the food is good, but the waiter was little bit to busy, always running to other tables, never really stopped... and nothing special for birthday persons

This restaurant is in a building which is built in the 14th century. It has a wonderful athmosphere, good food, a "Biergarten" (beer garden) close to a forest.

My wife and I spent four day is the city of Essen in May. We had bin invited by friends to go to dinner at the restaurant. The first impression was like being in an old German farmhouse rustic but very cozy and nice .We all ordered differed food and where amazed that the food was served together for eight people at the same time. All the dishes where exceptionaly well prepared and tasted wonderful, which made us come back for the next thee days.

Thoroughly enjoyable evening in an historical building with a good atmosphere. Tables well spaced so that you don't feel crowded at all. Staff very helpful with their recommendations for both food and drink and background details of the offerings. Both food and wines good and good value for money. Portions a good size. Would happily go there again.The only problem is that it was very difficult to find - the road works meant that several wrong turns ensued before we found the restaurant!

A warmish evening is all you need and you can sit outside. The hedges separating the tables provide a more private area if you want to avoid the Biergarten itself. The food was fine. It is not Michelin standard but it does not claim to be. We had asparagus - as this was the season – with steak and the quality of the food was good. Service was quick, efficient and friendly and the price was reasonable. All this made for a pleasant evening. It looked cosy inside but this was an evening for al fresco dining.

Another trip to Essen and the chance to eat at a recommended restaurant. The meals were well served, well presented and most of all delicious. Major problem was choice, watching other customers meals go past did give an idea but when it came to choice its was a tricky one. So decided to have the French Onion soup topped with croutons au gratin. That just heightened the taste bud kicking in for the baked rump steak with an onion and mustard crust. Cooked so as the meat cut to reveal a perfect colour of pink. A nicety was having menus in English for us not so fluent German speakers.One final thing the meat was washed down with good beer!Check out the website!

My extended family met at this restaurant in Essen early August 2015. There were about a dozen of us, ranging from the "old" down to our 3 year old. The food is typical traditional German food.The atmosphere is very nice - it's open space so you can see everyone. You can also sit outside and enjoy the view, which includes a trail that people seem to take with their dogs. Our son, who was bored after his dinner, wanted to walk around outside, so we found ourselves walking the trail and saying hi to others who were out walking. It was nice, actually. There is a also a koi pond on the premises.Our waiter spoke English, which was very helpful for me as the only adult in the group who didn't spea...

We went for dinner at this restaurant, courtesy of our German hosts after day 2 of a 3-day exhibition at Messe Essen. It's a €20 taxi ride from central Essen, and has plenty of parking.The inside ambience is very good, and it's even possible to eat outside in winter! The food is very good, being a range of soups, cold and hot starters, steaks, schnitzels, vegetables and fish, all tasty and freshly prepared. The food isn't Michelin star, but then it doesn't pretend to be. There is a reasonably priced wine list which complements the food without escalating the bill.
