"I found the service poor and the food pricey. I arrived yesterday 23 October with three cycling friends; I had a coffee and cinnamon whirl £8.44. When the waitress tended our table I asked what the odd 44p was all about as it was an odd amount and she told me it was for the discretionary service charge and she went on to tell me that there was a sign up that this was charged. All four of us failed to see any sign and would have declined such a charge given the choice as the prices are so expensive anyway it would be ridiculous to add on a service charge. The normal method I have seen is when paying an option is given to add a service charge but this did not happen. I have no idea how much the service charge is but we were not offered a refund even after one of us protested that this was very unfair. We did not press the issue but I did note that when we left and I gave my customary goodbye this fell on deaf ears. I should also add that my cinnamon whirl was heated and yet I prefer tham cold but was not given an option so this too was very bad"

First visit to the new cafe and we were very impressed.. good cappuccino and excellent pastries along with a very mellow ambience made it a great experience.. a bacon roll would have been nice, though!

Came here to see the new refurbished cafe for lunch. So disappointing with pedestrian food and overcharging £5 for a scone! Ridiculous! Tables not being cleaned and dishes left so we had to move them. Highly disappointing.

We popped in for lunch, bright , clean and very friendly atmosphere, they also have a lift which my friend used, the menu was small for lunch but with good foot, we tried several wines from the flight menu, which is a great idea , The food was just amazing and beautifully presented, it’s a must.

Fantastic location for lunch however I think 2 courses or 3 courses are a better option than the current menu options . For example Chicken Caesar salad is a main dish not a starter , what happens your eating that as a starter and your partner wants a burger so your eating separately as his is classed as a main? . I would change this menu's set up if it was my restaurant. The customer care was excellent and the setting perfect. Ver carta

Really love this place, it has a magical setting with consistently helpful service from its super team. But disappointed by the very limited menu of sharing platters this time. I’d rung ahead to check if we should book was told then the menu was smaller but still had a number of choices. Not the case. Happy to be flexible Bolney is going through change right now but maybe offer a couple more options which are more filling and better value?

We visited a couple of months ago for a very enjoyable wine cheese tasting tour. We noticed the beautiful cafe terrace overlooking the vines and came back today for a tasty brunch. Despite the poor weather and having to sit indoors we weren’t at all disappointed. We were greeted by a very friendly member of staff the moment we approached the entrance, the service was great and friendly throughout, right through until you leave via the shop (picking up some tasty treats! . Expensive brunch but worth it.

My second visit to this outstanding cafe. The veggie full English was fantastic, a beautifully cooked, generously proportioned plate of hot food. A special shout-out for the serving team that balances friendliness with efficiency. As before, we also enjoyed views of the vineyard and several cups of tasty coffee. Only gripe was the unexplained noise during part of our visit, it was very loud (building works apparently). Maybe put a simple printed explanation on each table to explain and gently apologise for any disruptions? Ver carta

We went to the ground floor cafe. We had 2 toasties, one cheese and tomato and the other Brie and bacon. Service charge £2.25 was added which I only noticed after the shock of seeing the toasties were £9 each. Too late, I had already paid. But I thought they should be good. Alas no. The cheese and tomato were negligible in a heavily flattened wholemeal toast which was less than 1cm thick. It was like a biscuit. The Brie and bacon was better with some cheese oozing out but not much. A few dry leaves (no dressing) were added. I had to get our own cutlery etc which made a joke of the service charge. Sorry but we won't go back at £20.25 for 2 poor toasties (no coffee)

I love this restaurant. My son held his sons blessing here and the food and staff are always excellent. I have visited many times for brunch and lunch so I choose it to hole a birthday lunch. We booked ahead and requested a nice table. It was the hottest day of the year and was actually disappointed with our table. The main thing that spoilt the lunch was the intense heat. One member of the party has MS and extreme heat is not good for her. No one can help the weather but there was obviously air con in the restaurant but it was not switched on. The air con was on in the cafe below? I do understand that the windows were open but maybe close all but one. The heat spoilt the lunch. Also I have...

"We go to Gravetye 3 or 4 times a year if we can and have been going for many many years over the tenures of several owners. It 's always a complete joy, and the current owner has done a fabulous job of getting the right people in, both inside and out. Tom Coward, the Head Gardener (ex. Dixter) has a vision and a long term plan that make continual visits over an extended period a joy every time we visit we are surprised by the continual changes we learn so much and the garden staff are super helpful and willing to discuss what they 're up to and why. The amazing oval massive kitchen garden that supplies the hotel is a source of wonderment and not to be missed. A visual and culinary feast. We 've never stayed there as we live reasonably close, but have eaten in both the old and new dining rooms many times. The new dining room sits harmoniously between the wings of the manor and although a very modern glass and steel construction, the inclusion of a fabulous antique (and uneven) parquet floor (ex. some french chateau) softens the feel and acoustics, making the room almost intimate. The floor to ceiling windows bring you right into the garden, even in the foulest of weather it 's a triumph of design. Then there 's the food. Apart from the presentation, which is exquisite, the flavours and textures always bring a broad grin, however grumpy I am! This is absolutely first rate British cuisine; the kitchen under Head Chef George Blogg is to be commended, as are the garden staff producing the freshest of produce. I occasionally try to photograph the plates, but invariably find I 've forgotten that rather crass move and have just launched in! Must also mention the front of house staff. Perfectly presented and mannered, they know exactly the boundary between staff and guest and make you feel completely comfortable and relaxed there is nothing stuffy or obsequious about Gravetye everything is pitched just spot on and nothing is too much trouble. We were there today for a birthday treat, but will be back again soon for a post family wedding get together. Cannot recommend too highly just an excellent few hours, whatever the weather. Walkability: Lots of paths. The lower areas are easy for those with limited mobility, however it might be tricky to get up to the kitchen garden if you 're not great on your feet. Food drinks: See my review."
