"We visited this smokehouse due to the reviews whilst in the area on holiday, and were not disappointed! There are only 4 tables, so we booked via their Facebook page, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We had the biggest platter on the menu so we could sample as much as possible, and everything was absolutely gorgeous. We felt it was excellent value for money and really good quality. The platter was huge so we couldn’t finish it all, but they gave us boxes to bring the rest home and it’s all finished now. Special little family run place that is definitely worth a visit. It’s quirky, different, independent and fantastic quality. We managed to park right outside too."

"Fantastic culinary experience……… My wife and I, along with our dear friends visited The County restaurant, 13 The Green, Aycliffe Village, County Durham today, Saturday the 19th of March 2022). As soon as we walked in we were warmly greeted by a lovely waitress/ hostess called Claire. She showed us to our table , gave us some menus and took our drinks order. We all chose different starters and mains. Kieran, our waiter, brought our meals and we were not disappointed. Why?, because: 1) The food was well presented 2) The plates were red hot 3) The food was piping hot 4) The food was excellent, tasty and plentiful 5) The waiter/waitress Claire and Kieran) were super friendly, polite and professional, nothing was too much trouble. 6) The pub/restaurant was spotless, warm and inviting. A truly fantastic culinary experience. Well done to all at The County restaurant."

"Extremely rude staff. I was going for lunch and as I entered a woman cleaning a table did not even look up and simply said ' you will have to sit there ' pointing to another table! 'Actually, as a customer, I do not 'have ' to sit anywhere and so I left. As this was obviously a foretaste of the standard one would endure I am glad I did leave. I left a similar review on another site and their lame excuse was that they were 'busy '......really? This is their poor excuse for rudeness. Their staff should learn some manners and they should stop their paltry and pitiful excuses. AVOID......One just has to laugh at the nonsense of this poor deluded woman to say I would not be welcome back......No doubt this is how they treat people who do not care for their appalling food and service......as IF I would return!! I wont but environmental health will!!!"

"Limited parking but that didn’t deter the folks who piled in and out whilst I was there. Super range of take away meals. There was a table full of paper carrier bags waiting to be collected and they were. I had the FULL BREAKFAST, 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, mushrooms, beans, tomato and a buttered bread roll, All very eatable and tasted good, really good. Price on BREXIT DAY, £3.40. Price for on any other day, £3.40. At least 10 staff, working like trojans, all busy and professional. I will be back ! Good honest British food, no kebabs but you can get a panini. Go for it."

"Sunday lunch takeaway is outstanding absolutely gorgeous we both got turkey and the meat, vegetables, roast potatoes, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and gravy all cooked to perfection and the portion size was spot on! We also ordered the dessert box and my eyes lite up with delight there’s strawberry cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding and chocolate fudge cake all with cream and custard. Highly recommend this place for the food and the time slot and service was impeccable thank you."

"The restaurant has a beautiful venue with a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, featuring a combination of wood and coal fire aromas. The staff are very polite. However, vegetarians should check the menu before coming as there are limited choices available. The Italian bomb starter was delicious and full of flavor, while the garlic mushrooms with melted cheese were rich and fantastic. The hanging kebab was overpriced for the amount of meat received, and the naan bread that came with it was not useful as it crumbled easily. The teriyaki halloumi, on the other hand, was faultless according to my partner. Overall, it was a pleasant visit and I would return, but I would avoid ordering the kebab next time."

"Booked a table for 5.45. Five people, drinks ordered on arriving, friendly waitress all good. Food order taken about ten minutes after drinks served. Waited about half an hour for mains, not a problem as food was great and clearly freshly prepared. After mains waited awhile for plates to be cleared upon which desserts were ordered. All desserts were cold so didn’t need much preparation or cooking. Again waited about ten minutes and desserts were all good. Up to this point was having a great night. We were more or less just about to ask for bill , when lady staff member came over and told us are we going to leave as table was booked for other party of people. The time at this point was 7.21pm. We were a bit speechless as the only reason we were still in the restaurant was because of the service, which by the way didn’t bother us. Good job we didn’t have starters or more drinks. What a shame"

"Our second visit here didn't disapoint xx we were superbly looked after by Brandon who was very accommodating from the start !! There were no tables free but we were made welcome and seated very soon. We ordered between 3 of us ghe Italian station flat bread which was gone quickly as it was after 3pm and we quite hungry but its was very nice . We ordered 2 Sunday lunches and ultimate steak and fries and all of it was beautifully cooked Brandon was very helpful and I would highly recommend this establishment as a restaurant owner myself it totally ticked all my boxes thanks guys we will be back soon xx"

"Walk through Hawthorn Dene with my wife and two dogs with the sole intention of a bite to eat and a drink or two. We placed ourselves outside as it was a beautiful day and I went inside to order. The owner and staff were good craic and we ordered two scampi and thick cut chips and mushy peas and salad for my better half. I also ordered fish fingers and petit poi’s for the dogs off the kids menu and explained that to the staff. The meal and service was top drawer and the dogs receive their fish fingers on a plastic plate. The meals were spot on as was the pub itself which is decorated to a high standard and we will definitely be back."

"We arrived at the restaurant at 2:20 on Sunday afternoon. Despite being very busy, the atmosphere was calm. We were greeted and seated promptly. We ordered the Roast Beef dinner and the Roast Leg of Lamb dinner, both served with potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, vegetables, and gravy. We also enjoyed a pot of tea for two and finished with delicious trifle and pavlova desserts, all for just £31! The food was impeccable and the service was friendly and efficient. We will definitely be returning the next time we are in the area."

"Stayed in Beamish Park Hotel across the road 4th -8th August 2022 and after a day at Beamish Museum first day fancied a meal and drink How amazed we were with this place. Super friendly staff making all 4 of us really welcome.The meals were freshly prepared and extremely well presented.Cooked to perfection and served all together so we started and finished as a family.Even the local regular people made us all feel welcome and joined in conversation with us.This place was so good for the next three nights of our stay at the Beamish Park Hotel after a days outing we returned to the Causey Arch Inn to have evening meals and drinks, it was that good, the meals were outstanding and as always we were welcomed to the extent we were nearly classed as locals.I would urge anyone staying at the Beamish Hotel to walk over the road and try this place ,you will not be disappointed, but I believe impressed with everything from the atmosphere, the meals, drinks and local people who are genuine down to earth people who do not judge but welcome you as guests and friends.We are already planning our return and will give our custom to this place.Why go anywhere else when you have such an outstanding atmosphere staff, meals the whole 9 yards.Thank you to everyone for your welcome and service, we will see you again definitely."

"So....The Miners Arms; recently taken over by Michael Simmone. I 'll start with the deco tastefully done throughout with old, antique furnishings and an open fire. Theres a little snug at the back, which is super cosy. There 's a lovely chilled, relaxed atmosphere all round. The pub is dog friendly with a dog station. There 's a play area for children in the beer garden outdoor seating front back. There 's a large car park too. A reduced menu is running at the moment until the kitchen is fully up running. There 's still a wide selection to choose from, and it 's great quality with good sized potions. We 'll stocked bar with a great choice of gins, wines beer. The location is not too far from Ebchester boathouse and the Derwent walk, ideal to pop into after a long walk. They have live music advertised on their Facebook page, which I will definitely be popping in to see (not to mention the free shot and nibbles offered). This pub has everything you could want. They also do Sunday dinners, which look absolutely amazing."

"The service was excellent. We went for Sunday lunch at 2.45pm and I think service finishes at 3pm on Sunday. The staff were really friendly. Sunday lunch had a choice of beef, chicken, pork and roasted ham or you could have 3 meats for £15.95. Plus extra gravy is 50p per jug. The lunch was lovely, hone cooked food. I had pork with a gorgeous and light crackling. Mashed potato, roast potato, roasted parsnip and a separate turin of carrots and savoy cabbage (make sure to carefully pick out the separate veg because the bowl was full of water). The food was really tasty and the meals were served very quickly. The heat in the main room was Insanely hot, which may be an issue for some people. We would definitely recommend."

"The décor of the restaurant was satisfactory, and it is in a great location. The staff were friendly at first, but unfortunately, my experience with the food and service was disappointing. I ordered a chili beef burrito, which arrived cold and consisted mostly of rice. The meal was underwhelming and could have been easily recreated at home. The lack of attention from the staff after our food arrived was also a letdown. Overall, my experience at the lamp room was not what I had hoped for, and I will not be returning anytime soon. "First time visiting The Red Alligator after a few recommendations and I definitely wasn’t disappointed! Sunday carvery was exceptional (and very affordable) The meat was cooked perfectly and there was a fabulous selection of veg. It wasn’t really busy when we arrived and we were served by two lovely, polite and very helpful young members of staff quite quickly. After stuffing ourselves silly, we sat for a while letting our food digest, before ordering the best cornflake tart and custard Iv had since I was at school!! Would definitely recommend this lovely pub if you are in the mood for an excellent Sunday lunch."

"Our one-night stay was very good. We traveled from South Yorkshire to visit friends in Spennymoor and decided to stay overnight. The rooms were very nice, albeit a bit small, but perfect for a short stay. They seemed to be newly renovated as the bathroom fittings, large TV, and decor were all up to date. The bed was very comfortable with good quality bedding. The food in the restaurant was excellent and reasonably priced for the quality. The bar was also great, with a large TV and two more showing sports. It was quite busy on a Saturday night, but all the locals were friendly and there was a good, safe atmosphere. We will definitely stay here again when we are in the area."
