response was “They are paying for the ugly house experience “ Not a great way to keep people returning

We made a beeline for the Ugly House at the far end of our round walk to and from Betws y Coed via Swallow falls. I have wanted to visit for ages but never had the time or chance. We were not disappointed! The staff were so incredibly friendly, couldn't do enough for you. Very warm and personable. The oat milk flat white was top notch, tea lovely, cakes delicious but the best bit was the rarebit my goodness, I don't think I have every had a better rarebit. Perfectly cooked with a lovely salad, chutney, slaw etc. It was heaven! We took home a jar of the honey too which I can confirm is delicious! The grounds are absolutely lovely eco friendly, composting toilet. Absolutely set up for the futu...

"Whenever I get the inclination to write a review it’s usually because it’s so good and I want to shout about my experience to everyone… however this is not my usual 5* recommendation! As locals we have visited this cafe on a few occasions for breakfast or a coffee stop. It’s a great location, nice decor, dog friendly and delicious food. What’s not to like? Well, the staff, or more specifically the owner! She lacks any customer service skills, she smiles through gritted teeth, orders her staff around while she stands observing (or waiting for an argument . Each time we’ve visited she’s had an issue with something. Once she argued with me because I asked for my latte to be served in a cup rather than a tall glass. She proceeded to try and educate me on coffee making (I’m barista trained ! She reluctantly gave me it to me in a mug with a jug of extra milk which wouldn’t fit into the mug anyway! More recently we arrived, it was quiet, and chose to sit in the window (the largest table as we had our dog and didn’t want him to be in the way. She rushed over and demanded we sat at another table because she “couldn’t afford for us to take up a larger table”. We moved without an issue but she was very confrontational (as always and made the rest of our dining experience uncomfortable. So uncomfortable in fact that despite being ravenous we almost didn’t order. The cafe remained quiet throughout our time there, plenty of empty tables and yet she proceeded to use the larger window table to accommodate her staff, herself and a friend who popped in. How is that fair? So my advice to you as a fellow catering/ hospitality manager is… Learn from your Trip Advisor feedback, Book yourself on a free customer service course and lead by example and if you are worried about costs reduce the number of staff. 5 staff on duty in a cafe that seats approx 25 people at full capacity is not needed. Maybe the owner should put her feet up at home and let the lovely younger people do their thing. They all look so nervous around her and are almost too afraid to speak. I’m sure they’d do a far better job without her monitoring their every move. Even the Chef (her husband maybe? looks petrified of her!! Certain people are not cut out for customer facing roles and she is one of them! I’m pretty sure she doesn’t read any of these reviews as she’s been like this since my first visit 5 years ago!! What a shame. This place could be a thriving business and a welcoming village cafe but I’m sure her confrontational attitude and unwelcoming nature put people off from returning. Such a shame as the food and coffee are delightful"
