"We vowed not to eat at this pub again under it's previous ownership but, as we live locally, we wanted to give it another chance following the change of ownership. The pub itself is very attractive and had a busy and pleasant atmosphere when we...arrived. The beer (London Pride) and our wine were both good so far so good. We then ordered our meals trying to keep things simple with choices that should be easy to produce. Our main courses then arrived before our starters! When we pointed this out the waitress/manager whisked them away and produced the starter. I asked if the main course would be left to stand in the kitchen to which she replied in the affirmative. I. therefore, decided we would have both at the same time. Not once did we receive an apology nor were we asked if we wished to forgo the starter. Indeed, judging by the waitress/manager's attitude we felt that we were in the wrong for bringing the issue to her attention. Furthermore one of the mains (a lasagne) was not properly heated. This is very poor as I feel that this was a pre prepared/packaged meal that just required heating in a microwave. No offer was made to discount our bill nor was any apology forthcoming. Overall the experience was extremely disappointing. We may use the pub again to have a drink but I doubt that we will eat there again. It is such a pity as there is so much that is good or potentially good but customer service, attitude and food leave much room for improvement, or , indeed, a complete overhaul!"

Lovely pub, lovely place, shame about the landlady, very moody and didn't make us feel welcome, very surprised she has staff working for her.

This year we had Christmas lunch which was excellent. The Quiz night every Sunday at is a must. The quizmaster is one of the funniest people on the planet!

rude renter, freezer burned chips and dirt cup. waste of money. I'm not sure if stonegate has the right person to run a pub. I'll never go again and I'll make sure everyone I know doesn't.

we visited in the january to meet family for lunch. we shared many appetitzüglers who were all tasty and the large portions that was great for the exchange! beautiful cozy atmosphere and betting of everything, dogs are welcome! they even tried. would have to bring out my poshes. the two young ladies behind the bar were particularly beautiful, they were happy, attentive and could not do enough for us. They even ensured that the dog had a water dish close to it. we look forward to your visit!

I had lunch here after visiting the nearby Kenley airfield. It is humbling to think that many of the airmen would have regarded this as their local and for some of them, it would have been where they had their last pint. Very nice interior...with RAF memorabilia. The staff were all very friendly. Inevitably at the time of my visit there were restrictions owing to but these were not a problem for me. The food I think it fair to say is pub grub rather than gastro-pub but was fine and good value. I really enjoyed my lunch stop here.

rude landwife. saw us down, but would not serve us any hot drinks, as it would not even take full time away from their busty staff with the pub. where they are most of the time on the phone. we had a family with us and we are... barraced to bring them to our local pub after an icy walk. both we and the family are very connected in the local environment and will share this experience. I've never experienced this before from any device. we are local and felt relieved that the pub had turned a corner after years of negative experiences. Of course not!

my wife and I have visited the wading arms in the run of years often and I recently defended the pub on social media. we went to lunch today and came to the point of the midday to find the door locked. my wife grabbed the door and after a few minutes the renter opened the door and said rudely: "What is the emergency, this is not a sick house". the food (sausage and maic) can only be called mediocre. there were very few people there, but a great louder wounded man standing at the bar used foul language. he was clearly normal when he talked about the meat refine. I'm not a prude, but I'm opposed to hearing loud conversations that are constantly being paved with the “F” word when with my wife....

"I hadn't been here since my mother brought me as a teenager in 1965, when it was the Chalet Suisse. We were welcomed by a waitress seeing us coming and opening the door for us, ushered to a table by the window. We both had a fish dish, myself a crab-stuffed fillet of plaice, my wife a seabass paella with mussels. My plaice was succulently fresh, with a subtly spiced filling and sauce, The new potatoes were perfect. My wife is from a fishing family in Brittany so really knows her fish, and her saffron paella met with unconditional approval. The buckshee bread chunks in a basket already on the table were left, so I could enjoy mopping up the last of the lovely flavour of the juice. After polishing off the little extra pot of sweet potato fries, for dessert we had a special, Eton Mess, and banana cream profiteroles, which we swapped half way through, just gorgeous, and a filter coffee to finish off. With a couple of beers all for a fraction over £50 this was extraordinary value. This was no ordinary pub-chain grub. Every dish had something unusual and special to commend it, whether the spicy crab or the tart passionfruit syrup setting off the usually overwhelmingly sweet Eton Mess. This was proper cooking by someone who really knows their stuff, nicely presented but without fuss. Our fellow diners were all friendly and accomodating in a fairly small space, some engaging in jolly conversation with us. The service was attentive, kind. and unobtrusive. There was music but not overly loud and the atmosphere was relaxed and unhurried. I've heard this place mentioned by others before over the years and very much wish we'd made the effort to visit before now, our wedding anniversary. We will go again for sure, and take others with us too!"

"This is a small, very nice, non-chain coffee shop selling tea, coffee, some savoury sandwiches plus snacks and cakes. (Not to be confused with 'Smoothbean ' which is also in Croydon and also very good, but the two have no connection.)What 's good about it? It 's non-chain, so you 're actually dealing with nice people offering good service, not just wage slaves at the front end of a vast, impersonal corporation. The quality of the tea and coffee is as good as anywhere else. The service is warm, human, friendly and personal. The staff are efficient and helpul but also pleasantly informal. They don 't have a very wide selection of things to eat. However, what they DO have is all very nice and good value, whether you want savoury and healthy or sweet and indulgent. I loved the little 'bakesmiths ' cakes they sell that say 'made by hand in small batches ' on the label. What 's maybe not so good? Well, it 's not in what you 'd call a great location. Plus it 's really small. Upstairs (at street level) there are just two small tables and space for maybe five or six people at most (assuming some don 't mind sitting at the window). Downstairs, there are a chairs and sofas providing room for about eight people, although it 's a bit cramped. All in all, the think to love about Crushed Bean is the tone, the atmosphere, the fact that it 's small, friendly and informal and run by human beings rather than branded corporate drones intent on hitting targets. Go there at a not-too-busy time and you can enjoy a little bit of peace and quiet and know that you 're choosing to support a small, independent coffee shop and not one of the behemoth chains. Bonus good point #1: if you ask for your milk on the side, it comes in a miniature milk bottle. This cute touch should be standard practice but isn 't.Bonus good point #2: They offered me a free tea refill. Nowhere else that I 've been to does this.Bonus good point #3: They are right opposite Cake Box, a wonderful emporium of gloriously unhealthy options."
