"We first visited the Chives on the Tuesday for a light lunch, I explained to staff the my wife had a stomach disorder to which the staff were very helpful and understanding and ended up having Two lovely meals which were good value for money, so we decided to book for the Thursday evening, Sadly Thursday evening was a totally different experience beyond belief, arrived got a nice table, this should of been a celebration but upsetting for us both is an understatement, again explained about my wifes stomach disorder, the starters were fine, the mains arrived and my wifes meal consisted of a salad minus Tomatos and Onions as requested, Sweet potato firs and a dressed Crab, my wife had just started her meal and on eating her crab pulled out a long elastic type hollow tube which she placed onto a napkin and discreetly took a waitress to one side away from customers and showed her what she had found, the waitress took it to the chef and the chef told her he had never seen anything like it before, my wife came back to the table and sat down but she could not eat her meal. The waitress asked would my wife like something else to which she replied some more sweet potato fries thank you. The manager then arrived at the resturant and imformed my wife and I that this was just part of the Crab, she was abrupt and rude but we decided to carry on with our evening. After the meal we asked for the bill to see we were charged full price £22) for a meal my wife did not eat, the manager came over a we both queried the bill, she was extremly rude and loud so all customers could hear that there was nothing wrong with the crab and that the chefs had informed her it was part of the crab. My wife informed her what the waitress had told her what the chef had said she went very quiet and stormed off. At no point did she apologise for her behaviour but they did eventually take the price of the crab meal off of our bill. My wife has been very unwell and this caused her great upset, not only by the way the manager spoke to her but also the volume of her voice and to do this in front of a packed and close table resturant."

The staff was very welcoming. We ordered coffee and toasted tea cakes since it was late in the day. However, we will definitely be returning to try their dinner menu. The restaurant was very clean and the food looked delicious.

This is a classy bistro where we had delicious feta-based ciapaninis for a late lunch. (We weren't aware of this light very fresh-tasting bread, being a cross between ciabatta and panini). The quality of our food was excellent and the service very good indeed. We would like to live nearer so we could visit for dinner!

We visited the restaurant without a reservation and were greeted warmly by the servers. We were seated promptly and enjoyed observing the two chefs working calmly in the kitchen. The starters and main courses were delicious, and we left feeling very satisfied. It was definitely the best meal we had during our week in the area.

The food at this restaurant was excellent. However, we called to make a reservation on Saturday for the following day and were only able to secure a table for 6:45, despite requesting 7:30. The restaurant was nearly empty by 7:30 and still empty when we left at 8:30. We suspect the staff planned to close at 9pm, which is why they couldn't offer a later reservation. Additionally, our coffee arrived before our dessert, and when we mentioned this, we felt awkward. Despite these issues, the food and atmosphere were great and we would consider returning in the future. Ver carta

Visited today at lunchtime to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Probably not eaten here since before the pandemic. Had reserved a table which we were given a choice of as the restaurant wasn’t busy, which meant that the two of us sat at a table that could have accommodated 4. Food, Carbonara and Duck Pasta was good, with side O’Donoghue Cheese Garlic Bread. Unfortunately there were a couple of young, and one not so young men at the bar discussing betting on the horses. They were joined by a few young Neanderthal youths whose voices got louder the more they drank. More like a pub than a restaurant. Would go back, but not during a weekend lunchtime when hopefully these young men might be at work.

Arrived 5.15 (need to book! Sunday pm to be greeted within seconds and led through a busy and full restaurant to our set and spotless table for two with a real rose in a glass. Roasts and steaks etc. have now been added to what used to be a mainly Italian menu. Still had their pasta dishes though along with a bottle of Merlot from the Vallee Central Chile. I 've been very close to the hospitality scene for 60 years now and with the table having a good view of the kitchen I watched the chefs and the two waitresses getting through many dishes hardly needing to speak to each other. No screams of service or chef . So much so a pleasure to watch that I got ticked off for paying more attention to...

"We had pre-booked a table for 6 people to have lunch at 2:15pm. We arrived on time and were shown to the table, which had only been set for 4 people which meant we had to pull a further 2 chairs up to the table, and had to request a wine list. We ordered a round of drinks for the table which took c. 15 minutes to arrive. We were waiting a considerable amount of time for a food menu. Eventually we called a waiter over to order some food and were told that the kitchen we no longer serving, despite having booked a table for lunch and not being warned of the kitchen closing time. The staff told us to be quick in ordering however took a further 10 minutes to come and take the order. The food eventually came and the waitress didn 't even put the food at the correct place, she merely put them on the table for us to distribute accordingly. When the bill eventually came, we politely requested the *optional service charge was removed from the bill as we did not feel that we had received adequate service to warrant a tip, to which the manager began shouting that it as shocking that we wanted to rightfully remove the tip. He went on to say that the kitchen staff had stayed over time to prepare our food. My question to the owner is this... if your chefs are unwilling to work over their hours, why are you offering a reservation close to closing time whilst your staff are incapable of processing the orders to the kitchens in the correct timescale and working hours. If we were told that the kitchen were closing soon, we would have cooperated with the staff to help them work to their time scales."
