"Most amazing place. My first experience with this place was over 20 years ago when my family was stationed here with the military. Jump to 2017 when my partner told me we would be coming to Germany to revisit this town. Well the only thing I had on my mind was the Greek Restaurant (I couldn 't remember the name. When we showed up one of the staff in formed me that the original had burned down and the new location was built. Well that night was my first experience dinning here again since a child, an WOW the staff along with the meals were amazing. Fast forward to this evening. 11/24/19 Again we are back the only difference is we brought my mother. Again I can 't express how amazing this place is. We didn 't have a reservation nor did we call to check if they could even seat us. We walk in are greeted with such a warm welcome by the man behind the bar. Then this lovely young lady ask 's how many of us and finds a place for us. We ordered a Gyro plate , the braised lamb shank with eggplant and the musacka plate. All of it was great. The atmosphere perfect. I hope and pray that I will be able to enjoy this place again in my life time."

really a delicious smell in this small beaten nest Idar-Obersteins. contempt, great! eat, really good! atmosphere, fitting! no staring because the environment was too fast empty and the parking place is really small.

I love this place. Had a candle light dinner w/ live flowers (where can you find that these days? We even got free shots in the beginning of the meal. And ended w/ a free fruity drink. Good G good. Clean place. Good people. We got there at the perfect time, bc as soon. As our food came, place was packed. They serve big servings too.

we had gotten a table on the late Saturday evening with people.What immediately noticed was that the restaurant, despite corona, was very well visited and accordingly was the acoustic. all very loud, as in a railway station hall.To be able to order the drinks, we had to report to us, after half an hour unsuccessful, at the waiter time, which then promptly also received the food order. the restaurant in general was ok, but nothing extraordinary. the place looks pretty and the workers are really friendly, but eating itself was just ok and the prices are pretty high. I ordered the lammsteak with garlic sauce and french fries. the flesh was really good, the potatoes were good and the sauce did not taste like everything. for appetizers we ordered garlic bread (which was ok) and fried cheese (which was quite bad and it cost for small pieces). Overall, it was nice to eat something else, but didn't dare me. I have eaten better for a lower price

Stopped here by chance since we passed by it on our way back home. It is a beautiful restaurant with a picturesque view behind it. The restaurant is very busy, which is always a good sign. The staff is friendly, but keep in mind they are trying to serve everyone, so your order may take longer. We ordered a variety of dishes because we were starving. Ordered the stuff mushrooms, over baked shrimp, tatziki, pork soluvaki, and pita bread. Everything came out piping hit and delicious. The portions are very generous. We had to take the rest with us. Overall, we had a great meal and would definitely come back again.

"The wine restaurant “Zum alte Goten” is located in the oldest half-timbered house near the town, dates back to 1392. The house served for centuries as a residential house and was only restored by the operator pair with a lot of attention to detail and remodelled to the restaurant. There are two guest rooms, both original with a lot of work and all kinds of decoration, tables and seating do not fit into the ensemble. Very original the wine room of the “old Goten”, which seems to be driven into the back of the rock wall of the workshop. Here you will find some good drops of various excellent local wineries. The boss is a trained and tested culture and wine ambassador at the close and is happy to advise you on the selection. Food: The kitchen offers regional “reinterpreted” in seasonal change. What should not be missing for me is the piece of meat fried above the open fire, the “Obersteiner” spit roast. The spirits are divorced over the meats, whether pig, beef or lamb is “original”. The recipe that usually approx. 4 to 6 cm thick meat batches make “Obersteiner”, is almost everywhere in Idar Oberstein: depending on whether cow, pig or lamb, whether high rib or fillet, the meat is marinated with pepper, salt and onions for several hours and then grilled over open fire on beech or oak. My companions, among them the well-known restaurant critic “PetraIO”, had homemade noodles with Ratatouille ?€ and the peasant salad with fresh leaf salads, roast potatoes and bacon at €9.90. I chose the “Obersteiner” from Entrecôte to €19.90. To this end, for women, a wine-growing wine from the winery Zehmer Bad Kreuznach at 3,50 € in advance and as a wine recommendation a well-tempered Grauburgunder from the winery Sinß from Windesheim at 4,20 €. I was content with two soft beers because I was classified as a chauffeur. Rating: There was nothing to complain about both dishes of my companions and the wine recommendation. But my "Obersteiner" didn't rip me off the stool. I had chosen for the entrecôte, I was looking forward to a nice batch of meat from the high rib and was amazed, one only approx. 2cm thick disc, also not just oversized, estimated to get 220 to 250gr , served. The meat, finely marbled with small fat rim and beautiful fat eye was qualitatively fine, but not evenly roasted to the point and thus cut and bite sometimes tenderly solid as well as dry and juicy alternating, a point only in the middle. Very well seasoned and with the smoke aromas of the open beech fire it tasted perfectly. Supplemental salad and foil potatoes as well as garlic dip were fine, spicy radish salad was added on request – without calculation. Service The service was very friendly, the operator's pair has solicited us to the table and proudly answered questions about the traditional factory house, the wine range of the wine cellar and also about the history of the spit roast. Drinks and food came after a pleasant waiting period."
