The Peacock - Carta

Before writing my article for a newspaper, I was advised to get a look behind the scenes at The Peacock in Bakewell.

Very expensive for what you get (pretty standard pub fare) but think that is down to being in a fairly tourist trappy area.

A location like this deserves so much more pride from the team avoid at all costs unless you want to be tested like an annoyance. Ver carta

We checked out all the pubs in Bakewell. For food, this was the best for pub fare. Others were limited. One did not have the two things we ordered.

Stayed several nights here. Well situated in town and for nearby sights. Comfortable accommodation and good food. Friendly and helpful staff who went above and beyond.

Casual Monday night, just dropped in. Good beer, excellent service, excellent food. Top quality ingredients, gammon was superb. Friendly attentive staff. Can't recommend enough. Busy on a Monday night says it all, well worth a visit. Ver carta

This is a very average pub with equally average food and service. I felt that we were somewhat of an inconvenience. I would definitely not return here when there are other much better pubs serving substantially better food for a similar price.

Looks promising from the outside and has a courtyard beer garden. Primarily a food pub, all the tables were marked reserved. Intended to sit outside anyway but found that half the tables were marked for dining only ignored the signs as few people were sat outside but had to go inside due to rain. The back room is painted dark grey and is quite depressing, found a table but not a great atmosphere so thought we could finish our pints in the front bar. Told by staff to go back in the room if we were just drinking . Won 't be coming back, I hate pubs that treat drinkers like second class citizens. Oh and £16.95 for a **** ploughman 's is taking yhe ****.

Unfortunately I have to echo what other reviewers have said. The barman that served us (other reviews seem to say he might be the landlord! was very rude, unwelcoming and reacted to any questions with disdain. We asked for a bowl of chips with our drinks and he barked that the kitchen was closed. This was about 7:40 on a Tuesday night. Seemed very early but we said ok could we have some crisps. Had to ask several times to actually get them. Similarly unpleasant interaction on buying second round of drinks. This used to be a lovely pub with great food. Unfortunately it has a very poor atmosphere now and perfectly polite and friendly customers are treated with disdain. Vote with with your feet... Ver carta
