"I was visiting the area and berthed my yacht in the nearby Bradwell marina. The first day I went to the Marina bar and was very disappointed with he lack of variety and they were completely out of haddock. The next day myself and two friends found this amazingly friendly pub, The Green Man. There was a far better menu, the food was great and very reasonably priced. My friend had the cheek to ask for some salt for his boat as he had ran out and the bar maid came back with a full container of it from the kitchen! "Had a delivered ‘meal’ for one. Order was short but only by a salad dish so didn’t make a fuss. It was 28.50 plus a driver tip. The food was disgusting. I honestly can’t understand how it could be so bad. I cook curry from scratch at home 3/4 times a week and treat myself to a BIR curry when working away. I couldn’t make anything this bad if I tried! Truly horrendous! Never again! This is my second and last order from HT. The first contained a rotten king prawn but I thought I would give them a second chance. Big mistake! "The marquee was closed. The menu was limited, not as the web site menu. The cod was not fresh cod is white the chips were in abundance but floury and tasteless. 16.95 ! The waitress being informed we were disappointed, said nothing and walked away. The ambiance was spoilt by loud drinkers and gave the impression of a Friday night drinking hole. We left depressed and disappointed."

"I was invited to this quaint English holiday home in Maldon, Essex, and I must say, Chef Rob Horton's cuisine has truly flourished and improved over the past two years. The atmosphere is vibrant, and the focus on locally sourced, organic ingredients showcases the best of British produce. It's definitely worth the trip, as the kitchen is backed by a talented chef. The wine selection offers a variety from both the Old and New Worlds, catering to all budgets and generally providing excellent value for money. You won't be disappointed!"

"I and my man have booked a table for the afternoon on Saturday of the Easter weekend. the tee was a double firm for my nans 90th birthday and a late mother's look for our moms and my word we're glad we chose here! hayley was so friendly and helpful at my first question and went out of her to fit us and find out if the tee was for a special occasion. the food was absolutely delicious and there was so much choice that is unusual for a afternoon. each of us had a stand with a personal selection of sandwiches, scorpses and cakes that were selected by us from the menu that was perfect as we all have very different tastes. I've never known where to offer this selection! the tee was never in a short supply and we never had to ask for a refill that was such a refreshing experience from other afternoons! the teeroom itself is absolutely beautiful with a beautiful atmosphere that my nan especially loved the vintage memorabilia! the vintage cradles and embroidered serviettes made the whole experience even better! my nan was also very touched by the birthday card she received from hayley and the team, as I did. I cannot recommend the vintage rose enough and will definitely return."

"We absolutely adore seafood, so when we came across a tempting Groupon offer for a seafood meal, we couldn't resist giving it a try. We were familiar with The Jolly Sailor from previous visits to The Basin, where we had enjoyed a few drinks on the seawall but had never dined inside. Our first impressions were that of a traditional pub, with a separate area for dining. We arrived early and had a couple of drinks at very reasonable prices with friendly service. We decided to see if we could be seated early and had no problem at all. The restaurant section was bustling and packed with customers. We were impressed to see a table near us with about 18 guests all enjoying fish and chips, which looked delicious. Our own feast arrived shortly after, consisting of cockles, shrimps, smoked mackerel, crayfish, smoked salmon, whitebait, calamari, bread, dip, chips, and salad. Just when we thought we couldn't eat anymore, a pot of steaming mussels arrived at our table. The waitress saw the surprised looks on our faces and reassured us to take our time. The atmosphere was lively, the staff were friendly yet professional, and we absolutely loved the pub. We are already looking forward to returning in the near future. A big thank you to everyone, including the kitchen staff, for a wonderful evening."

"Have had some good takeaway meals but of late can only say they have been average and even poor. The premises also leave a lot to be desired, very scruffy and not exactly clean or welcoming and makes you wonder what the kitchen is like! Staff are friendly enough but prices seem to be increasing, nearly £30 for a meal for two, consisting of 4 papadoms, 1 Nann, 2 Main (Standard Dishes) 2 Pila Rice 1 Veg Curry. Veg Curry was disgusting and looked like frozen mixed veg fried up in a sauce. We are going to try the competition in Maldon and see how it compares."

"Had lunch at the Swallowtail with my partner and elderly mother. The view from the restaurant was lovely, looking out onto the yacht club and river Crouch. The staff were very friendly and extremely efficient. The food was fabulous. We had great starters and plumped for the sharing platters between the 3 of us (fisherman's platter and mixed chicken platter) the food was hot, fresh and very tasty. And although we all have great appetites we had more than enough delicious food. We did manage fabulous deserts. My mother is not too good on her feet but this was no problem as there is a lift to the first floor restaurant. We will return to try more of the menu and are happy to recommend"

"The restaurant is a lovely lay out! The staff were lovely, though it felt as though a lot of new staff didn’t make it overly smooth. However they were trying hard, just needed a lot of support. The dinner service was slow, which isn’t easy with kids, but we managed to keep them entertained during the wait. Food itself was nice."

"I was very disappointed with the service I received last night. I picked up my Indian for a take away last night as I got home and opened my bag to feed my family it was apparent that the chicken tikka masala dish was in...fact another dish a spicy dish. I phoned up to let them no there was a mistake and very bluntly told that I didn’t order a masala an that I ordered a dish I’d never heard of before. Instead of being offered a refund Or offered an apology I was told I’d have to come back and swap it and make the 30 min round trip again which wasn’t an option again at that time of night. The situation should of been dealt with aLot more professionally seeing as I’d just spent £53 Of my hard earned money on a take away which one member of the family couldn’t eat. Needles to say I won’t be returning my custom"

"I took my mum here for dinner on a very rare evening out. We chose this restaurant because of the reviews left here. Unfortunately we were so underwhelmed and disappointed. The negative experience started as we walked in the restaurant to be met with a strong musky, stale smell that was very unpleasant. The decor was in dire need of a touch up and the area was grubby. The window we were looking at had a long, filthy curtain that was pulled to one side up the wall with a dirty extension lead running under it. We were given bread as we sat down that was stale and we were unable to eat it. We both chose the pork in red wine jus and asked for it to be cooked so there was no pink in it but was also tender. When our server told the chef we heard him complain about this request. It is entirely possible to cook pork well but retain the flavour and soft texture. Unfortunately the pork was chewy and the red wine jus had not been reduced enough and so smelled and tasted of red wine. The vegetables had not been seasoned, just partially boiled and so the carrots were nearly raw. All in all it was a very disappointing experience. We were both shocked at the quality of food and the cleanliness and upkeep of the restaurant itself as the reviews we read were positive and the food prices per dish were not cheap. The food was over priced. To top all this off a 10% service charge was automatically added to the final bill, I can understand this for a large group of people but is not appropriate for just two people. Really sorry to say that we would not return."

"Its actually shocking that this campsite promises so much, offers so little and gets away with it.Firstly, the cost is £34 per night. Compared to a site nearby, offering beautifully manicured lawns, heated bathrooms, wifi throughout and a 24 hour warden on site, all with a similar cost, I thought Tollesbury would offer similar options.On their ukcampsite listing Tollesbury offers the following Wifi Disabled friendly Sea views. Recycling optionsNone of this is true. Wifi is only provided at the restaurant which is nowhere near the campsite The campsite is not disabled friendly. The toilets and showers are a very long walk away, in the restaurant and can only be accessed by climbing several stairs. The rules of the campsite also specify that cars should not be parked on the site, only in the carpark next door, again, a long walk The campsite isnt near the sea, it isnt even near water. It has a view across a boat/car park and some ugly solar panels. The campsite doesnt offer recycling bins as advertised, the only bin on the campsite is for ash. The nearest bins are in the boat/car park which is a very long walk awayIn addition to what is listed above the campsite also does not have hot water or washing up facilities. It has 1 water tap which the entire site uses to wash their dishes, their teeth and themselves. It's just a field, with 1 tap, some electric pitches, overlooking solar panels and access to toilets/showers in a nearby restaurant. You need to walk though customers eating in the restaurant to get to the toilets and showersOne of the main issues I have with this campsite is the toilet/shower facilities. Not only are they too far to walk to and accessed only by stairs, they are used by too many people. I purposely chose this campsite knowing it was small, only 15 pitches so that the risk of spread of coronavirus is minimal. Instead the showers and toilets are used by the campsite, the boats in the boat yard, the restaurant and all the boats in the marina.The site is also difficult to find, there are no signs and we had to ask several people before we knew where to go for the harbour master and campsite and toilets/showersWe couldn't find a water/chemical waste area. I dread to know where it all goesI have rang the owners several times to discuss my issues and have left a few voicemails, but they have not responded."

"Went to the Fawlty Towers of the pub world with the intention of enjoying a nice relaxing meal with friends. Very young children collecting glasses, 2 hour wait for food and lying staff is mostly the gist of this review. Arrived at 5.30 with a table booked for 6 and was met by (I assume) the landlady who must have just eaten a bag if lemons stating we could sit down but not order food until 6. One of the party bought an extortionatly priced round of drinks whilst we waited. At 10 past 6 , after being ignored by staff, we had to ask for service. The young chap that took the order was friendly enough but unfortunately as the night went on, relayed a never ending stream of porkies from the kitchen about our meals. Some of our party got starters but we stated we wanted our mains at the same time so we weren't waiting, a simple enough request you may think but oh no, not in this place. After 1 hour we asked about our meals and was told 10 minutes, in another 30 minutes we asked again and yep, you guessed it they said 10 minutes, after 2 hours had gone by we asked again and , blow me down they said 10 minutes. When that 10 minutes had passed we left. At least they got a few rounds of drinks out of us but I really didn't enjoy my 9pm burgerking. Trust me, give this place a wide berth. I did wonder if it was because we were obviously northern and had a Scot with us too as people arrived after us with local accents who appeared to be served before us."

"This lovely little pub is situated just east of South Woodham Ferrers in a village called Stow Maries. They have a car park, garden area and covered outside dining areas. Food here is very good and our favourites include fish and chips or beef chilli. Real ale oozes out of this pub with many different types to choose from, not to mention belgian beers, wines and one or two lagers. The coffee is also agreeable. Nearby is the Great War Aerodrome making the Prince of Wales and ideal place to meet before or after a visit there. If you enjoy a drink or two, overnight accommodation is also available. Sometimes there are one or two musicians to entertain you or fireworks etc. When in the pub, unless you are about 1.7M (5.5 feet) tall mind your head, as the low beams hurt when your head hits them!"

"We visited on a Sunday lunchtime in early August to celebrate a couple of birthdays. We had booked and were offered a table inside the restaurant (pub? which was all but empty while it was a nice day outside. We asked if we could be seated outside to be able to enjoy the weather and to watch the world go by. We were told very rudely If there 's a table out there then you can eat out there, but you can 't run a tab and you have to order at the bar . We did as we were told, trying to make light of the rudeness. To be fair, it was only one of the staff who had this unfortunate attitude. We ordered drinks at the bar and then our food There 's a 30 minute wait the rude server told us. Dressed Crab, Mussels, and a fish and chips. Turned out there were no mussels left, so we ordered another fish and chips. The food, when it arrive (not as long as 30 minutes was ok, but only ok. My mother 's fish and chips was overdone and dry. Mine was less well cooked, but still rather bland and fish was dry. The whole experience was rather disappointing. We cut our losses and left to eat an ice cream elsewhere. It would hurt any of the staff to crack a smile and perhaps a lesson in manners and customer service wouldn 't go amiss."

"We have used the takeaway several times recently with the last time this Saturday. The food was ordered and paid for on line and was delivered on time and was still warm when it arrived to eat. All of the food was tasty including the free salad which was surprisingly good for a free offering. We had a griddled Haloumi starter followed by Chicken kebab and lamb shish plus pitta bread and salad. The lamb shish was particularly nicely seasoned. Portions were large enough for two reasonably sized meals. At about £19 including delivery this seemed to be quite good value."

"The salad buffet was quiet disapointing as a lot of various potatoes/pasta salads too salty and full of mayonnaise. Only one choice of dressing. It would be nice to see more interesting things like hummus, beetroot, crispy onions, croutons etc. The main's carvery meat was really great and I loved the selection of vegs with it but some of it were left on pass for ages so the yorshire pudding the potatoes all was chewy rather than crispy. The best bit about the buffet was the desert selection! But was so glad we didnt go for the menu a la carte all the plates that came out looked unimpressive and quite expensive considering the size. Every tables around us were sending back their plates to the kitchen"

"We had the loveliest time here today! A table of 9 booked in, last minute. We had a few issues with the online booking system, but once we dropped an email we got a very swift and extremely friendly response, confirming our reservation. 5 adults and 4 children of varied ages. Staff were all incredibly welcoming and professional, especially Josh who was our main server. He went above and beyond to make sure all our needs were attended too, even offering to take a coffee order for us after our meal and bringing them to us in the outdoor area so we could relax in the sun. Food was fantastic. We ordered a range of meals and everybody was impressed with starters, mains and desserts. A great choice of food, from regular country pub fare to more varied twists on classics. Everything cooked from fresh and to a high standard. The children’s menu was especially of note. Very child friendly choices but still high quality food, generous portions (even for an older child) and the range of desserts was excellent. They were spoiled for choice and couldn’t believe their eyes when the food arrived. Having worked in the hospitality sector myself for quite some years, I’m quite particular. It was so lovely to have our expectations blown away and to enjoy such a relaxed and pleasant afternoon being so well looked after. A big thanks to the whole team, including the chefs."
