"We were staying in a near by hotel and wanted an early dinner so booked here. We were gerated by a lovely young lady given a menu which we read with delight while she bought us our drinks. Hubby ordered Pierogi with chicken and pork, huge tasty portion, I ordered Beetroot soup with mini dumplings of cabbage and mushrooms delicious. To follow I had the stewd pork on potato pancakes which defeated me, and hubby had breaded chicken fillet with mashed potatoes and the most amazing vegetable salad, he hates veg normally but lived these and he was also defeated, shame because he wanted to try creps for dessert. We live 50 miles away but when in the area will definitely return for another early dinner (they close at 8) car parking just a few minutes away clean and very reasonably priced."

"A slightly bizarre experience we were welcomed warmly, taken to our table, and given a menu for pre dinner drinks. No food menus were brought. We ordered drinks, which arrived, but still no menus! So we asked for them. No wine list brought. So we asked for one. All rather odd. The starters were mixed a bland crab risotto, a rather vinegary tartare, an excellent parfait and a crispy egg which needed to be runnier, but was tasty, if too salty. The odd service continued: three of the four of us had finished do the waiter cleared our plates including the one of our friend who hadn’t finished, who was left holding a cracker in her hand! The mains were again mixed and generally over salty. The ravioli were excellent; the steak good but in a sauce which was heavy handed on the seasoning, the fish pleasant, again slightly salty and verging on the overcooked. We had chocolate soufflé for pudding generally well made and tasty, but again the service was odd an ice cream was pushed into it at the table by the waiter which caused a good amount of soufflé to fall inelegantly onto the serving plate; the cheese plate was an interesting but small selection of well kept cheese. Good petit fours (though we were surprised that one containing nuts was offered to us all despite one of us not eating nuts, which we had mentioned). So probably four stars over all, but only just. It’s good to see the restaurant open again but based on this experience, while it’s fine dining, it’s got some way to go to reach the standard of cooking I’m sure they’d like to aspire to."

"This restaurant is very elegant. The service was superb and the atmosphere was delightful. We were able to find a free off-road parking space. The dining experience was excellent with a variety of delicious dishes to choose from. The recommended dishes include Caesar Salad, Skinny Fries, Tempura Prawns with Sweet Chilli Dip, Baby Back Ribs with Barbecue Sauce, and Bread with Butter and Olive Oil. The restaurant has plenty of parking options, all free of charge. Overall, highly recommended."

"Friendly, efficient, hearty food and a good range of drinks, plus great tables inside and out. I regularly stop for a coffee when walking past with the dog, and they'll make it easy bring the menu out, or even recognize me and immediately bring out an espresso and the payment machine, so I don't need to do anything other than watch the world walk by (no cars as it's on the pedestrian area). If I'm hungry or hungover, there's the big breakfast for a reasonable price, or a mix of hot or cold meze. No airs and graces, just an honest, good café."

"My partner and I had a 2-night stay at this restaurant and hotel (Saturday to Monday) and everything about it was perfect. The rooms were modern, spacious, and extremely clean. The staff was kind, friendly, and very helpful. The food was fantastic and the service was also excellent. The location was ideal, in the heart of a peaceful village where we didn't hear a single car pass by. We visited Harry Potter World, which was only a 30-minute drive away, as well as Whipsnade Zoo, which was only a 35-minute drive. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel and restaurant to anyone."

"Disappointing. It felt a bit stark when we walked in; a bit canteen like. It was so echoey. The tables and menus felt sticky/dirty. The starters were really small and having to keep my used cutlery for the main was just not right: why take the side plates? Am I really supposed to place them back on the table?? The drinks were very expensive, is this due to not having a liquor licence? The food was ok, but the takeaways I've had from here have tasted better, which I don't understand."

And despite being busy, service was very good as well. Finally, I appreciated their free wi fi. Photo 1 is pilau rice, keema naan, sag aloo and chicken tikka dhansak. "Firstly I'm from Leicester and I have worked at 2 of the top 5 restaurants in the late 80s. We walked in and the first thing we were told was we close at 2.30. man with stubble) From the start we were felt rushed. Then on asking if they do hot drinks I was told no but I'll come back to that later. He bought a straw for my granddaughter, after dropping the straw he still gave the same straw. This leads me to believe, if dry food was dropped it would still be served. I'm a reviewer and I do review good or bad. We had a different person taking our order older chap with less hair. He was more helpful and did not rush us. Food ranged average to below average. Prawns were very tasty. When we finish the first person bought my granddaughter chocolates. I paid at the counter to the third person. Just before I left I saw a coffee machine. I asked him if they did coffee and he replied with a yes. Originally I was scoring a 1. The person who took our order improved the score. If they don't want customers in the last hour they should close the door."

"To see the help in apron ,drinking tea at one of the set dining tables was not a good look, going in. The soup was good, but the steak and kidney pie, supposedly home-made ,had very soggy pastry ,similarly ,soggy crumble on the dessert. So, not very satisfactory. The other first course was scallops which were rather rubbery. The main course of Scampi was delicious...the scampi light and juicy, home-made tartare sauce and a substantial salad. A great pity that the food was so uneven ,we want to support our pubs in these difficult times, but this was very disappointing."

"We have been coming to VITA for years as the SERVICE THE FOOD has always been TOP CLASS however our most recent visit was like being part of the cast in a episode of FAWLTY TOWERS.We were NOT GREETED on arrival as the staff were ARGUING about someone’s order.Eventually we were taken upstairs to our table to which had no cutlery on it and not even wiped down . We like a restaurant with a good ATMOSPHERE but not due to the fact not bothering to replace BLOWN LIGHTBULBS.There we’re just 3 light bulbs covering the upstairs. Eventually the table was set from retrieving cutlery from other tables. There was always lovely WHITE TABLE CLOTHS on the tables a lit candle and a small flower arrangement this is all been replaced by DIRTY TABLES. After about 20 minutes we were asked if we would like a drink. The selection of DRINKS is very POOR now . We were given our menus and made our selection. One of the meals was wrong. Parts of the meals were OF POOR QUALITY ie Italian sausage pasta meal is now ROLLED-UP MINCE MEAT. People on the other table were disappointed by the quality of there meals and their meal was wrong. At this point we couldn’t wait to leave. Then we were informed that it’s CASH ONLY. We couldn’t believe it my husband had to go outside and find a cash point machine. Seems to me you only want cash if your RUNNING THE BUSINESS INTO THE GROUND so that you can RUN OFF WITH THE MONEY and the TAX MAN doesn’t know where the money is . Normally we would go back to this restaurant as everybody has a off night but we don’t think it will be open much longer"

"First time eating from The Lemon Plaice this evening but would highly recommend it. Very impressed with the quality of the chips fresh, non greasy, and quite light and fluffy (with the odd crunchy chip). It will probably become my local, go to chippy now and without exaggerating or speaking too soon would say they serve the best chips in the Welwyn/WGC area."

"I love the food here, and the welcome is warm. When I want something well cooked, tasty and honest and, let's face it, a bit French this is my recommendation. Booking is advisable as there are a limited number of tables, although there are private rooms for larger parties. In summer you can eat outside, if the noise of the motorway nearby doesn't bother you (it is a constant rumble which some might find off putting). There's a safe little children's play area with a slide, and there are lovely walks around Ayot Green and Brocket Hall golf course on the doorstep."

"Went for my sons birthday lunch and my wife's and my pizza was disgusting. Mine was absolutely swimming in garlic oil so much that it was dripping onto the plate. My wife ate half of hers and didn't want to send hers back but I had to have another on a classic base as the Romana base was like a wet cloth. The replacement pizza was actually good as I requested no garlic oil so it held together. The manager knew I had asked for a replacement but just looked over and did not even bother to come to the table to enquire or apologize which he never does so I don't really see the point on him being there. Don't have the espresso as the coffee machine needs recalibrating and was probably the worse I have ever tasted so this was removed from the bill and again the pointless manager did not even bother coming to our table . This is a shame as some of the staff are really helpful and polite especially the young girl that took our order and brought over our son's birthday cake . After having to recook my pizza I wasn't even offered a discount or any complimentary drinks as this was my sons birthday and we actually ended up eating separately. I am starting to loose patience with wgc pizza express I only hope that they actually take feedback as constructive and make positive changes."

"Beautiful building, comfortable good bar staff and waitress 's. But lacking in fine details.... Table that was allocated to us was sticky from what turned out to be poor varnish. Management knew about it BUT still put paying customers onto a table that they stuck to, damaging clothing and spoiling a special night. Management need to spend time with staff, showing how to serve a guest. Customer service is dying in this industry and it is one thing that will save and help expand a business. The food quality was OK, but the chef wanted to present a picture on a plate before ensuring the ingredients where cooked and flavoured well. Nice evening but could be Oh so better Service: 3 Location: 4"

"I always choose Turkish cuisine for both takeout and dining in at this restaurant. The food is consistently delicious. Some of the staff can come across as abrupt, as no one checks in to see how everything is or offers more drinks. During my most recent visit with my husband, we only ordered two main dishes and two drinks, yet our bill totaled over £40 due to a £4.80 service charge. This experience has made me reconsider where I choose to eat in the future. It's disappointing to feel like we were being taken advantage of in this way."

"We ate at lunch today and were handed a menu with no mention of the lunch offer , which included a glass of wine beer soft drink and coffee . As we haven’t been for a while we assumed they no longer did the offer . The food was all good , 3 pizzas and the Agnolotti pasta dish was really tasty . We also had 3 soft drinks and a beer . When paying our bill we noticed an extra charge which we queried and were told one of the items had a surcharge for the lunch offer menu ! . Given we knew nothing about this offer it didn’t make sense . On enquiring further we were told some of our soft drinks weren’t included and it meant we didn’t qualify for the offer , so we are very confused as to how could we incur a surcharge . At no point was any of this explained to us before , or at the time of ordering as we would have been more than happy to have had a drink that was included in the offer . The waiting staff apologized and said we should have been told and I agree . If you are going to do a lunchtime offer you need to make it clear what’s included , both on the menu and at the time of ordering , as we left feeling we had overpaid for what we received and it will make us think twice about returning."

"If I could give this no stars I would! Utterly appalled by the customer service in this pub. I used to work in food retail and as far as I was aware the customer is always right! Well apparently in this pub they are not. My friend ordered good old bangers and mash. What she did not expect with it was a good old hair. We was told that they could get her a new one or a refund I said a refund because quite frankly the fact that they thought we would eat here. Got a refund after the rude waitress had accused us of it being our hair. Safe to say I will never eat here again"

"Visited on a Wednesday evening as a family, this being my first visit to a Miller Carter. Restaurant itself was pleasant and welcoming, all staff we engaged with were extremely friendly and accommodating too. For me the slight let down was the food temperature. Starters were good and hot, no complaints there at all. The 4 steaks we ordered were all very well cooked (to order) but the onion loaf, was lukewarm at best and halloumi fries were cold. Puddings were all good too. The food tasted good but for the price you pay here I’d expect all my food to be hot, not lukewarm or cold. Maybe we just caught them on a bad night ??"

"We booked this establishment back in September, after experiencing a superb meal. Little did we know that the property was to change hands even though a £10 non refundable deposit per person had to be paid in advance and menus chosen. There had been no communication by the new owners explaining the situation therefore, we had no reason to believe anything had changed. On the night I started to get concerned when there was only 1 or 2 persons in the restaurant section. However we all entered were greeted and shown to the table. To begin with, we had to ask if the music coming from a speaker, being directly beside our table could be turned down (unable to converse or hear it was so loud). This took 3 requests. All dining had been previously booked (with the previous owners) therefore we expected to get what we ordered. When the starters arrived, one of our party who ordered soup received a third of a small bowl full. This was returned and a full bowl was received. The prawn and avocado cocktail arrived minus any avocado whatsoever. The main courses xmas dinner turkey or pork loins arrived. Well, eack turkey dinner had a variety of vegetables some had sprouts others didn't. Some had one sort of cabbage others had different. The meat was dry however the roast potatoes were passable. The two having pork loins had the meat on a large pile of mustard mash AS WELL AS roast potatoes. The meat I was advised, was tough and unpleasant and left. The deserts were a joke. Xmas puddings were circular and about 2 wide and half to three quarters of an inch deep. Some of the guests had theoretically black forest cheesecake which was the smallest wedge I have ever seen, about 2 and half inches long by and inch wide and less than an inch deep. There was no sign of any black forest interest at all. I wouldn't advise anyone to eat here in any way, waste of money. On top of which this trip cost us £60 by taxi. This would have been worth it with the previous owners, but not now."
