"I must admit that the first view of the hotel as you come up the drive isn't particularly inspiring as the colour of the walls is a particularly bilious shade of green in my opinion, but don't let that put you off. This hotel is a mix of a comfortable bric-a-brac shop and the bridge of the Star Ship Enterprise! You step into an old-fashioned, comfy hotel with knick-knacs everywhere, squashy sofas, a real log fire and a seriously impressive display of whisky, then enter the bedroom where the light turns on automatically when you open the door, the window blind (amongst other things, can be operated from the electric control panel by your bed, there is a nightlight not only in the room, but in the bathroom, and the beds are really, really comfortable. Oh, and you have your own doorbell as well! Even the Do Not Disturb/Room Free signs are discreet lights on a panel outside the door. We stayed for two nights and ate at the hotel both nights. The food was very good, with a short-ish menu but a decent choice to cover most tastes. The one downside was the service which was appallingly slow. The staff themselves were very pleasant, but the wait between courses was close to unacceptable. That was the only downside however, and if we make it to Orkney again will certainly be looking to stay here."
