"If this were our first visit we wouldn’t go back….5.45pm, maybe 6 tables taken. Unfriendly, inattentive bar person needed telling several times what our two drinks were. Asked to eat to which the reply was “have you booked”…as we had not she went off to “look” for a table (although we could see maybe 10/12 from where we stood. Allowed us a table in the middle of three occupied tables that appearing to contain somewhat inebriated family, arguing and swearing amongst themselves. We went outside as all the tables were free, despite it being overcast and slightly windy it was better ! Went back and ordered food, sold up by bar person to a Surf n’Turf and partner ordered Sea Bass.Went back outside to enjoy drinks. Waitress came out and told us no Sea Bass , second choice Lasagna, no Lasagna, ended up choosing Fish n’Chips. Bar person then came out and said that they didn’t do Surf n’Turf anymore. At this point we nearly gave up. Food came out reasonably promptly. Waitress disappeared for several minutes before returning with a caddy of condiments and knifes and forks which was just plonked on the table.(and needed a damn good clean…euck! Both chips (chunky) looked delicious, but sadly The Plough seems to have gone the way of many now, chips no doubt frozen, probably some colouring and if the contents ARE all potato I would be most surprised we’re just mushy pap.Awful. Rump steak was tough, peas were like bullets. The food and service used to be sooooo much better. Staff need some clues on how to actually make customers welcome.Pub needs to claw back some of its old ways. If it needs to charge a bit more then it should , people are happy to pay a bit more for quality food and service, as serving this food in this way certainly would make us seriously think about coming back.Real shame."

"I 've had very good food and service here before autumn 2022 so was surprised and disappointed after returning with a friend yesterday. The mozzarella and basil toasted sandwich sounded inviting, but the reality was underwhelming. Hardly any mozzarella, dry, no basil whatsoever, a thin slice of tomato who knows, perhaps I was mistakenly served a child 's portion. It was on such a small plate that the accompanying undressed salad leaves and few crisps fell off as soon as you tried to cut into the sandwich. Oh yes, and I wasn 't given a knife, just a fork, so when I went up to the counter about it I was told abruptly they don 't give out knives ! Though my friend, who 'd ordered a scone, had been given a knife! What 's that about? Friend said her cheese scone tasted sweet and left half of it. She said that last year she 'd had accompanying chutney, but not this time. When she mentioned the sweetness of the scone the reply was 'We 'll keep an eye on it. ' Whatever that means. The coffee I had was about half the size of what I had last year. It wasn 't at all busy when we were there, but the 3 people serving were mainly wandering around doing who knows what, totally not interested in engaging with us and did not even come up to the table to ask if everything was OK. Perhaps because they knew in advance it wasn 't . Very lazy attitude. They have no competition up there so perhaps they feel they don 't have to try anymore. Well, they 've now lost two local customers and I shan 't be going back with a group of friends as previously planned. The only positive is that the display of cakes looked the same as before, but I didn 't see what the portion sizes were, so cannot comment on that. If you 're feeling hungry I suggest you eat something before you go there."

"Staying at the Luttrell Arms for two nights and we had a 3 course meal from Psalter’s Restaurant on the first night. Choosing a starter was a challenge. My partner and I do not like fish leaving us with one dish available to us, Cauliflower and Parsnip soup. The soup came out piping hot however, we were unaware that it would have a spicy nature to it causing a surprise. The menu mentioned it would be served with bread and butter however, this never came. Moving on to the main course, again we sat down at 7:00pm and the restaurant had already sold out of multiple options on the menu meaning that again, if you did not like fish then there were little options left. Steak, chicken and a burger was all that was available. We both ordered the Gourmet Burger. When they came you could see that the buns were clearly over toasted and came out burnt, meaning it left a charcoal taste in your mouth after the first bite. The rest of the burger was extremely dry, no sauces were offered to compensate the dryness. Even though my partner and I ordered the same meal, my burger came with 4 slices of gherkin and hers came with 1 slice of gherkin meaning that care was clearly not taken when putting the burgers together. When dessert came, it was presented very well. The chocolate curl on it, had little taste but the ice cream and biscuit was very nice. The next morning we sat down for breakfast at 9:10am. Ordering off of the menu again, there was no option to select certain items off the menu. My partner and I wanted some apple juice from the cold buffet. When we sat back down at the table and took a taste, the apple juice was sour and clearly out of date with bits floating in the juice. Moving on to the food, my partner did not want a cooked breakfast so went for the cold buffet, selecting a croissant and toast, both were nice. I ordered a full English, with scrambled eggs. When it came out I can only say I was disappointed. The first thing I noticed was that I had 3 pieces of bacon but not one rasher, I had 3 pieces of offcuts bacon. I had one sausage that when bitten into broke up and was very dry, just like the burger the previous evening. The black pudding had a long hair within it meaning it was not very appealing. The beans and eggs were the only hot things on my plate, showing that the food had been clearly sat under a hot plate or something and that the eggs and beans were either microwaved or cooked just before being brought out. I ordered tea to have with my breakfast and again I was disappointed as it was not hot, luke warm at best. Throughout dinner and breakfast, flies were an issue. People throughout the restaurant could be seen flapping them away all evening and morning and they were really off putting during meal times. My partner and I, overall were disappointed with the food at Psalter’s and will most likely not be returning to eat there again."

"The Lorna Doone Hotel offers restaurant meals to those who are not staying at the hotel. I had seen the menu many times and thought the description of the dishes very temptingt but was unsure whether it was a dog friendly restaurant, then one evening...I spoke with the owners who confirmed that they accepted well behaved dogs in the restaurant. Having booked a table (highly recommended and probably absolutely necessary at the moment to ensure a table) when I arrived, albeit without our hound who we decided to leave at home as it was a wet evening, we had a very warm welcome. The food choices for starters and main course were varied and it was difficult to choose as they all sounded tempting. The soup which was obviously home made was delicious and the lamb three ways lived up to it's recommendation. My wife had the smoked sea food platter and chicken supreme which again was (apparently) lovely. Best meal she has had in ages which doesn't say a lot about my cooking!! The sweet choice to finish was also excellent. I have eaten at some fine restaurants including some not so far from Porlock and the food here is easily on a par. Apparently the food is locally sourced as much as possible and has that lovely fresh taste. From start to finish I can not fault our evening. The food, presentation, service and general ambiance was great. My compliments to Mel and Paul for a lovely evening. I am looking forward to seeing you again I'm the not too distant future."
